@@yurilopes420 yeah would have been cool! So we all went home and packed a big bag for each of us, and came up with this idea: okay we start riding and every time there is a choice to make of like which direction to go, we take turns on who decides which we take, so we eventually have no idea where we are going! No maps, no cellphones. Just let the road take us wherever it goes… so we ended up zig zagging from southern California over to Arizona and Nevada and then through Tahoe to NorCal and back down. Just getting lost the whole time and seeing random areas we would have otherwise never come across in our lives! We had all been working a bunch and had just finished contracts so we had months off before next work and had a big chunk of savings(hence all the new bikes paid cash etc). @@fishzara Yes, it does. It doesn't consume a single drop only when the crankshaft RPM is high enough at a given speed for a certain gear. Try dropping to a low gear in a downhill and check the consumption.
@@fishzara ideally, yes, but usually when you’re in the highest gear you’re highway driving and have to maintain speed, I would say just try to keep your RPM’s as consistent as possible. Gently let off the gas when going down hills, and get back on the gas before you start to slow down at the bottom, etc. Highway driving is MUCH more efficient than city driving, because it uses less fuel to maintain a moving vehicle than to keep accelerating 2 tons from slow speeds. Another tip, keep your distance from cars ahead, (especially on highways) so if they slow down a lot or even hit the brakes, you’ll have a second or two where you can just coast to slow down, 9 times out of 10 they immediately speed back up. I Hate driving with people who tailgate and have to keep slamming their brakes/mashing the gas to follow traffic
I think the point of this mission is to train your foot or finger at controlling the throttle while at the same time rewarding you for having patience.
There are definatly ways to improve on this final time. Specificly on the hill that was the big problem. The key is to pass over that hill with as little speed as possable before gravity starts to increase your speed again. On the first lap u got down to 9mph so u were going 8mph faster then needed and on the 2nd lap 14mph = 13mph faster then needed. while it would be very hard to get that accurate but the closer to that 1 mph u get over that hill the more fuel u have to push at the end.
Theoretically, yes. In practice, no. To go 1mph would require him to downshift which would mean less speed for any given amount of RPM. You will want to stay in the highest gear possible using as little throttle as possible.

Would accelerating through the pitlane on the 2nd lap allow you to get more speed considering it's a straight through and by then you have nearly 0 fuel. Meaning you will roll further along the last part of the track. You seem to lose about 5-10kms going through the final corners before the finish line.

I did slightly over two laps by: Putting the fuel on 6 and started on 2nd and then got into 6th as soon as I could. Then all the time in 6th at full throttle for the flat and uphill and coasting on the rest. Only going down to second when I got under 30kmh on uphills and then to sixth as soon as I could And then at the end just before the fuel ends hold the clutch so it keeps rolling
This reminds me so much of speed running, optional play styles and time management, yet it’s almost the exact opposite of a speed run to see how slow you can go. Amazing.
this reminds me of a silly video: it's called "the 'speedrun' where Link stares at Rupees for hours". doing that makes link slide VERY slowly backwards, thus sliding through a closed door, thus helping set a new record for "winning with the fewest items collected".
Should have hammered the gas pedal on the last hill…hypermiling usually take advantage of downhills to add free low cost acceleration for coasting up the next hill. Love the persistence though…can’t wait for the game to finally download to try this
Kinda similar to a challenge I did with myself in beamng but the map was the Hirochi racetrack so I didn't last long after the first lap until I gave up
A good tip for this is to drive on higher gears whenever possible. The less work the engine does, the less fuel is spent. Coasting is a good idea too, especially in downhill segments. There is another mission like this, this time in a Bugatti Veyron, which iirc has even worse gas mileage. In that case, stick to 7th gear no matter what, and coast much more often, keeping the speed up to around 60-70 mph (or about 100 km/h).
I got it first go! A lot of playing with fuel map and rolling in 3rd and 4th. Sometimes tapped hand break which actually makes the car go in neutral. Hope this helps

If you can start/stop the engine manually & also shift into neutral (shift to neutral and stop the engine when going down hill), I think you can push this out pretty far.
Random FYI: When you're going uphill, every second there (even standing) will consume your fuel (or stamina on bike), that is to say, your goal should be to minimize TIME spent uphill.
game is getting us used to gasoline shortages. i'm going to be awesome at this mission, I already have to drive like this IRL in my Chevy Silverado. can't afford to go any faster
Did this mission first try... Kinda, game crashed when I first launched it, it was a bug in the earlier versions, but it's fixed now. It's honestly, pretty simple. You first switch to the highest gear, then, VERY DELICATELY, use the throttle to get around. Also, make sure you switch the fuel-power meter to full (6), as well, as to preserve the fuel. On the hills, DO NOT use the throttle, just coast... Then, on tighter turns do a wide turn as to not lose so much speed. That's it. 😉
@@Raxzor_DK try to conserve as much fuel as possible during sector 2 and get up the Hill in sector 1 fast. Then it should be pretty easy, u should prolly check someones yt video If you still cant beat it
Great challenge and well done. If we had train travel where the main distance is covered at the lowest possible altitude and the stations are at similar but higher altitude (say tops of urban hills and high rises), travel would be halla fast and the energy costs minimal. Effectively, you'd only be spending energy to be dragged up the finish hill for the amount of kinetic energy lost in the coast off the departure station. You'd want super slick aero like Japanese maglev trains, and, shocker: lots of ballast, I think. A light train would slow down from air drag a lot fast. Up to 5x faster conservatively. Longer distance, deeper tunnel, higher top speed.\ Imagine going between metropoles and only getting the motors to be engaged when you're already on the final approach of the destination, say a could dozen or a hundred vertical meters to climb only. Yes, on a heavier trains that's more energy draining per vertical meters, but a light train might not even make it to that hill without drive power to the wheels or maglev system. A theoretical evacuated train tube would be a game changer but also super difficult to accomplish. LIght trains would be back in play then, top speed would be the same between light and heavy trains and decelleration minimum.
Theoretically the lowest pumping losses would be at wide open throttle and in the highest gear so as not to use an excessive amount of torque to accelerate. Only use as much power as absolutely necessary to go over hills, ideally you'd be shifting into neutral at the top and just barely inch over and allow the vehicle to coast. The racing line is still valid at least if there is potential for tire slip, it will scrub momentum. One could even go as far as to align the vehicle with zero toe, maximum camber, lowest caster, and of course maximum tire pressure for the lowest rolling resistance.
I agree on everything except the neutral thing...putting it in neutral on FI engines doesn't save gas when coasting, leaving it in gear shuts fuel off completely as the drivetrain is keeping the engine running, not the fuel. In neutral, there's nothing keeping the engine running, so it uses fuel to keep it idling 🙃
I somehow did over an extra km over the gold on my first attempt. I had already done the fuel-saving license test but still. I guess it helped I wasn't bouncing off the limiter like a madman during the start countdown 😂
Gran Turismo 7 is, quite simply, one of the most gorgeous games on PS5. Tracks and vehicles, for the most part, look almost photorealistic, and environmental features like crowds, track markings, and background scenery are more detailed than ever.
idk if this will pan out in a road context (since earth has air resistance) but orbital mechanics would suggest to try timing your burns whenever the force gravity is accelerating the hardest. its called the Oberth effect and if im understanding it correctly, it might- MIGHT- mean you could do the most efficient work converting fuel into kinetic energy pressing the gas pedal whenever track dives more steeply downhill.
I wonder if you go in the pits on the second lap when you’re almost out of fuel if you can get that speed boost to get a little more distance at the end
@@swapnilmankame you didn't read the comment before replying, they're suggesting that he does it right at the end when he only has a tiny bit of fuel left so he can get a speed boost from it and get extra distance
I do this irl (I coast about 8+ miles of a 22 mile round trip commute to work) and what I found is that taking a racing line like you do is actually not the best way to do it. It might be faster time wise but the name of this game is exit velocity coming out of a corner. The less you turn the steering wheel the better. Even though a racing line is more of a straight line, the turn in towards the apex costs speed. The exception to this is probably a shicane where you can cut the corners almost entirely but those don't exist irl.
Something called the Oberth Effect from orbital dynamics tells us that most efficient use of fuel would be to accelerate with the force of gravity: i.e. going down hill. Your goal should be to gain just enough speed to crest the next hill, and repeat. This technique will give you the best results; so sayeth the physics.
Fuel saving is all about 2 things: keeping the aerodynamic cruise speed, and keeping the engine in high efficiency power band. There's certain speed at which the car consumes the least amount of fuel per mile and for this truck it should be around 40 mph, you gotta the use ecometer dashboard gauge here. And ICEs broadly make the most efficient use of fuel at 1/4 max RPM and 3/4 open throttle.
Its like camping in BC. "I got the fox suspension upgrade that reduced towing capacity by 30% and never sees sand. With the fully [over]loaded 4-axel 5th wheel A-train - hyundai electric in the back and 7 bikes on the roof rack" Dont ask how I came up with this story. (Lets just say Raptors suck taint and I know from first hand experience.)
Got it on the first try, here’s my tips: Only use about quarter throttle. Coast on downhills. Turn TCS off, the last thing you want is it preventing all the fuel you gave it from being used. NEVER rev it on the start line for these challenges. Don’t brake unless 100% necessary to keep you out a wall. And, obviously fuel map 6. Also, these tips I just made out would be helpful irl if you were running out of gas

just started gran 7 . extremely long intro lol first time gran player:) personally I like the fuel challenge. I bought the game because of that lol. but overall I like challenges. and I want to be a better racer.
On GT's model, if you're in a gear that is too high for the speed you're going, the car will spend additional fuel, which is why you see that blip of throttle at low speeds in higher gears. At any given speed, you should be in the highest gear possible that doesn't trigger that idle fuel usage because it doesn't translate into forward motion. On downhills, gear choice absolutely does matter. Higher gears will allow you to gain more speed, but too high and you'll trigger this idle fuel usage.
Great video LOL It would be amazing to see high level race car drivers do this IRL. To see them do the absolute opposite of what they've trained to do. This is absolutely my speed, I am terrible at GT... I'll giving this a shot!
You lost a lot of fuel because of the throttle input being at .1% when you had let go, it didn’t really go to 0% that many times. I’m sure you could go much further!
If the game physics is really good (and I think it is), I bet that no matter where you accelerate (uphill or downhill), if you stay at constant 1 mph all the time, I think you could go even further because it means that the friction with the air is minimized, and the friction in the car bearings is also minimized. And by my calculations it would take you 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete only one lap at 1 mph... So if you get bored on a Sunday afternoon, you could maybe try it :D
Achieved 11877m. Target speed 8mph first gear. Narrow lines, avoid tunnel curbs, avoid grass, and cut final chicane as much as possible. Coasting speeds for upshift and downshift are 14mph 1st - 2nd 22mph 2nd -3rd 30mph 3rd - 4th 38mph 4th - 5th
A few things to note about this challenge:
- There is no neutral gear.
- Gear choice on downhills didn't seem to change fuel consumption or speed attained.
- You can cut corners if you want but that's only really worth doing on the final chicane.
- Weaving doesn't add to the distance travelled. 1 lap is 3.33 miles always.
- The boys and girls back at the gravity factory have done an amazing job this year with their physics package.

So we were hanging out for about an hour gawking over our new bikes and our other buddy shows up randomly WITH HIS NEW BIKE(Harley nightster)!!! So we were like okay this is a sign, we gotta ride! It was truly one of the best experiences of my life and If I remember correctly we only took like 1 maybe 2 pictures that entire ride!
“And powerful” hahaha whatever, loser
7.33 miles with a couple of mistakes, got to admit I had your 7.27 to aim at and it took me a dozen attempts. Kinda like this one for variety.
Excellent vid of yours, thank you. (Will be putting mine up once I’ve edited it down from the 19mins it took)
Clearly, this needs to be a daily race
It could be fun to draft each other too

@@devonesq.7533 That's going to be an actual race series soon. "OK everyone you get 1 gallon. Whoever's car is out front when they all stop moving wins a full tank of gas."
It already is, that's me driving to work saving money and fuel
@@aluisious honestly... I'd watch that. No hybrids allowed, only big block V8's to ensure it doesn't go on forever, on a balanced track with about equal ups and downs so you can get the coasting action on. Then it's all on driver patience and tricks like drafting and taping gaps. I imagine it would actually be quite entertaining watching people wrestle with the decision to spend some fuel on a pass or just hope for a better draft.
"The Real Driving Simulator" indeed. We're all going to be driving like this IRL pretty soon. Lift and coast bois. Stretch that fuel.
I wonder, coasting does not consume any fuel right?
@@fishzara Yes, it does. It doesn't consume a single drop only when the crankshaft RPM is high enough at a given speed for a certain gear. Try dropping to a low gear in a downhill and check the consumption.
@@CapaNoisyCapa so I should be coasting at the highest gear my car has?
Im gonna do this in a freeway
What an utterly ridiculous yet entertaining challenge haha. Great video m8
@@JG54206 Lugging the engine burns more fuel and produces less power. It's important to keep your vehicle in the optimal gear for a given condition.
This is why vehicles HAVE lower gears. OP is correct.
@@operator8014 The engine doesn’t necessarily lug when you’re in one gear higher than you normally could be. If the engine does lug, then yes you will lose MPG.

I drive a Cummins and with today's prices I perfected this method: combining the downhills and the weight of the truck to add momentum is your friend. Roughly 40 mph is your best mpg and the slow crawl uphills isn't helping anyone
I do that in real life all the time lol. One day I started a 200 mile trip with 130 miles of range. Made it with 5 miles to spare, just had to work that pedal, take advantage of accelerating downhill, and easy on the throttle going uphill. I hate stopping during trips 😂
Why not fill it up before you head out? You’re just putting strain on your fuel pump doing this and unless you’re broke, then it’s just pure laziness
@@haroldmccarty1333 good question! I typically only fill up when it's close to empty. 10 years and I never had an issue with the fuel pump. Aside from squeezing out some extra mileage, I took pretty good care of that vehicle.
@@DirtySouthSOHK If it works for you then that’s all that matters. I’d be too paranoid if an emergency were to happen. Then I’d have no fuel to get out of/to get to said emergency
@@haroldmccarty1333I always rep "better safe than sorry", but my brother has done that for decades and only ran out a single time. His summer car is a 91 CRX, so he definitely notices the benefits.

Would accelerating through the pitlane on the 2nd lap allow you to get more speed considering it's a straight through and by then you have nearly 0 fuel. Meaning you will roll further along the last part of the track. You seem to lose about 5-10kms going through the final corners before the finish line.

Putting the fuel on 6 and started on 2nd and then got into 6th as soon as I could.
Then all the time in 6th at full throttle for the flat and uphill and coasting on the rest.
Only going down to second when I got under 30kmh on uphills and then to sixth as soon as I could
And then at the end just before the fuel ends hold the clutch so it keeps rolling
This reminds me so much of speed running, optional play styles and time management, yet it’s almost the exact opposite of a speed run to see how slow you can go. Amazing.
this reminds me of a silly video:
it's called "the 'speedrun' where Link stares at Rupees for hours".

I really wish they leaned into the hybrid cars more, like the Prius, and given us a MPG gauge like they had in GT4.

I could listen to Steve ramble on about technicals of racing all day. Thanks Steve love u
That's it. 😉
I found the eco challenge in the first or second tab of challenges very difficult too

Longer distance, deeper tunnel, higher top speed.\
Imagine going between metropoles and only getting the motors to be engaged when you're already on the final approach of the destination, say a could dozen or a hundred vertical meters to climb only.
What a masterclass. Was a pleasure to watch!
This is one of the most fun and unique missions in the whole game, I got over 4 miles (us) and the trophy
I somehow did over an extra km over the gold on my first attempt. I had already done the fuel-saving license test but still.
I guess it helped I wasn't bouncing off the limiter like a madman during the start countdown 😂
I genuinely got over 2 times the gold on my first try… this isn’t hard but it truly tests everyone’s patience.
😂😂

@@swapnilmankame you didn't read the comment before replying, they're suggesting that he does it right at the end when he only has a tiny bit of fuel left so he can get a speed boost from it and get extra distance

I love spending 20 minutes to go less than 5 miles
Sounds like my commute to work
I do this irl (I coast about 8+ miles of a 22 mile round trip commute to work) and what I found is that taking a racing line like you do is actually not the best way to do it.
This challenge is so entertaining! I actually dozed off and fell asleep watching it halfway. Good show! :P
This was one of the easiest challenges for me, but to be fair I wasnt trying to be on top of any leaderboard I was just trying to get gold
I remember a similar mission in GT6, really hard
Drachenlord!
I don’t have any friends so I’m always 1st place on my list.
Its like camping in BC. "I got the fox suspension upgrade that reduced towing capacity by 30% and never sees sand. With the fully [over]loaded 4-axel 5th wheel A-train - hyundai electric in the back and 7 bikes on the roof rack"
Dont ask how I came up with this story. (Lets just say Raptors suck taint and I know from first hand experience.)
Hopefully they'll add this mode to multi so we can see a full pack "racing" at 20mph
Divide the drivers into teams, make bump drafting legal, and now you've got a serious mindfuck of a sport.

The fact that he whoops my butt in every other challenge but this one I smoke Super GT hiimself - makes me feel good.
