Working on UTEs is always a challenge as there are significant space limits where it comes down to choosing the right subwoofer. More than ofter there’s no other option than grabbing the infamous underseat bass pump which we try to avoid at all cost. Fortunately in this model, we were able to modify the space behind the rear seat and fit in a true sealed subwoofer in a nice slim enclosure. Small in size yet big in power output for this Toyota Hilux stereo upgrade.
Having the sub sorted, the rest was an easy task for us. We installed the 8″ Kenwood head unit made exactly to fit this Hilux model, hence a totally seamless solution. The wireless CarPlay was done.
Next, we soundproofed all 4 doors, fitted them with new speakers and connected to the amplifier. The entire system got a clean separated signal from the new head unit using the RCA outputs and was tuned with the Kenwood DSP processor.
As a final touch, we mounted the subwoofer remote control in an empty button slot in the dashboard.
Results:
This was a complete integration of a new sound system with no space compromised, keeping the 4WD fully usable for all the fun.
