  • There are many versions of Final Fantasy VI out there. I believe one of the best ways to play this classic RPG is actually a patched version of the Game Boy Advance release Final Fantasy VI Advance.

    What version of this game did you play?

    • @Enzed_

      I played the GBA version with the music patch and colour patch. Tho it's not perfect. When playing with headphones you can hear some hissing noises from the music and also the GBA isn't powerful enough to run this game. It lags sometimes and when you're in the airship the game gets pretty choppy compared to the SNES version which is a smooth mode 7 graphics.

    I don't really agree about the sound restoration patch, while it restores the original music, the sample rate is so bad that it creates a horrendous hissing, compression artefacts, and the stereo separation is completely destroyed, making it, in my opinion, even worse than the original GBA version. For anybody that don't exclusively play on low volume on the original GBA speaker, it's just a bad experience. If you want a better general experience, better patching the og SNES version with new translation patch and QoL improvements.

    • @TheNameIsSR
      @TheNameIsSR 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Geniune question, how does the patched SNES rom compare to the pixel remaster?

    • @Stremon82
      @Stremon82 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@TheNameIsSR it's a legit question but very hard to answer, as the pixel remaster has been basically entirely reworked and remade down to the sprites. It has fantastic orchestral music, and a lot of quality of life improvements, but also has a few issues like scrolling being stuttery and some sprite animations missing. The sprite style is somewhat changed too, which is a matter of taste. I'd say the remaster is worth it if you can ignore these issues or are willing to tweak the PC version to kind of fix them. But you can't go wrong with the original either if you really want the pure original experience.

    • @Evilriku13
      @Evilriku13 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You know that this isnt possible for foreign languages right? I'm not a native english speaker, so a translation for my language for the SNES version still isnt availbile. And the last time someone promised to use the GBA script for FF5 in my language they messed tons of spelling errors up.
      Besides, I dunno what version you got for the GBA soundpatched version but I don't have that hissing or artefacts issue. Maybe cuz I play it on the NDS, because the GBA version generall has this issue you describe from what I hear from some folks if they listen closely to on hardware sound output from a multitude of games on it, so make of that what you will.

    • @Stremon82
      @Stremon82 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Evilriku13 being french, I know the feeling. That's why recently I play the pixel remaster instead of the SNES. As I said in my comment, the sound quality issue is only noticeable if you have good sound (modded GBA or analogue pocket for instance), or if like me you like to use earphones. But it's not only hissing, it's generally very low sampling quality, that makes the sound bad and completely destroys the stereo separation.
      Just compare it with the original SNES game directly and you'll see what I mean.
      But if you are enjoying it anyway, it's all good, I don't want to stop anybody from having fun, just stating the issues people like me have with it 😄

    Video Game Communities coming together to try and make the best version of a game is an absolute necessity for video game preservation as companies regularly abandon, neglect and sometime even deliberately destroy versions of games to make quick buck.
    I'm currently Playing Tales Of Symphonia, but the GCN version with fan upscaled HD graphics, Widescreen and 60FPS which has been lost in all subsequent re-releases of the game.

FF2 and FF3 followed but stayed on the Famicom in Japan. FF4 was released on the SNES and was rebranded as FF2 on the SNES for us in the west. FF5 stayed on Super Famicom. FF6 was rebranded as FF3 for Super Nintendo. Obviously all games since then have been rebanded to the original Japanese names due to the PS1 ports and GBA ports etc.

      I really beg you to give II a chance. The story is far above the other NES/Famicom games, really feels up to par with the likes of IV and VI especially in it's complexity and maturity. And its absolutely the standard that later FF games build off of in storytelling going forward, and it's deeply important to the legacy of the franchise. Hell, Cid and Chocobos were introduced in II. I understand what people say about the mechanics may be intimidating, but I swear that its worth adapting to if story means anything to you. The problems are highly exagerated. I will argue its possibly the best RPG on the Famicom / NES with only the likes of Dragon Quest IV, Mother, and Sweet Home giving it a run for its money.

      @@badwrongfun5541 "good story" sure mate. How many throwaway characters do you want in your game? - Yes. How much of a simple antagonist do you wanna have? - Yes. This game is a shitpile of ideals because it was one of Kawazu's first games he worked on, and he did a WAY better job with it on Makai Toushi SaGa aka Final Fantasy Legends.
      Also Cid was introduced in FF3, get your fuckign facts straight!!
      Mother 1 was also a terrible RPG experience, as they havent done playtesting the final dungeon of the game and it SHOWS! It's also WAAAY too grindy for its own good as new party members start at such a low level that it's embarassing how someone can be proud of that! I'd rather throw a buck for DQ3, DQ4, Ys 1, Crystalis, Faxanadu, Magic of Sherazade or Willow then to play the first three FF titles on that console or Mother to begin with!

      Persona 3 Reload is a great upgrade to Persona 3 FES (enhanced ps2 version) and Persona 3 Portable (psp) for a lot of people, but not everyone likes the music, voice acting, or artistic direction as much as the older versions.
      The only thing Reload is missing content-wise is the Female MC, who is only in Portable. And while Portable has another route to play through, better combat, and more QoL than FES, it's a downgrade visually and to the overall atmosphere. Portable also doesn't include The Answer, which is an extra part of the story that's in FES and coming as DLC for Reload.
      So, it's a case of each version having something that the others don't, and people will argue endlessly about what the best version is
