    Just did a Duromax 440 swap on a 1999 EZGO workhorse this summer, the old engine was seized. these Duromaxes only make around 15hp stock (the 18hp is miscalculation of RPM X Torque). I'm running a stage 3 engine with a mikuni carb valve springs and a bigger cam. i have 23 inch tires and it went 26 miles per with the stock 12.44:1 gears and the engine at 5800 rpm. after the 8:1 gear swap (best thing to ever happen for this cart). it goes 35-40 mph with no loss in acceleration. These druromaxes are much more stout compared to predators and have better tolerances. i have taken this engine over 6000 rpm stock before the stage 3 install and kept it 5500 for minutes before without any negative effects. I still have the same problem as you however, where it is just so damn loud, I put a tiny 80cc moped silencer with an exhaust hole the size of dime and it did not quiet down a bit. one thing you did that i wish i did was keep the stock clutch, I went with a 780 series comet and it has caused me many issues because i'm still using the stock driven. But overall this is an awesome build you made and from what I experienced the more power and performance based items you put on your cart the less drivable it becomes at normal golf cart speeds. would love to see more people doing 440 swaps as they are so much cheaper than a V-Twin swap.

    My son just got a 92 club car and he wants to get a new engine for it for more speed... I found a duromax multi use engine on Amazon for under $350... Your video should help him with the modifications... Thanks for sharing! Just amazing!

    Hey man, love the video. Wondering where your located? And maybe if u wana make some money helping a fella out to get his up and running if u have time! Haha
    My stocker is running good but would be nice to have more speed and grunt…
    Best video I’ve seen by far.
    I have the tools but not the skill to finish out the build… well I probably have the skill…. But would be a lot nicer to have a build “teammate” it’s easy for me to get distracted!

    Hello, can you tell me where you bought your taper kit from?

  • @joshkeeble507

    Great video you explained the process well. I'm back and forth on getting the same engine you used or picking up a predator engine. Would you do anything different if you had the chance? Where did you get the tapered sleeve for the drive clutch? Thank you,

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A year later the engine is working great. If I was to do anything different it would be a better muffler. It’s a little loud for running around the neighborhood. I mainly use it at the race track where noise isn’t an issue though. I will say the more ive modified the muffler to make it quiet, more power is robbed from the engine. The tapered sleeve I got on Amazon. It’s steel, I thought that would hold up better than the aluminum ones and I’ve had zero problems with it. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment, it was a fun project that made a big improvement on my old cart. It fires right up in -20f to 100f.

      @@IRBB484 I decided to go with a duromaz engine and so far the build is going great. Im still in the fabrication stage and I have a question about starting the engine. I'm using the starter/generator as well. Engine starts with pressing the gas pedal and dies when you let off. My problem is you have to choke it everytime to start it. Did you have the same issue? How do you start and stop without having to reach down and choke it every time? Thanks,

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only need to choke it when the engine is cold. I believe the video shows where I drilled a small hole in the choke lever and installed a choke cable that is easy to access from the dash.

    I'm curious to know how you did the gas lines, from stock tank, to the cart tank?

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I didn’t show what I did there. If you look at the 40 sec mark of the video, you will see I ran the fuel line to the carburetor from the stock cart fuel pump. I did have an issue with the fuel lines. The cart fuel hose is 1/4” and the carburetor hose is 3/16” , I found a fuel filter on Amazon (search fuel filter 3/16” 1/4”) it has both size barbs on both ends. Worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

    Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t you running the transmission in reverse to go forward because of the clockwise rotation of the factory engine? If that is the case how is the trans and holding up? I’ve read on forums that people say the gears won’t oil properly running in reverse but I never saw someone say they had tried the swap and it worked.

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  ปีที่แล้ว

      The older club carts ran in the clockwise direction (like most engines) I’m not sure what year it changed but mine is a 1990. I do know a few that run their cart in reverse to go forward and have had good success.

    Does anyone know what the arm on the dif is for? I’m doing a similar build on the same style cart.

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trodaxium _ that arm is the governor for the stock engine. It works off of speed.

    Did you put a key in the clutch adapter into the key way for the crank shaft?

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  ปีที่แล้ว

      No key, it’s strictly a taper.

  • @Force606

    Can you tell me why a taperd sleeve had to be used please

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tapered sleeve was necessary to use the original clutch with this engine. Most “off the shelf” or universal engines have a “straight shaft with a keyway. The original engine had a tapered shaft therefore the use of a tapered sleeve was needed.

      Rick was your motor a clock wise spinning motor originally? Just picked up a 97 club car seems as tho I would have to use forward as reverse and reverse as forward if I dropped a motor in there the way it is, sorry if I missed that in your video thanks

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mthsmouse I was lucky, the earlier model carts originally came with Counter clockwise rotation. So you are correct that you would need to run reverse to go forward. I’ve read where it’s been done quite a bit, but I don’t have experience with it myself. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    Wouldn't it been easier just make your shaft the same as the old engine

    • @IRBB484
      @IRBB484  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would require disassembling of the engine and machining the crankshaft.
