    I owned a mk1 but sold it years ago because I found it frustrating that there was only one stereo output. This one fixed that. I just ordered a mk2. Such an amazing synth. I’ve realised it’s an amazing partner for my Rytm.

    Late to the party. Didnt realize the capabilities of this thing. I just saw 4 voices and the price tag and dismissed it. But having two Elektron 'Takts I'm loving Elektron products. This has made me take a second gander at this synth.

    @Loopop your videos are always extremely well done, even after 6 years, the best A4 tutorial around. Clear, high pedagogical level, straight to the point and accessible to beginners or pro level. Very needed especially since the Elektron's manuals are well known to be as easy to read as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. Thanks a ton!

    Not sure why the A4 is so unpopular. But glad I bought mine for $500 from someone who didn't get it.
    It's a modular in a box, with full sequenced control of almost every parameter.
    Not sure why you can't Plock the arp settings.
    You know, for ratcheting and other range/time fun things?
    That would make it such an unbeatable synth!

      Sat next to my Prophet 6 my A4Mk2 feels pathetic and weak and sounds thin. Likely heading for sale.

    • @TheRealDanMac
      @TheRealDanMac 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sonic Neutronic I was thinking the same at first,
      but I’ve since reorganised the presets and installed new sounds..
      it can do some really good bass and the drums are just amazing with the sequencer.
      The default presets are a bit to random and weird.
      Im really happy with it now. Only thing that could make it better is more voices

    • @TheRealDanMac
      @TheRealDanMac 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sonic Neutronic I can agree that it’s not that fattest sounding synth ever my monologue sounds bigger with less effort.
      but half it’s appeal is it’s sequencing, you could make a whole track with just the synth alone if you really tried with p locks, scale per track etc etc..
      I could understand if you sold it because you wanted a different sound, less midrange type sound. but it’s certainly a capable synth..
      but think it won’t be long and you will be missing the digitone and Octatrack 😢

    • @TheRealDanMac
      @TheRealDanMac 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sonic Neutronic I don’t get what you mean about the sequencer bit, elektron gear has overbridge with multitrack recording over USB and each elektron box provides an extra stereo input into ableton for other gear. And the digitakt has the same effects as digitone.
      Anyhow Each to their own... elektron gear is quality IMO

    • @messer21
      @messer21 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sonic Neutronic imo you can’t compare the P6 and the A4. They both have strong and week points. Things you can do on one you can’t do on another.

    About the Sub-Osc: Can you also choose a different shape? And does that mean you could play up to 16 oscillators when using this technique (4x4)? Is there perhaps a hack to play the sub individually (or change the offset value on keypress/trig).. i guess it can be 4x fixed chords that won't make much sense musically, but perhaps you could make a huge detuned super saw work out, and for a evolving pad sound with multiple stages. Hmm. Interesting. Can't wait to test that.

    How would you rate the Elektron Analog 4 versus the wave table synths like Access Virus TI2 and Waldorf Blowfeld? Better or just different? If you had to pick one what would you get and why?

      No worries, I am happy so far with my new A4. It is easier to work with than the confusing menu system of the Virus or the Blofeld. Plus it plays well with Eurorack gear. I love the wave forms features. Easy to make bass, trance, drums, weird noises. I layer reverb and chorus on top of the 0-coast and it sounds really rich. The Virus is 2x as much as the A4 and I really don't see it sounding any better from my experience. Blofeld is good value and I would get one for wave table synthesis as it has those wave tables the A4 is missing.

    Hi. Appreciate the great videos and insight as always. Hope I'm not abusing comments by asking for your advice on Analog Four MKII here. I wonder how you'd compare or choose between Analog Four MKII and Novation Peak? I'm curious which one you personally prefer or like/enjoy more (subjectively).
    To provide some context, I currently own the Digitone & Digitakt duo, and I'm interested/tempted to add an analog synth to my collection as well. Of all the options, Analog Four and Peak appeal to me the most. I'm still relatively new to synthesis, but have learned a lot of theory in the past year. Unfortunately, I haven't put it to practice much for designing my own sounds, perhaps because FM is still intimidating and doesn't come naturally. In contrast, I think especially with Peak's layout, it would be hard not to design/tweak your own sounds.
    Here are a few key factors that make the decision challenging ...
    Peak (Pros/Cons):
    + Hands-on controls, logical layout, everything in view
    + More oscillator options and wavetables
    - Digital oscillators
    - Not multitimbral
    - Not playable standalone (without another keyboard or sequencer)
    Analog Four (Pros/Cons):
    + Analog oscillators
    + Multitimbral
    + Sequencer and keyboard
    - All sound design is done through a small screen
    - Too much overlap with other Elektron boxes in terms of sequencing capabilities (Advantage: Familiarity, Disadvantage: Lack of diversification)
    Apologies for the long comment, but I'm struggling with the decision. Would appreciate your thoughts and advice.
    Thank you!

    • @loopop

      My advice is to do the research (which you are) because these decisions are always so personal - no one can make the decision for you IMHO, especially with such different products

    • @a_shoja
      @a_shoja 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loopop Thanks, appreciate the advice. Will continue researching and thinking. The ultimate criteria for me is the amount of time I spent with the synth. That's why I'm leaning toward Analog Four. And I know you highly recommend it :)

    A very simple question: how do you save a song, a piece composed and arranged on the analogue four? Since we do not talk about Overbridge. Thanks for the info

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean how to create a song chain or how to move it to a computer? Assuming the latter, overbridge doesn’t help you much - if you have an audio interface then you can just sample the output. If not, join elektron’s overbridge beta - I think that part already works

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      richieAnimation thanks! I think an MK1 is better than no A4 at all for sure.... I really like the screen and buttons on this one - more comfortable and less noisy. Also, I have a particular type of color blindness where I can’t tell the red/green on the old A4 but can on this one for some odd reason. The new inputs are cool too. The overdrive and bass on this one are great but I liked the MK1’s sound a lot too. So... bottom line MK2 is better - but MK1 kicks ass too....

    • @CarlMikaelBjork

      Money aside - yes it's a step up. Most definitely. Adjusted filter and overdrive that goes further. The dedicated buttons and increased surface/UI area is valuable to me. Control pedal/CV input is cool. Making economic decisions for someone else is hard, though. ;-)

      Carl Mikael's Cabinet of Curiosities I'm a novice and wanted to invest in some quality hardware. Faced with the same economic issues, I simply saved up. Also I looked at age and depreciation. Mk1 has been out 5 years so I thought about the Mkii 5 years down the line v 10 years? Plus the Mkii for me seemed easier to use and looks fantastic and Is so much fun.

      Elektron gear holds up pretty well in value compared to most other brands. Old 10 year old Machine Drum Elektron are selling for $600+ still and that is OLD tech compared to new gear.
