Behold! I answer the question I get asked more often than any other. Here's how I do my big, bouffant, backcombed goth hair every day. Useful if you fancy trying something similar.
Also: you can leave this in for a few days if you don't mind doing so, and just bung in some nice dry shampoo.

Ilysm dude 9 years ago u posted this and now in 2023 a person trying to get into scene is following it... luv u forever u_u
Mima PFP I love it
Damn you younger folks got it easy as far as the big hair is concerned! Rave number five hair spray, lots of upside down backcombing and hair dryer was the go to. Elmers glue or egg whites were not uncommon either! This was back in the Cure/Siouxsie/Bunnymen days...
Trey Cauley : I'm old enough to remember those days, although my hair was SO long at the time, and my high school would have absolutely had a FIT if I'd figured out how to actually make this look work for me back then. 😂 Not to mention, I was still with my parents at that age, and while they could tolerate the makeup and clothing, they didn't want me doing *anything* chemically to my hair beyond shampoo and conditioner. (Needless to say, the second I left for college, my hair got much more exciting. 😉 )
oh my god. You used glue in your hair????????? I may be a goth but I can't even imagine how difficult that must've been to brush out--
Wait you poured glue into your hair? How did you get it out?
@@AdelaTomankova Ha! It's water soluble. You just wash it out like anything else :)
I used bar soap mixed with gel for my spikes😂🔥🦇🔥
"How," the world cries out, "Do you do your hair?"
That made me laugh.
You look like a rad teacher in the beginning when you show us your hair without any fancy styling!! :DDDDD
+Yuna Vague Visions I was about to comment the same thing ahah
Thought the same
I wish I would have had a teacher this cool. I would have actually went instead of skipping. 😂
Beat me to it by a year
It’s been pretty recently I’ve allowed myself to explore the way I actually like to dress and express, your videos have been incredibly helpful to me, even ten years later ♥️
She looks like a goth librarian :)
quin egan yes she does
That’s what I thought!
imagine having a goth librarian that would be amazing
A sexy goth librarian ;)
I love this look. Sadly I bleach the shit out of my hair, so teasing/backcombing will destroy it and make it all snap off. I'm thinking of getting a hair piece that I can tease up like that.
E no. My natural hair colour is pitch black so bleaching it to a light blonde really did a number on it. But using oils, masks and protein treatments really helped. My hair is long down to my butt so I didn’t wanna risk breakage with teasing. Anyway now I’m back to my virgin black hair. I was completely blonde for 3 years and would get my roots done every 5 weeks. It got really expensive and soooo time consuming to take care of it. If I didn’t use all those treatments constantly, it would’ve all broken off. So I finally let my black roots grow out and dyed the blonde hair purple, lilac, blue, silver...rocked an ombré situation for a while. now I’m back to all black
I love that you went over how to brush it out as well. Not many people do that. I usually hop in the shower, put conditioner in and slowly comb it out from tip to root. I've gotten dreadlocks out that way. My hair doesn't tangle easily, apparently.
I've tried this hairstyle today and I love it! I didn't have as much products as you - and obviously your experience- but it was really nice. My hair is naturally blond and a bit curly so I looked more like a weird fairy rather than a goth. Anyway, thanks a lot.
**wants to try this but is afraid parents will walk in**
You will be okay! I want to try it too, and my mum knows I'm into these things.
Nebulous Killjoy I've never read anything more relatable in my life 😂😂
Creepy Kitty same lolll
Nebulous Killjoy Just do it!
Nebulous Killjoy Btw..I like your username... yup..I'm trash.
my 3 year old son seems to love watching your vids :)
Batty Pettit yessss may he grow up unique and happy much like our lovely queen
Woah this comment was 3 years ago, that means he’s 6 now.... hope you and him are both doing well!!
Hope he is now an epic Goth 9 year old!
@@mobot333 This comment is now 6 years old, he's like 9-10 now 😚
he must be goth
Day 69 stuck in her hair. Luckily there is a small village in here and I have found work on the farm. We have wifi now and a post office. Some children here have never seen the outside world. If anybody reads this please send help and send bacon, and tell my family and Xbox I love them.
Love,
Kaylie hoane
I am about to go into production of Addams Family the musical this weekend. Big, messy, big, big hair is required for the Ancestors, (the chorus) for a variety of costume eras. I have been watching vids all evening, and I LOVED this one, will be posting it to the cast's wall tonight where I'm certain it will be very, welcomed, very appreciated! Thank you! xo
There is a Lydia deetz vibe going on here....and I love it!
I used your tutorial to do my hair up for the Bowie Ball. Worked really well. I went as Jareth from Labrinth. It took me a good 45 minutes to get it down again though. Pity I can’t post the pic.
Anyway, thank you!
Paula Kruyer that's fuckin awesome!
I thought you had your hair tied up in a messy pony tail for the longest time..
You should do an updated version of this..... Unless its the same lol.
I was thinking that too. She has the shaved side now so it might be different.
+Samantha Barrella she's letting it grow out now
Brushing your hair out afterwards must be a nightmare!
(you look absolutely gorgeous btw)
Im so scared to do this, ive never backcombed my hair in my life and I feel like I may damage my hair but its too damn pretty not to try. I hope the style looks alright with blue hair ^_^
This helps so much! I have thin, straight hair, and no products other than water in a spray bottle, and this worked for me. I just dampend my hair with water, did this, and blow-dried it upside down, and it worked. :)
still a great tutorial 10 years later, thank you!!
Lol Backcombing is how I started my dreadlocks 4 years ago and I thought you could only use that technique for dreading hair. Also you look awesome and I love all your vids!!
Love the hair thanks for the tutorial!! Btw this might be an old hat for you but detangling is a breeze with a plastic tangle teeze brush - my hair turns into a birds best on its own and is so stubborn it's actually broken several brushes and combs. The tangle teeze (or curry comb style brushes of similar design) sorts it out rapidly and is surprisingly pleasant to use. (Haha they're not paying me - that brush just genuinely made my life easier)
Dang! Any style of hair....you can pull it off great. I love it , as well, when it's down.
Garnier : the official goth brand :P
Urban decay tbh
I did this today, sort of. It ended up being more scrunched up, and I used a hair clip instead of bobby pins, but it's the same idea. Looks great with dark red dyed hair as well! :D
I'd give anything to be able to do this. I love this particular look so very much. I do what little I can with what little I've got. Shoulder length, very ultra fine and thin, thin, thin hair (as in, the hair is skinny AND there is not much on my scalp). So if I do back combing and fluff you can see straight through. And if I use any oils/serums, my hair immediately looks stringy, clumps together, and you can see my scalp right through my hair. I make do with my version of a "messy bun" but even then, I just don't have enough hair! I'm so envious of all your possibilities, and all your options!
Merrida100 I feel ya, my hair is falling out too. And it hurts,so much when you want to do the 80s goth or metal hair style. There just isn't enough hair.
I remember watching this video two years ago and I did to my hair for School Halloween party. Since then I'm known as Edward Scissorhands.
I'm planning on doing this on Halloween too.
I even have fake vampire fangs to go along with it
oh thank god! i have finally found another girl with the same hair texture! XD automatic like
Would love to see an updated version of this !! :D
Battling frizz is a constant struggle, but thick hair does have its benefits. Lovely video as always.
Thank you SO much oh my god. I've been searching for a tutorial like this for my senior photos this year !!
The nostalgia!!! I use to try to follow this tutorial for years and got it to do perfecting less than a handful of times. My hair was just too thin and got thinner and thinner throughout high school due to stress 😅
I love watching old gothic ytubers🙏🙏🙏
Old? 😅
This vid is giving me flashbacks to me 30 years ago ... way better products today! We used soap, gel and spray, and just avoided washing it as much as possible. Awesome work.
I absolutely love your hair! I've been trying to get my hair to stand up like this since I was 14. I am now 21.
I will not be able to recognize you without your awesome hair, coloured contacts and pretty spooooky makeup. I love it sooo much!
I really love your hair down, It's Black Friday. xx
Ok, I didn't see this vid, and I asked for it in a current vid, sorry (I wasn't wearing MY glasses) Back-combing, teasing, ratting the hair is so hard on it, but you're combing it out right, just make sure you deep condition once a week. (I went to cos school & learnt this there). Lovely video, doll.
I did it and it turned out great. my hair is shorter than yours but I loved how it turned out. you gave me the confidence to be who i am. a memeber of the gothic subculture
I'll try that. My hair is growing out, after having had ovarian cancer (I'm cleared), but my hir i in such annoying length atm
Seeing some with a similar hair type makes me so happy 😁
I have really thin straight hair so for people who also have that type I recommend curling and setting your hair with hairspray before the teasing part. I hope this helps
FINALLY able to do my hair like this noww, used to have a head chock-full of thick hair but now it's thinned out and i've taken to an undershave for this
your awesome... gosh I love that you don't care if people don't like you, or if they don't like how you express yourself. Your truly amazing : )
I have extremely fine hair...I want to try teasing my hair again now that I have 'grip powder', heavy duty hair spray, backcombing spray and a proper teasing brush. Your video really helps...hopefully I can get it to work. :p
This video isn't only a tutorial, its an entire concept
from my experience mix of multiple things is the way to go HOWEVER for me if i use too much wax it looks wet/oily and falls down. the hairs stick together thus get heavy. what i go for is sticking them up, bending halfway through downwards. i push the limit of length that can spike upwards. my style isnt the "fuzzy" kinda volumous. its more like "spacious" (for the lack of a better word) volume because its kinda long but not very long. again it curves back down. it took me so many tutorials and attempts to make it work. my hair is very thin too so that also doesnt help. i still need help seeing how others do their hairs cause with different cuts i get i need to convert to a new method and that requires more trial and error. kinda a fun process getting it to work but sucks that i need to clean it up and unknot just after getting outta shower and the entire process of trying to do my hair
with your hair down and glasses on you kinda look like the female tremere vampire from the game 'Vampire: the Masquerade'
I never come across anyone that even knows Dreadful Shadows so a million thumbs up just for that 😍
THANK YOU 10-YEAR-OLD VIDEO PLS LIVE FOREVER
8 year old video, and you're still helping the emo/goth kids out there
garnier is amazeballs.. thanks for the tutorial! :D
I absolutely love the anti-frizz serum. I use the same kind along with sulfate-free shampoo. It's the only thing that can tame my frizz.
First found this video the other day. Now I'm sitting down and taking notes! :D Best hair tutorial for us of the frizzy hair I've seen thus far. Wish I'd had something like this to teach me about hair and makeup when I was a teen in the early 90s.
Even tho this was 10 years ago this is so helpful❤️
the way how you speek reminds me of the joker in dark knight - and i kinda really like it!
dang you must wake up at the buttcrack of early
You are gorgeous. I envy your confidence that allowed you to start tinkering your look to where it is now. 👍🏻
I just love how spooky you look in the thumbnail.
You're so cute haha! I've always wanted to learn this, thanks Mrs. Owl :D
I just adore her look.
this is awesome, when I take my dreads out im trying this :]
Just Jessy how do you take dreads out???
@@karlaf.r.1657 you just start untangling them from the bottom up lol
You look really cute with glasses on...
I accidentally did this to my hair by scratching it with hairspray in my hair from the night before 😂 and now I’m wearing it teased daily
Ket Dennings meets Lydia Deetz with a touch of Helena Bonham Carter.
...I kind of killed my dark side when I got a bit older for work......but now I'm a house mom and I'm definitely having the itch to start again. love your channel. been binge watching lol
Really helpful, im getting sick of hair without volume haha.
I absolutely love your accent.
I used to use this video to do my hair in highschool
im absolutely loving the voodoo church playing in the background of this vid
something that would make this easier would be if put your hair into either one or two ponytails on the top of you head and then tease it. you can get a similar effect but you wont have to do nearly as much work or use as much product to get it to stay because the ponytail holder will keep the hair in place
You are the cuttest girl in the word, I love all of your videos, hugs from Mexico!
If you don't mind me saying you look hotter with glasses
Old video, sure, but I love how you're a living evidence of how much of the goth lifestyle can be about a certain sense of humor
your videos are absolutely amazing! you have been a true inspiration for me. keep making more videos :)
It's Black Friday I know how it feels to have frizzy thick hair and I didn't know how to tame it so thanks for some of the tips ^-^
Boy your hair looks amazing down! xxx
It looks really great, I wish I could figure out something like this for curly hair.
Summerella nothing, brush it out and a big frizz, which means bigger hair. Then just Idk straighten the hairs sticking out. Or... Just straighten it at the beginning a bit and do the same as,this girl.
ICON
I used to put shaving cream in my hair and than backcomb it. works great
Bobby pins, hair ties, hair spray, anti friz serium and de-tangler should be everyone friend
I really like that anti-frizz product too!
How do you get it untangled?
I'm trying this tomorrow and i hope it will work on my non-frizzy stright hair as well :D
There's also a hair serum called crack that comes in a light blue bottle... It looks like lotion and works WONDERS on frizz
Here in 2024!!
Would this work on a wig beccsuse i have a natrual disaster above me and its getting anoying so ma mum orderd me a black little bit curly wig and i really want to try it out on a wig im still a baby bat :) love ♥♡ Dawn
Your hairstyle suits you so well!
So, I've been trying to get my hair up for a few months now. I've had it up in a Mohawk a few times but needing at least one other person and about an hour (or two) of time free to get it done (longish hair lol) is not an option.
I've been wanting to try a Deathhawk-like style, but have been hesitant because my hair is naturally thick and lifeless.
Been meaning to ask you how to do your hair as I was too lazy to look through your vids, but this was in the related vids to your latest one (reaction to buzzfeed) so don't need to now.
Will definitely give this a try soon-ish. Thanks for the vid. :)
A tip is to spray hairspray on the section you're working on, and backcomb it before it dries! That should help :)
I don't know why but you remind me of a goth Kat Dennings. Don't ask why, I will never know.
.
I see it :)
I was just thinking that!
True
Hi, I was just wondering if you would do a closet tour or show some of your clothes because I really admire your style :)
Thanks! :) Haha sure I just might, suppose I have a whole room full of clothes, may as well show it off right? :p
You're welcome :) Yeah it would be great to see, I wish I had that many clothes! :p
I love Revlon Lock it hairspray they playing around when they made that hairspray.
i love your hair and ur makeup, you are awsome and i subbed to you
Thanks!! :D
your welcome ^,,^
wow your hair looks awesome before and after but the way you tease it makes it look like your hair was way longer than it really was before, HOWWWW?
Still useful to this day, thank youuuu! 🖤
i luv your videos
Thanks :)
+It's Black Friday .Love everything =}
+It's Black Friday You could do so many awesome styles with your hair and still look Goth. I love your look but I couldnt do the same thing every day....just most days. plus I like hot pink, electric purple, and electric blue. I find that a little bit of color is good.
+It's Black Friday I just realized, you look a little bit hotter with your glasses... I feel a litter better about my glasses now.
THIS HELPED A LOT. THANK YOU. Nice make up by the way!!!!! 😍😚
I was looking for a way to tease my hair to look like pennywise and, no shade at all, this has been really helpful! Obviously im gonna style it differently, probably the whole thing, but it enlightened me, a hair noob. Thank you!
Here super late but your like everyones goth sister here 😌
