Loved Blue Peter i remember when they used to light the candles at the begining of advent Was buzzing when they sparked the last one. It was Christmas. John Noakes was amazing.
As a child growing up in the 1970s Blue Peter was must viewing, especially the Christmas episodes. John Noakes was a superb presenter. I loved also watching him & Shep in his series, Go With Noakes. And when later in life I found out he was ill then passed away a little piece of my childhood went too. Sad day. Great man. 😐
John was a very relaxing and feel-good factor person. I loved his daredevil abilities. I bet it was a lot more stressful than it appeared. He's an icon to a lot of people from that area including me. And thank you for your comment.
John Noakes was fearless as Peter Purvis said. I never forgot him climbing Nelsons Coloum without ropes or any safety harness. He was a brave man. I also loved to hear him laugh as he had such a hearty laugh. He loved his dog Shep. Blue Peter was one of the best TV shows ever and John was a very big part of that show. He has left us all with fond memories.
John Noakes was a great bloke, great sense of humour, courageous and all children brought up in that era of Blue Peter will always remember him with affection and a pining for those more simple, fun and gentler days.
DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES I grew up watching Blue Peter. People can tell you your age when you tell them who you grew up watching as presenters on Blue Peter. My three were John Noakes, Peter Pervis and Valerie Singleton. So yes I am in my late 50s, I can remember Petra and Shep bring introduced on to the show. Living in accomation where I could not have pets especially a dog I grew up with those two dogs and was broken hearted when each of them passed on. I was equally heartbroken when I learned of her death of John "Get Down Shep" Noakes. May he rest in eternal peace with Shep.
Hi Elizabeth it was a lovely time to watch blue. Peter and it was very sad with his Alzheimer's but we've got to remember the good times. Thank you for the comment
John Noakes and his dog, Shep, made the perfect duo. I remember well John being unable to talk about the death of his beloved dog due to being so emotional. They were both part of my childhood and really are sorely missed. Rest in Peace John Noaks and Shep. Thanks too for making this fantastic film.
My childhood right there Blue Peter, loved John and Shep. That elephant clip I remember like yesterday and how to make an advent countdown decoration out of wire coat hangers!
John Noakes was a perfect gentleman, Blue Peter was a great programme just what kids needed after school. Everyone equates the baby elephant and John weeing everywhere, so funny! Sad demise for him and his family ❤
Hi Allen Mr Noakes what a hero i spent with three friends many hours going round my estate collecting milk bottle tops sporks and foons stamps anything for blue peter appeals sadly im the only friend left out the four musketeers. looking forward to the next live chat best wishes.
What a great, fearless man. He is missed by many who grew up through that era. So is Shep! Anyone that loves dogs is always a hero to me! R.I.P. John. 🕊
Ahhh Alan you presented that film with lots of fun.. Just like John would have on blue Peter 🤣🤣 Happy childhood memories 4 me 🤩👌Sticky back plastic/ washing up fairy bottles ect. 😆😆 great fun. Never got a blue Peter badge though 🤣🤩😊 Thanks Alan.. 👌💞 RIP JOHN. X

Well he was great and he gave me much pleasure as a young boy, I am pleased for him he did not have to suffer the pandemic and the crazy world we live in today. He lived a good worthwhile life not a stupid one.
I had a gold Blue Peter Badge. Some utter 'hole stole it off my blazer lapel from the changing rooms while I was out on the field. It's probably in someone's drawer now, 50 years later.
Hello Angela, thank you for the lovely comments and I'm thanking all my subscribers today. I have just gone over the thousand which is lovely I hope you enjoy some of my future videos. Regards, Alan
Great video, i remember the elephant stepping on his foot, made me laugh. Nice to find out some of his background, clever guy. and like you said balls of steel
Hi James, nice to see you. I can hardly watch him going up Nelson's column without any harness. But you know what? I think he was quick on the comedy because I heard somewhere recently. The elephant didn't stand on his foot but he improvised like he did with a kangaroo ones. He was a clever guy and thank you for the nice comment Alan
Hello, Sue, I tried my best. It was nice that a relative of his pasta commented as well. They enjoyed it so that's a good seal of approval.Thank you for the comment. Alan

I tell you what. Nowadays you have people such as Tom Cruise doing his own stunts and getting paid an absolute fortune for it. Yet here was John back in the 60's and 70's doing crazy things just for the entertainment of young people on a BBC TV show. (I'm sure adults watched it too. My mum did). And I bet he was paid peanuts. Of all the people who have hosted Blue Peter over the years, John stands out for me. He was the only reason I watched it when I was a kid to be honest. He had a way about him that was great viewing. And anyone who remembers him will never forget his catchphrase. "get down shep". Great video as ever. Nice one! 👍
That was a very sad end to his life. I never knew anything about John, but he was my favorite presenter. I remember being sad when he left. Thanks for a very interesting and informative video. xx

I remember Peter once driving a vehicle through a lorry over ramps but I can't think of anything else, but when John climbed Nelson's column over the top without any safety, that was the Pinnacle for me. Thank you for your support. Alan
I’m a Halifax born lad and John was the first famous person from the town that I knew of. It was just a small Pennine town with little of note to me. I watched Blue Peter with great pride in the 60s and 70s. I’d left home long before he left the show, so I knew little about the rest of his tv career. I’ve always remembered him and Shep with fondness. I knew nothing about his tribulations with Biddy Baxter and her iron rule. I’m not from Rishworth, but knew of the area, of course. How come you didn’t show us his last resting place in Mallorca? It’s a beautiful island and you’d have had a nice break into the bargain!
I live in a beautiful seaside town in the north west of Ireland called Portstewart. My claim to fame is that one beautiful afternoon when i was only about 12 i was walking my little terrier Kelly along the top promenade of our main street ( there was a bottom promenade also which ran beside but about 15 feet lower than the top one) now Kelly, although loved by my family, was a bit of a terror and hated other dogs, and as i walked him (keeping in mind those days no one really had a dog on a lead) he took off like a rocket, down the steps to the lower promenade. I could hear dogs fighting and ran over to look down. There i saw a crowd of people who had obviously been walking along when my dog decided to fight with theirs. Now Kelly was a tiny little thing and i could see that the dog he was challenging was a border collie and by this stage both dogs had separated and neither were injured, but thats when i noticed John Noakes in the middle of the crowd! My dog had fought Shep! I was as mortified as only an almost teenager could be and being a fan of Blue Peter and Go with Noakes there was no way i was going to admit it was my dog who was the rogue in the scenario so i just walked off, very red faced and pretending i didnt know whos dog had been so naughty, and left Kelly to make his own way back to me, which of course he did looking very sheepish. i told that story but i dont think anyone believed me and i suppose it really isnt my claim to fame but Kellys! Kelly is gone over 40 years now but i still smile at the thought of the day he fought the famous Shep!!
Rhonda, you missed your chance. You could have drawn an enormous breath and then bellowed 'get down shep' but being serious wasn't a shame that you didn't get to meet say hello to him. I think because she were young I can imagine you would feel very embarrassed. But I bet he would have been fine about it. Dogs will be dogs 🤣😂 anyway, it's a nice story apart from the growling and barking. And at least you can say You met the two of them. John was a super guy. Me and my dad used to watch him and my dad always had made his guts. Take care of yourself. Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Alan i certainly missed my chance to utter the famous catchphrase !!!! He was a lovely chap and, made us all, of a certain age, laugh!

@@MotorHomeBeepBeep ..if you didn't know the quote or the story it must be very odd.. I think we are roughly the same age (56). Like most of our generation I enjoyed watching Blue Peter. Shame there isn't anywhere to visit. I want to visit Dandy Nicoles & leslie Graham but I can't find any details on the internet.
Hello Terry, no I don't but during the summer this year I spent 50% of my time and I'm enjoying it and finding it more natural. How is it for you and how long have you lived full time? Alan
W ell Terry four years says it all you must be loving it. I think we have slightly smaller roads in the UK possibly but people still do I watch a number of travel vlogs. Maybe you should start your own :-)

(toad said "..poop poop.." like an olde fashioned car or bicycle horn, ur 'beep beep' reminded me) it is a wonderful story though, with great characters and i realise now how much is in it.. even in just the line i mentioned!
anyway sorry for going on.. what i should've said, is, ..thankyou for sharing this video.. another lovely part of my childhood, blue peter and John noakes 🙂 x
John was the best kids presenter ever.
Hope they neverbuild on the school playingfield❤
I think we are roughly the same age (56). Like most of our generation I enjoyed watching Blue Peter. Shame there isn't anywhere to visit.
I want to visit Dandy Nicoles & leslie Graham but I can't find any details on the internet.
But you could visit the games field because that's where his ashes was scattered from the rocket. You're only a young one. I'm 66 😉
Love you Babe have a wonderful time 😘
Loved blue Peter back then the newer presenters weren't as good didn't have the charisma wished I was still back in those dids
Sorry its days
He was the best

Hello Terry, no I don't but during the summer this year I spent 50% of my time and I'm enjoying it and finding it more natural. How is it for you and how long have you lived full time? Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Hi Alan we have lived in our motorhome full time for over four years and have travelled up and down NZ.
W ell Terry four years says it all you must be loving it. I think we have slightly smaller roads in the UK possibly but people still do I watch a number of travel vlogs. Maybe you should start your own :-)
