This is an insane amount of effort! I just came into this channel interested with your content, but was shocked to see you don't have a higher view count! You deserve so much more. Here's hoping this gets picked up by the algorithm!
Excellent video man! enjoyed all of these games. This was a time when I played and guys that I played were very outdated and didn't loose in one turn lol
I actually just started playing The Sacred Cards yesterday so it's a really fun coincidence that this video came out when it did. Great video as always. I like this retrospective format a lot.
Nice video compilation! Duelist soul and world championship 2004 i feel are the most accurate to the classic feel of the card game before all the new rules started being implemented. Yup im an oldy....interest stopped after the ending of the original anime.
I'm 2 years late in seeing this video form when you posted it, but man I'm so glad it popped up on my home page. The nostalgia this brought back was wild. From all those games there were probably 3 or so I never played, but each one was always such a blast and I'm happy I still have them. Lord knows I spent so many hours on World Championship 2006, that one and Worldwide Edition were my all time favorites.
Thanks for explaining that field scanning thing from ROD! For so long I thought my copy of the game was broken because of that thing, now knowing it’s actually an intentional part of the game… that’s actually SO much worse! Still one thing I’ll give that game credit for: The way it tries to emulate Joey’s Brooklyn accent through text makes me smile 😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
Damn i just had to sub man what an amazing video retrospective.... I love yugioh still play even now with those 2 turns duels lol but back in like 2002 i was in the Usa playing the shiat outta Eternal Duelist Soul what a classic... Oh and the music!!! ... Im now back in Colombia and have many fond memories of these games... Thanks for this video man its a love letter so passionate about games and art
Thank you for your comment. I’m gonna have a good excuse to make another Yugioh review later this year when Konami releases their retro collection, some previously Japan exclusive games inside of it. Super excited
This was such an excellent video! I really enjoyed watching through all of this. I’m currently going through a nostalgia kick and playing my old GBA games again. I don’t own a Yugioh game, but I have a soft spot for the GX cards and anime, so I might have to pick that up somewhere
Bro, DDM was so easy to beat the AI, just spam low summon, straight line to them, and cut off any room for them to summon. When I figured that out, it was Joever
My brother and I were just the right age when Yu-Gi-Oh came to the States, and while it grabbed him, I never got on the train. He was super into the card game and tried to get me to play, but I would get bored fast and tap out barely even five turns in. I don't think he ever got a full game out of me. The anime only grabbed my attention during that ark where they wind up in the computer world, but I fell off on a cliffhanger. So sadly I never got a case of the Yu-Gi-Oh fever. In my adult years, I became good friends with a Yu-Gi-Oh queen, and back in February I went to a swap meet and there were a lot, a lot, A LOT of Yu-Gi-Oh games and I snapped up all that I saw and sent them to her. She said she only had one of them but the label of her copy was damaged, so she was happy for a clean copy. I might have even completed her collection. Earlier I found a bootleg of Dark Duel Stories but it seemed to play fine. I only popped it in to test and see if it worked, then sent it off to her. I looked into this video mainly to see if they were all dueling-related, and to some extent they are. Good work on this video!
Wonderful video, EDS was also my bread and butter growing up and no matter how obtuse and unapproachable Reshef is I can't help but also love it for having one of the best YGO soundtracks, a cool story, and just its own weird niche in the library. Hoping you've got DS and PSP followups in the works, but I'd also love to see a console YGO vid as well just to hear real living human beings actually acknowledge Falsebound Kingdom and Capsule Monster Coliseum existing
Duel Academy I played a massive amount of on my PSP. Had an emulator on it. I played Yugioh before, but that game put me deeper into it. I was glad to see my Summoner of Illusions strat that I never could use in real life due to the lack of people playing the card game, worked insanely well in game. Ah, the memories
I'm not sure exactly when multiple deck loadouts started for the World Championship series but it was not 2005. 2004 has that mechanic. You can save up to 3 decks.
THANK YOU As a child, I knew I had one gba ygo game. I didn't know that much about it other than the fact that it was an R.P.G. I was like, "Hey, why can't I find this? Shouldn't it be popular among ygo fans, since it's got the additional rog aspects?" It was Reshef of Destruction! Thank you so much, I've been meaning to find that again
I've put probably hundreds of hours into Eternal Duelist Soul over the years but really never played any of the other games. Think I'm gonna have to give Stairway and 2004 a shot
I actually never knew until i looked it up cause i vividly remembered Worldwide edition being released before SC and RoD but SC and RoD were actually released a year after the japanese release and Worldwide was released in NA BEFORE the japanese release by like a couple of weeks
when will we be getting a nintendo ds yugioh retrospective? yes ds is retro now. side story: i was playing burnout legends on my psp and it had the stamp on the title screen saying it came out in 2005. for perspective the psp was released in 2005, the ps3 was released in 2006 and the year right now is 2023 so burnout legends came out 17 years ago. if you where to play a game that came out 17 years ago in 2005 you would be playing nes games from the 80's like super mario bros 3.
I liked the Sacred Cards vs. Reshef game engine comparison. However, to really do it justice, you should have also shown a Reshef clip with a Continuous Effect Monster in play which pauses the game for about 2 seconds on every single one of those cursor checks to force you to read the card text. "Slifer the Sky Dragon powered up 3X for every card in own hand." Other highlights of that game include how bad the deck capacity system is, making the game extremely grindy and how enemies in the final area have 10000+ LP. Despite how tedious Reshef is, I take pride that I beat it multiple times. Because Sacred Cards was too easy and too short, Reshef is a favorite of mine. My dream game would be Sacred Cards with a difficulty increase. But Reshef does feel more RPG-like and less Yu-Gi-Oh like with the lack of healing between duels, and I found having to tutle to protect my LP to stall for a healing card an interesting strategic necessity. Thankfully, the modding community has fixed Reshef to get rid of the cursor checks, but still allow Continuous Effects, enabled starting duels at 8000 LP without needing to go home to heal and made the deck capacity system less grinding. Look up "Reshef is Actually Tolerable Now".
I loved Sacred Cards, tbh. Actually just played it again, and had it beat by the end of the night lol. But i can see why many people didnt like it. the duels were weird fs
I definitely agree. Modern yugioh games have a higher card count but the final DS and PSP games have a ton more variety and customization when it comes to the actual gameplay.
I've mainly played world wide edition on GBA, and I always felt like the ai let you win sometimes and other times just stomped the shit outta you even when you had a amazing starting hand. For reshef of destruction I had a players guide just cause of how stupid it was to not only be limited but opponents aren't but the whole you had to actually heal after each battle.
I just want to play yugioh preferably a real gameplay oriented with the most card polls, i don't care about stories 🙂 so what is the best out of this list? Duelist soul?
The only thing I can say against the GX game is that the PSP GX game is essentially the same thing but with better graphics. And the PSP emulator runs great. This comes from someone who grew up with the gba game but never owned a psp.
Really sad how the poor implementation in Reshef overshadowed what could’ve otherwise been the hardest game in the series and would’ve been so much more enjoyable than forbidden memories
What baffles me about WC 2004 is how random the 3 decks the game gives to you at the start I swear to god, the cards you get with those decks are so weird, there's no strategy, it's full RNG madness, not to mention this game is full of those cards that are complete bullshit like Yado Karou, Dark Artist, and a random ass Stamping Destruction with no dragons to use with whatsoever 2004 still has the best music in the whole gba Yugioh catalog, and at least it's not the buggy mess that WC 2005 is
I remember owning WCT 2004 and unlocking everything the old fashioned way. I hated nearly every single moment of it as a kid. I was wondering why the AI were not following the Limit List rules and some to get access to them for a while require you to omit cards from your deck; to duel Mai, you can’t have Feather Duster, to duel Kaiba, you can’t have Blue-Eyes, etc. It was only a couple, but was nearly nothing compared to the grinding for a chance at one of the final dualists by having to farm a weaker version five times first. The pack RNG tore me apart trying to get everything unlocked. I also remember there was a glitch where one of the cards could be added to a deck more than three times. My mind says *Sword of Deep-Seated* was what it was, but I don’t specifically remember except there were six copies in the deck, lol.
The occasional language slip up makes it obvious that he is a yugioh player turned MTG player. The use of the words ‘creature’ and ‘library’ gave it away.
Great video! Honestly it's surprising how much variety there is in these games and not everyone is just a duel simulator
Dungeon Dice Monsters was my jam
What a coincidence, I just recently bought my first Gameboy color and got the dark duel game for only 5 bucks with it :D
I cannot express how nostalgic most of these games are, but ESPECIALLY duel academy. my god I played that for LIFETIMES
Peak comfy
So much replayability

Remember playing it back a few years ago, and was indeed really fun
Is it the 1 with the rare hunters walking around I didn't get to finish it

Great stuff! Love videos about GBC/GBA games and then it's Yu-Gi-Oh! as well? Awesome:)
DUEL MONSTER 6 is the same as stairway but was the uncensors version i have it cartrige
This was such an excellent video! I really enjoyed watching through all of this. I’m currently going through a nostalgia kick and playing my old GBA games again. I don’t own a Yugioh game, but I have a soft spot for the GX cards and anime, so I might have to pick that up somewhere
Also unrelated - but have you played any of the 3 English Duel Masters GBA games and would you recommend any of them?
Bro, DDM was so easy to beat the AI, just spam low summon, straight line to them, and cut off any room for them to summon. When I figured that out, it was Joever
Sub count should he much higher for such a well spoken, well made video. Subscribed

Yugioh marathon is in the works, gen six is up next, then DS then PSP (it’s gonna take me a while)
Didnt know Dark Duel Stories had the same OST as forbidden memories but in 8bit!
honestly these still hold up so well... hope that rumor of these getting ported to a collection is true 😭

Dark Duel stories music sound like forbidden memories. Interesting.
they came out at the same time I think. I know its been a year but incase you see it lol

It’s great to see so many manga only characters here.

Watching this because I remember a game where you fight a different dressed Pegasus and you could only save in your house.
That sounds like Reshef of Destruction. It’s super grindy. Im playing it for the first time.
I've put probably hundreds of hours into Eternal Duelist Soul over the years but really never played any of the other games. Think I'm gonna have to give Stairway and 2004 a shot

I still have my GBA and Dungeon Dice Monsters
I actually never knew until i looked it up cause i vividly remembered Worldwide edition being released before SC and RoD but SC and RoD were actually released a year after the japanese release and Worldwide was released in NA BEFORE the japanese release by like a couple of weeks
I think I played a romhack of a tournament title back in the day because I don’t have the same 2005 copy like I remembered playing

Good news is that most of them are getting a rerelease via the Early Days Collection in 2025.

The only way i got through reshef was the "actually tolerable now edition" mod. Went from one of my least favorites to being in my top 3
I loved Sacred Cards, tbh. Actually just played it again, and had it beat by the end of the night lol. But i can see why many people didnt like it. the duels were weird fs
I remember thinking it was so cool I could actually load my deck I owned in real life into the game
I had most of these games and they were awesome
Great video I love thse games ❤
thinking of getting that Yugioh game on the Switch
11:31 ...did I just see Naruto??
Ninja Deck 😂
Helios monster came with World championship 2006 right? does that mean you have to buy the game 3x if you want to use Helios cards in a real deck?
I didn’t own 2006 new as a kid so I’m unsure…but I do remember clearly getting “Skull Dice” with my copy of EDS
Looks like they were exclusive to that game until 2008 when 2 of them were included in a structure deck and the other in a champion pack
2011 Over the Nexus on DS and Tag Force 5 or 6 (English Patch) on PSP are the best ones. It all went to hell after those.
Super excited to get to the next handheld generation. I’ve got some console games to play before I get there though

Yugioh DS 5DS's games are what you want then
@@sarthakarora3212 I’m also partial to the OG rules
2006 was so good
sucks that the early days doesn't get dx duel academy or 2006... 2006 was the best game on gba.
