The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I wasn't even aware of the Judy Garland tribute material. I did watch on TH-cam a recent Connie interview and she was asked if she had any career regrets. Connie mentioned that she regretted not delving more into the American songbook. Interesting remark. And with her tribute to Judy Garland, as you mention, Joe, that must have been all about the American songbook. I regret never attending a Connie Francis live concert. She once did a live show event in my city when I was a child. The theme, according to a newspaper article, was Connie's Birthday Party.
I did however attend not one but two Judy Garland live concerts, one in New York City at the Palace Theater. I recall that night as though it was yesterday. She was astonishing and her daughter, Liza and son Joey also performed. Both Connie and Judy are in a rare pantheon of GREATNESS!
Guys, as you probably already know Judy at Carnegie Hall concert was the #1 album of 1961.
Connie Francis is my favorite of favorite female singers. One can feel her poignancy in her recordings. Thank you for sharing The Ed Sullivan Show.

Please play more songs by Connie Francis who I used to listen to her records at age 3 and up as a kid ! I really love her songs and she has a very beautiful voice ! Dad said she had a hard life and had a rape case that made her go into herself but it did not hold her back as shes strong and over came her fear of what she went through as I have too !

She was the 1st female to get a #1 Hit on the hot 100 and that was in 1960 also. ❤
Yes, in 1960, Connie and Brenda Lee held the no.1 spot for 8 weeks (4 different songs). Kind of a big year for women.

Connie paved the way for all solo women artists and yes Brenda too helped hugely. :) Girl groups would be Spice Girls #1 and in my opinion I woukd say #2 is Diana Ross and The Supremes but if we go by sales there are girl groups who beat them years later but everyone knows that they are way better and are legends. =) I love the 50s and 60s singers and groups. The women I must say before Connie broke through kinda were boring song wise I notice when I listen to songs. Only a few songs here and there match how cool, fun and how great vocal wise. Brenda's dynamite is fun and memorable. End of the world by Brenda is the best version out of all the versions. Connie wise I love like a thousand songs lol so she is my Queen since I don't just listen to a couple of songs like most artists I love. When you listen to almost everything by one artist then they are your top. You chose Brenda I see as your favorite artist of all time. Very nice.

To be fair, there were a lot of no. 1's before the "Hot 100" existed. The Chordettes, for instamce, had some massive records that I still like. I always thought it was funny that Connie had "Who's Sorry Now" and Brenda "I'm Sorry". Diana Ross I never liked.😮
