I love this!! They are so lovely, elegant, and graceful in flowing pink dresses. It's amazing that they remembered the steps and were able to still sing beautifully, too. I love how they stuck with the original recording during the live performance instead of improvisation. Chic and classy as their name!! I just wish they had remained friends like they were in the beginning.
Wow! Florence was really on her game here. Generally she was a bit awkward with the dance moves which was totally endearing, but she totally slayed this one. How can you not love her? She was just so earthy, soulful and cool. Love ALL the Supremes, especially Diana, Mary, Florence, Cindy and Jean.
You’re right. It’s actually Diana who messes up a bit at 2:19. She went way too far to the left which seemed to have caught Flo off guard, as Diana almost ran into her.
Florence was a great soul singer. While Diana had more of a crossover voice. I loved both voices. Motown thought diana could help.expand motowns audience.
Kudos to Barry Gordy for implementing a charm school at Motown with the late great Maxine P. All of the female acts at Motown performed with grace, class and smiles.
You can really tell this performance that flo was enjoying herself to death. They were literally living a princess fairytale. You can tell by the way she stands the way she’s moved that she’s really enjoying that outfit.
Brilliant! The Girls look amazing, sound amazing, the entire performance was amazing. I enjoyed watching my favorite Supremes line up, especially Flo's model walk at the beginning!
...this is *CHIFFON-A-LICIOUS!!* ....ha-HAA!! (2:11) ...ELEGANT Gowns, they're singing LIVE, and Flo's regal 'flow''s & swings, shows she had JUST as much charisma as Miss Ross!! ...a truly, TRULY 'Supreme' performance from '...The Girls'!!
Amazing trio. They only had 12 number one hits on the billboard chart during their prime. Outstanding accomplishments. They had nice outfits, too. No wonder Diana Ross is a obsessed with clothes; she's a designer, I think.
@Victor Lorenzo ONLY 12 number ones? Most popular groups/artists of the last 50 years or so are lucky to get half that number, yet they still managed to create a following. The Supremes knocked it out of the ball park!!
It was this fantastic performance by The Supremes with the cool sax solo ( on the mono version of their Christmas album) that ignited my interest in hearing John Coltrane's jazz version. These women really rock out here!
It's funny how on the same day i find Julie Andrews singing the same song on The Gary Moore Show and then i find myself here! When it's summertime, to me it means the holidays aren't too far away.
I just did 2 different essays (on YT) about Supremes/Dreamgirls and Sound of Music/Cabaret & have just discovered this video. This combination is so satisfingly odd for me considering I never imagined the Supremes and R&H coming together.
This is why the Sups excelled and became part of the old guard entertainment establishment. Plenty of footage showing Ross performing old standards, show tunes in addition to their hits with aplomb
I remember watching this live. Something is weird. Are the backgrounds pre-recorded? Were they all pre-recorded? Florence just seems to be forcing that smile to me, dancing around when she really didn't want to (we now know).
Mary Wilson said that during the rehearsal for this performance, florences earring fell off and Diana stepped on it on purpose and shattered it so Florence beat the hell out of Diana and tore her wig off but they still had to do the show later that day . Diana and berry were furious and this was around the time they started talking to Cindy birdsong giving her offers to be a fill in supreme
@@saintjay8058 Yes, I read that too; I reckon it would've been amazing to see Flo swinging on Diana's real hair while Ross kept screaming "What'd I do? What'd I do?" (As if SHE didn't know?!)
@mhertz25 - that’s great! I just discovered the supremes this year, and I gotta say I’m mesmerised 😍 the Motown talents are amazing. It must have been very exciting to see these talents hit the scene back in the 60s
I never realized how little Mary, and Flo had to do on these fabulous hits, Diane was the one , but still wish they all had a chance to shine, best girl grup ever.
Mary Wilson was so right. Florence should have been the lead singer. She was so glamorous and very striking in her presence. You could sense the discomfort that she and Mary felt of always being forced to stand in the background while Diana sang lead for every song.
I went to see an exhibition of the Supremes' dresses when they were touring a few years ago. I saw them at the Lyndon Baines Johnson museum in Austin, Texas, and I believe these may have been included. I also have Mary's beautiful book of dresses that she released last year, and I'm pretty sure these are included in there. It's great that Mary still promotes the legacy of the Supremes like that. I heard that the Smithsonian turned her down when she offered to donate some of their gowns. Why on earth would they say no to this rich history?!? It should be on display for generations to come!
Flo was just tall, regal and gorgeous and certain dresses amplified it. Saddens me sometimes to watch them because I think of how Berry should have made stars out of Florence and Diana instead of just focusing on one of them.
I came here after seeing Diana Ross : E True Hollywood Story. During rehearsal for this performance, Flo's earring came off and Diana accidentally stepped on them. Then they said that Flo held her cool until she went into the dressing room and it took three people to get her off of Diana! I had to look and see how peeved she was and she does look mad to me!
More like the DIANA ROSS SHOW!..poor Flo and Mary..those two ladies were exceptional singers and yet once Berry and Diana became an item they stood no chance.. The Supremes made much better music in the early days with Smokey Robinson..as soon as Diana took charge (like a bull in a china shop) the quality of the group disappeared..Mary and Flo became mere background puppets which is sad considering Florence Ballard was the founding member of the group in 1961..
It was when a thunderstorm came up that frightened the children. They aren’t really sure about this new governess (Maria), but she calms them by reminding them to think of their favorite things when they are scared.
The Supremes were a musical era of their own.
I love that stores still play the Supremes' version of this classic during the holidays. I get excited every time I hear it! 🙂
Me too

Its one of the best sounding versions of this song too though

Florence is so effortlessly graceful. God bless her soul.
Listening to the Supremes is definitely one of my favorite things.
Ms. Ballard walk is EVERYTHING!!!!! And I love Ms. Ross run to the front. Every Diva should open their show this way.

Mary and Florence were everything ... you both will be sorely missed ladies. As always, thank you all for the music and memories. 💚

Classy, so graceful and elegant!
Love Flo's Walk on stage, she was looking drop dead gorgeous.
The Supremes Christmas album from 1965 is an amazing classic!

I love this song at Christmas holidays. I hope her girls & family love it too!

Notice how Flo always keeps an eye on Mary so she doesn't miss her cues. I feel for. I'm not that coordinated either so it must have been a challenge.
Definitely a peak for them, hitting it out of the park on Sullivan- wish these three could've gone on this way.
You’re right. It’s actually Diana who messes up a bit at 2:19. She went way too far to the left which seemed to have caught Flo off guard, as Diana almost ran into her.
Also, notice how Flo keeps her left arm inside the chiffon cape to create more motion and drama for the performance.
Florence was a great soul singer. While Diana had more of a crossover voice. I loved both voices. Motown thought diana could help.expand motowns audience.

The Supremes living up to their name, with a hypnotic Diana defining star quality- greatest girl group ever!
100%
I’m sure that Motown’s Chollie Atkins was the choreographer behind their moves and stage presence.
You can really tell this performance that flo was enjoying herself to death. They were literally living a princess fairytale. You can tell by the way she stands the way she’s moved that she’s really enjoying that outfit.
Talk about ladies with talent and class from a forgotten era
I couldn't take my eyes off of Flo... She was marvelous!!!

E Moore - they all look gorgeous. I think they outstrip any modern acts, elegant, sexy, talented... wish they were around now
I love those pink gowns very dreamy that's the reason why pink is my favorite color.

Not just singers. Entertainers. Wow!
Diana Ross once described Florence as "Tall, regal and proud"
Very accurate description!
I think that was in her Sparrow book
One of my favorite songs I have loved to hear at Xmas for many years. Performed by ms. Ross. I also like Julie Andrews original version
Two other good covers are Kelly Clarkson and Luther Vandross
Bravo! Lovely and classy ladies.

I never knew they covered My Favorite Things. & I never thought of it as a Christmas song
I can't hear their version without thinking of the 2018 Grinch
The best version of that old chestnut that I know of, and one of my favorite songs and performances by the Sups. These ladies were timeless!

Florence and Mary had their chance but couldn't get over. Diana had the voice and personality to be a lead.
I wonder where those dresses are today?
Mary probably has them.

According To The Book:Call Her Miss Ross(By J.Randy Taraborelli) Florence Jumped Diana Because Diana (Accidentally) Stepped On One Of Her Earrings!!
Right during rehearsal and after this performance 😂
Was this the performance which came after that infamous catfight during rehearsals where Diana reportedly crushed one of Flo's earrings with her heel?
Florence
The world needs another Berry Gordy. Frankly we've all had enough of this divisive nonsense.

The real beauty here was Mary!
She had more than Diana, too bad she wasn’t made the lead.
She wasn't lead bc she didn't have the IT factor that Diana did

Diana's voice was not strong enough to carry the song. As much as Mary is my favorite and most beautiful, Florence stole the show.
Flo was just tall, regal and gorgeous and certain dresses amplified it. Saddens me sometimes to watch them because I think of how Berry should have made stars out of Florence and Diana instead of just focusing on one of them.

This is not a Christmas song.
It's on a few Christmas albums. Did Julie Andrew sing it during the holiday in the Sound of Music?
It was when a thunderstorm came up that frightened the children. They aren’t really sure about this new governess (Maria), but she calms them by reminding them to think of their favorite things when they are scared.
