  • The Gran Turismo series pitches itself as ‘The Real Driving Simulator’. In a world where sims like Assetto Corsa Competizione, Richard Burns Rally and rFactor 2 exist, the title ‘Real Driving Simulator’ is a bold claim, and one that doesn’t fully stand up to scrutiny.
However, Gran Turismo 7 is perhaps the most realistic-feeling and difficult GT game in the series yet, providing a challenge to experienced sim racers and casual fans alike.
Part of the realistic experience of a sim is setup tuning, and in GT7 this equates to buying upgraded parts from the Tuning Shop (Understeer Engineering) and fitting them to your car. This opens up a wealth of opportunities for GT7 players to tweak their cars’ setup, potentially making them quicker.
But different options can be changed on different cars, and one change on a front-engined, front-wheel-drive car (FF) may not work on a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive vehicle.
To help, we’ve devised a handy setup guide offering pointers on which upgrades to buy and the setup options they unlock. We’ll also cover which settings to change to make your car the fastest it can be!

This is one of the best GT7 setup video on YT. Cannot wait to see similar videos for FR like MX-5 and MR like 911.

In real-life, you'd never go over 3 degrees of negative camber, on any of the axles. Usually the forward-biased cars would have it on the front axle, and rear-biased on the rear one. But six is just... Onikyan

Okay so do you have an actual race car that you tune and race regularly. And is that where that info comes from or is it from your asshole. I think it's the latter of those two.

Actually, the game has the diff effects a little bit wrong.
In FFs, too high accel leads to understeer, because you overwhelm the outside tire. Too low accel leads to the inside tire picking up and spinning, reducing grip and acceleration, but most noticeably acceleration.
The decel should be tuned to help reduce one-wheel lockup under hard braking, but to not interfere with cornering ability.
(Think about how a spooled-100% locked-rear axle causes oversteer because there is no speed difference and tires must slip. A completely locked front axle means no speed difference between front tires, causing understeer.)
The things listed above are part of why helical differentials are popular in FFs-they can give the outside tire more torque than the inside, but do not "lock up" or "lock in" to a setting like clutch-type diffs do.
Also, on ARBs. (You kind of touched on this in the video a little bit) Soft front + comapratively very stiff rear is actually a very common and effective way to improve the car's handling. Think of the characteristic "three-wheeled cornering" old hot hatches would have. The setup reduces understeer by reducing the rear's tendency to keep going straight, allowing the car to rotate more effectively.
Apologies if this seems to be only criticising, the video was amazing, and I love that you are willing to give attention to FFs, especially when most people simply laugh and walk away.
-A Car Enthusiast Who Drives an Old FF
TLDR because I just realized that is really long:
The game has the diff stuff somewhat wrong, and the theory behind the ARBs is sound, but does not necessarily match real-life applications.

Best FF guide out. Just getting back into gt7 with 1.08 update. Drove an integra I had liked around 1.05 and without any changes the car got dusted on trial mountain. Uncharacteristic of a light bodied teggy. Appreciate the brush up on tuning 🙏🏾👌🏾💪🏾

Excellent video and as it turns out an appropriate car as I’m fine tuning my Civic touring car. Already happy with its standard settings but making tweeks here and there to help iron out any excessive understeer.

Great great guide - I'm currently finetuning a grid with 20 different cars for custom races. I tested all of them in time trial and managed to do laptimes within 1 second. When AI is driving the cars the difference is much much bigger. How can I tune them to fit the AI?

A little over 3 minutes into the video, and already there's a glaring issue. If you have a fully tuned racing suspension, do NOT lower your car all the way to the lowest setting. In most vehicles it will upset the balance/geometry drastically. Also, the diff in GT isn't exactly like real life, so your approach to tuning it is a little off (as others have stated). Good video overall, but a bit more R&D behind the scenes seems necessary.

    • @rossjmcgregor
      @rossjmcgregor 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

For this car and track combo, slamming the ride height worked perfectly fine and was faster than trying various other combinations of ride height. Also, for the diff tuning I went for what felt better and what was ultimately faster for me, so I get where you're coming from but the aim for me was to find what made the car feel better and go faster! BTW: I wrote this guide a while back but currently reminiscing about the good ol' days of Traxion :(
