    my favorite thing about elektron gear is that once you learn one, learning others goes way faster bc of the constant similarities. Like how every sequencer essentially operates the same way.

    Just bought this model and upgraded from the MK1. I'm loving the new features but the old ones are just as good. Noticing different sound and just better at modern sounding clean noises. Elektron always makes the best drum machines in my opinion and I've really latched onto these. I use this in my every day... all day.... It's the workhorse that we need in the studio.

  • @stossbeats
    @stossbeats 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I appreciate seeing you review this, though I think the Rytm is a tough instrument for you to cover in your typical format, mostly because of how deep it is. I’ve spent years with the Rytm and only recently decided to dedicate myself to mastering the analog drum circuits. They are extremely capable of reproducing many analog sounds, particularly when skillfully combined with the filter, overdrive and LFO for modulation. Given where I’m currently at I feel like you kind of glossed over this machines analog drum capabilities, which is a shame, because I actually think that is where it really shines. Its dual VCA synth capabilities are one of my least favorite aspects, yet they always seem highly attractive to new users.

    I've owned a mkii for a few years now, but damn this walkthrough is incredibly refreshing as I often stuck in the rytm (hehe) of NOT utilizing a majority of the powerful features that make this machine special. Thank you thank you loopop!

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Similar story here. I've had a Digitakt for years, but I find I almost never use most of its features. They're kind of neat to have, but typically aren't what I need. Most of what I want is to lay down a rhythm quickly, adjust the timbres to fit the song, and then record it and a few variations into my DAW.
      Elektron devices can certainly do those things, and a whole lot more... but I often get the feeling, while I'm scrolling through sounds or manually copying settings between patterns, that I could probably get the same things done faster and easier with a cheaper device. The extra features end up slowing me down.
      Like, I can't just sit down, create a new project, and start making beats. The workflow requires me to spend a bunch of time building a drum kit first, which is not what I want to be doing at the time. I can't just lay down some beats and then scroll through kits later to find one which fits. It doesn't even have a concept of kits. Then later, after making a bunch of patterns, if I want to adjust my kit... it has to be adjusted manually for each sound in each pattern.
      So I've been thinking about selling it and replacing it with a Drumbrute or something. I'd lose a bunch of features, but I mostly don't use those features anyway, and it would speed up my core workflow.

      @Sadows12 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ToyKeeper I mean if you aren't enjoying the workflow, just get another drum machine/sampler when you get the chance. No reason to sit here and be disappointed about your hardware! It should be fun :)

      @@ToyKeeperI'm a 100% with you there. Elektrons are much too deep for my workflow, and each time I try one (except maybe for the Model Samples & Cycles). I find myself disturbed and lost by all the possibilities.. It's counter benefic for me to play music on these, instead I scroll everywhere, try stuff, get lost, loose the creative vibe.. One of the best sketch pad in the recent offers is the Roland JDXi.. Well, I would like it to be a bit more in depth to be honest..If Roland could make an upgraded JDXi, I'd be interested

      @@ToyKeeper oh thanks for the reply. Interesting. Can you build patterns and tweak parts typically like a Groovebox? I'm searching for that old school vibe you had on the first Roland and Korg Grooveboxes. And I must say I don't like the Elektron sound, too hifi European techno for me.. A mix of cold and high end (opposed to lofi) that to my ears is more for landscape robotic stuff

    Awesome jam, boss!!!
    The Rytm is my personal fav drum machine, I have an MK1 and I like the way Elektron update the firmware for both the MK1 and MK2. Elektron and maybe Novation, are very good at keeping their existing customers happy, it certainly garners brand loyalty. Having said that I'm not sure I would want to spend the extra at this point to get sampling (I use an OctaTrack for that, which I bought after my experience using the Rytm).
    I do feel that the black edition is possibly a swan song, and that something new and shiny is in the pipeline.

    Bought a new Rytm MK2 this week after spending time using a friend's and my favorite drum synth so far and easy to get great tracks built. I love modular drums but the workflow is hard to beat and drum pads nice touch. Good holiday sale helped me choose over Perkons that costs more and does less. Agree the sampler is ok but I have a Roland SP 404 MK2 and Elektron Octatrack for those tasks. I would sample modular drums into the Rytm and save need to haul cases of gear to a gig. This Rytm and an SP 404 can do shows with ease.

    It’s nice to have a channel doing such a good content.
    I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak.
    I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds.
    When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap.
    I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power.
    In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with.
    What would be your suggestion?
    Thank you!

    Machinedrum, Monomachine, Octatrack, Analog Four and Analog Rytm...all machines are over 10 years old (or very near to it) and IMO nobody has gotten close to topping the capabilities, immediacy of these wonderful boxes. Rytm is STILL the best drum machine on the market!
