The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

They always came across as talented and wholesome. Different times.
It’s truly amazing what this family went through. So talent, yet such sadness. Susan and I share the same Birthday.
Well, _that_ was just fabulous! I had forgotten just how very talented the Cowsills were. Really a perfect arrangement and performance.
Thanks for sharing!
this was wonderful. What a talented family. I don't recall ever hearing Barbara singing solo before. What a lovely voice she had. I will definitely be watching this several times over the holidays.
This is one of my best Christmas memories on television.
Very talented family...they all had incredible voices! Great performance!
Outstanding performance with solos from each family member. I hope this channel will show their other performance from this show where they sang their (then) new single, "We Can Fly'.
We Can Fly was a great song and video. I only became Cowsill fan about 10 years ago. They were so talented. My sister was a big fan. She was into the Cowsills when I was into Led Zeppelin. Stay safe. Semper Fi
Greetings from Arkansas I do not think my family and I have ever heard of them great group should of been way up there with the Osmond family and the Partridge family the woman and girl have great Pixie Bob hair cuts God bless you and yours
@@annaleonardi6299 The Partridge Family came about, from the Cowsills
We can fly song sounds kind of similar to the love American style theme.
@@mikegee8875 - Bill Cowsill produced both songs.
great !!!
Love the Cowsills!! Thank you.
Jhon's voice is incredible 🥰
Who's Jhon?
@@lesreed9269 he means John, who sang Drummer Boy
That poor family suffered so at the hands of their evil father. 😪 So talented. 💜
Yes, he was truly detestable. I'm glad that my father was a calm rational guy. Never drank much at all. Never got over angry or violent. I hope the remaining kids are doing okay.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 He was evil all the time, he punched and beat the boys at the drop of a hat, and attempted to rape Susan when she was 10 or 11.
Susan reconciled with their dad after mom Barbara died, not glossing over what he had done, but he apparently had taken stock of his life, stopped drinking and tried to rebuild a relationship with the kids, with varying degrees of success. Susan came to understand that he came from a broken life, and understood why he brought that broken life into their family--again not excusing it, but understanding the root of it. Paul has never forgiven either dad or mom even decades after their deaths--both Bud and Barbara were alcoholics. Paul went so far to say (paraphrasing) that if after he dies he has to sit in heaven at a table with his mom and dad, he doesn't want to go.
It would be great to not have EVERY video ever posted, mention the negative. I swear if I get famous the last thing I want is “his mother slapped him on the daily. Poor soul.”
I wish Ed Sullivan channel would delete these.
@@phatgeezer1955 I always thought that when I was told we would see our relatives in heaven; thanks but no thanks. Way to awful the first time around!!
Looks like Mom has a giant Star Fleet logo on her sweater.
A group much more talented than their pop profile suggested.
Beautiful version of Little Drummer Boy.
I just “discovered” the Cowsills today and am now obsessed with them! Susan is 3 years older and I had the same pixie hair cut around this time.
Same, I discovered just them a few weeks ago and can’t stop listening to them, although the mother in the group creeps me out.
@@eveoakley6270 Funny you should say that - as I thought the same.
How exciting!! How I wish I was from the 60's... Kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷😘
The 60s were great. 1968, I turned 13 years old. There was great things in the 60s, and music was one them. The bad thing about the 60s was the war in Vietnam.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 It's true!!! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷🤗

@@usmc-veteran73-77 Covid virus around here is controlled. Lately, few cases have been detected and the numbers of deaths has decreased

Beautiful setting... all we need is the chestnuts! Loved the arrangement... A little bit of everything! Thank you for sharing! 💖
Eggnog or mulled cider would do, too!

Thanks so much for sharing this! Classic, amazing Cowsills. After all these years I STILL adore them.
Love this family. They were so talent together.
did I just see at 3:36 + the Original Moon Walk??
Never appreciated them back in the day….they weren’t cool enough. Now I watch and listen and wonder what in hell I was thinking. So much talent….easy on the ears and eyes. ❤️
Fun to watch. Mrs.Cowsill looks like she just came from an episode of Star Trek.
At least it wasn't a red top
😄
She looks like a Thunderbirds puppet. Creepy.
What talent
So much talent in one family!! Saw them live about 6 months after this and then again in a reuionon concert in 2000.
What talent and the mother sings wonderfully!
I always have to watch this every year ~ takes me back to happier & simpler times!
This was awesome! It was nice to hear each family member’s voice showcased.👍
Barry's little dance glide moves to Jingle Bell Rock is so comically cute. His mother seems to get a kick out of his character and charisma in this clip too. He seems to be amused with himself as he does it.
Barry was a good showman! He was always dancing around when performing and seemed to always sing with a smile on his lips and in his eyes. He was a handsome young kid...heck, they were all very good looking, and more importantly, talented!
I was in love with Barry ❤ Had his póster on my bedroom wall😊
Brings back fond memories. That had to be hard work and lots of practice to get right. Whoever did that stage setup sure made it fantastic.
YESSSSSS
This is such a fun video! I have watched this video several times now, and I only now just noticed John air drumming at the start of Jingle Bells...too cute! From what I can tell, Ed Sullivan really did like the Cowsill kids.
Cowsills deserved better, they deserved those 10 shows...
The Cowsills made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on October 29, 1967. Although contracted for ten appearances, their second and final appearance was on December 24, 1967, after Bud confronted the Sullivan production team over a technical glitch during the performance.
Bud made sure that didn't happen, didn't he?
Imagine this being done in December 2021 . . . impossible.
True, and what a sad commentary on our country and society today.
I know exactly what you mean, exclusive of,other religions, cultures, atheists, the LGBTQ community and Woke and Cancel Culture and modern day Liberalism!
Never relied how good they were
Greetings from Arkansas great family group they should of been well known the Daughter looks kind of like Marie Osmond did at that age God bless you all
Oh, Bill Cowsill
BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!
They were such an excellent band! Got shafted in so many different ways it's such a shame!
Yes they got shafted. Ive watched videos over the years and their Dad apparently was hard to work with.
The cowsills los amo
coming along around the time that the Jackson 5 were breaking through to stardom....you can see for yourself why they were on sullivan
Era um grande grupo 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Sooo beautiful but you never know what goes on behind closed doors…until it’s too late sometimes.
Wow that was great what talented family
I love The Cowsills😀👍🏿🎉🎊🎶🎸
They were great
I would say Barry had the most charisma of the group, but they're all great.
How can you compare The Partridge Family to them? Partridge's can NEVER come close to The Cowsills. What a great family band, so underrated. Should be in the hall of fame.
The Cowsills remind me a lot of the Osmonds.
I think much more talented than the Osmonds. They wrote songs, played instruments, and I think more successful.
well... I will say that shirley Jones was a better singer than mama cowsill...and susan dey was better looking than sue cowsill...and the girls literally bowed down to david cassidy from what I hear...but that is about all....
Really loved hearing this nicely done holiday medley. Nice to hear all cowsills sing any song. 🎵
@@joeenglert l read that The Partridge Family (a manufactured for tv singing family) was based on the Cowsills (an actual singing family) and certain characters were chosen for their looks to make them more appealing, of course.

Yeah, another big, tough military guy.
He killed the goose that was laying the golden eggs.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful! Much talent in the Cowsill family.
Mini-Mom must have been a Star Trek fan!
Wow
Brings back memories I'm sure for all of them as well as us, so talented :)
The Cowsills were the inspiration for the Classic 1970's American sit-com The Partridge Family.
Starring David Cassidy, Shirley Jones, Susan Dey, Danny Bonaduce, Susanne Crowe and Brian Foster.
And the Wrecking Crew.
Bravo hermosa navidad wow
💗💗🙏🏼🙌
The mom looks like she played Frieda Claxton on Golden Girls. Enjoyable performance.
Sweet Barry!!!!!

😍😍😍😍
This is sad the kids singing about something soft and yet there home was full of terrible abuse, one child in particular, endured severe abuse no one protected them .Also the money the children made was all spent by time they were young adults.
The parents had no respect for the children..
parents, hope they suffer from the pain they caused the children.
I met several members of that band at the happy together tour. All of them are awesome but Susan is the best.
So beautiful
WOW!!!! THAT'S AWESOME!!!❤
Nice performance. Sullivan should have let them on more often.

Barry as the Christmas "ham" love this family!
Me too. Barry is the bomb!
Wonderful!
Awwww💜💜💜💜
Eddie Foy and the Seven Foys. They would have been better than the Partridge family who were based on THEM. I made friends with Barry one night in the 80's. He said his oldest brother was total music genius on par with Brian Wilson. Nothing like family harmony, they could all sing great. I never heard of them before I met him. Little before my time. He did play me his cassette of an album he was working on. Very cool charming dude.
Bill, the oldest, was fired from the band by the father. That was the beginning of the end. He was the musical force.
Daing! I saw this when it was first on!
1967....holy crap! What a talented group . I think there's only 3 of them still alive
Four
Of the members in this video, only 3 remain. Another brother joined later, he is still alive making the total 4.

Wonderful footage.
How come they don’t save this for December?
And by the comments it appears some people are listening to these now as well..which is equally strange lol
We need some beauty right now.
No me imagino lo nervioso que estaban todos antes de los shows
Ed Sullivan had so many wonderful singers and performers. My mother especially like the Cowsills and I really didn't realize how good they were. We were lucky to have such wonderful talent on our TV and concerts in 1967.
Greetings from the great state of Arkansas Great show I do not believe my family and I ever heard of them great family.. I must have been a baby when this came out...the Mother and Daughter look great and in their Pixi Bob hair cuts they look very pretty they should have been well known like the Osmond's and the Carpenters and the Partridge family the dudes could have grown thir hair a bit longer but they are all a handsome bunch what a great find God bless you all The Lead guitarist kind the one on the right side kind of looks like a young Black Crowes Guitarist extraordinary Guru of the open G cord RICH BROBINSON
Great music from a sweet family - shame about the background problems.
Didn’t know Mom was a Star Trek fan.
I never get tired of seeing this wonderful "Live" video segment of my favorite family band. Barbara was a lovely lady. The kids, well, they are just the epitome of groovy!
I grew up listening to this awesome family.
Too bad their father gave them such a hard time. He was a real monster by all accounts.
Cantaban hermoso, extraña uno estos villancicos navideños que hoy brillan por su ausencia o no hay voces así de hermosas y armoniosas que los canten.
Wow! Amazing family, amazing performances!!!
One of the members was just in a band called Action Skulls. John Cowsill.
John is currently the drummer for the Beach Boys.
Thanks for mentioning this. Yes, The Action Skulls, John Cowsill with his wife Vicki and Bill Mumy (Will from Lost In Space).
They were just an amazing group. Too bad they didn't get the recognition they deserved. I absolutely love this segment.
hard to imagine these kids who seem so happy singing Christmas songs, went home to get punched in the face every day. Mom let it all happen. She never reported the little girl being sexually abused by their dad. Horrible!
There was no one to report it to, back in the day. No one who would do anything, and that includes the parish priest.
I think this is the first/only Cowsills performance I've seen that features John on vox. He does wonderfully (yes, I know this is mimed over a prerecorded track). But why isn't Paul in this performance?
Wasn't Paul later to the scene? Not sure where I read that or if I'm even remembering correctly or not.
@@rhaleymusic Paul joined the group in 1968.
excelente, lindo demais ver esas musicas antigas, agora so tem lixo de musicas horriveis na midia
Need to see the whole show.
It looks like the family dentist must’ve been British.🦷👀
Mom clearly a Star Trek fan.
Mom had such a beautiful voice
Excellent. Was living at Myrtle Beach AFB during that 1967 Christmas. What a treasure, I think I may have seen this show back then, heart warming 60's sentiments. America will never see days like this again.
Billy WAS the voice of the group...no Billy...no group
Yes, but that Bob did a good job taking over the lead, too!
First time I can remember seeing anything other than an angry scowl on the mother's face. The kids though were incredibly talented
The family got their singing talent from her, but she was forced to join the band by her husband. She didn't want to be there.
Why is Mrs Cowsill wearing a "Star Trek" emblem on her dress?
Susan is so adorable here...
Should have had dad come out drunk and start threatening the audience as the finale
Looking at all these old Ed Sullivan's makes me realize that Karen Carpenter could have been a Cowsill. She had the same look and talent.
