Hey Bathaniel! I am kind of known in the competitive MK community as the backwards guy, I have most the WRs for completing tracks backwards.
there are quite a few tracks that are possible here (150cc & 200cc) that you didn't figure out:
Coconut Mall
Snow Land
Mushroom Gorge
Boo Lake
Waluigi Stadium
Also, before wave 4 came out, Choco Mountain, Tokyo Blur, Sky Garden and Ninja Hideaway were all possible until nintendo changed the properties of respawn points.

Yeah I've done WS and Snow land, although I've done Snow land in 200cc

@@DiceHeadOstrichIsverystupid basically you go forward and back pass the same checkpoint a lot of times before triggering lakitu
explanation for the tour cities/ds peach gardens/n64 kalimari desert:
the lap-based changes work by hitting certain checkpoints in the level, making the route change every lap. and these are in a specific rotation throughout laps 1-3. so they start with the lap 1 route, then lap 2, then lap 3 and it then loops around back to lap 1. and by logic if you drive backwards at the start, you need to start with lap 3 backwards first. so basically Tokyo, New York, London, Amsterdam and Bangkok as well as Kalimari Desert it would technically work, with some of them having only ramps as a problem.
the other cities and peach gardens all have their third laps ending backwards into the finish line, which means if you would turn around at the start, you would just be past lap 3, there is "no way" there in which you would drive backwards in lap 3 because you drive in the other direction :)

8:30 it is possible, actually. you just gotta align your kart in a better angle (like 45 degrees) and you can clear this jump.

If you go backwards right at the start of the race, the track always activates the 3rd lap.
I’ve done Choco Mountain backwards, it’s possible. You have to get the right angle.

Mushroom gorge is too
Choco mountain isn't possible anymore, it was possible pre wave 4 but not anymore
Riverside Park's behind the waterfall is just the track. You actually drive under the waterfall before entering the cave that leads you to the jump. You can even see it in the minimap.
Wait I thought NB already did waves 1-4 backwards in his BCP streams.

Fun fact: mushroom gorge is possible on 200cc! I did it myself :)
Also,with LL and AD,when you go backwards you do the laps in backwards order. In London Loop after you finish the race,you start from lap one again and sane with Amsterdam,so you will start with lap 3 when going backwards! (Then 2 then 1) LL’s Lap 2 is not possible but if you finish lap 1 then go backwards,then 1 is possible.
AD’s Lap 1 AND 2 are impossible. Forgot that Bangkok rush had the same treatment lol. But 3 and 2 are not possible. Lap 1 *might* be but I can’t remember tbh so ye

Actually, most of these tracks are possible backwards but you need to be on 200cc. here are the ones I was able to do backwards on waves 1-4. 3DS Toad circuit, DS shroom ridge, SNES Mario circuit 3, N64 Kalimari desert, GBA snow land, WII mushroom gorge, DS mario circuit, and GCN waluigi stadium. everyone should try the tracks in waves 1-4, and make sure you are on 200cc. you can do that by pressing x when it asks you if you want to race a ghost in time trial mode. I looked on youtube for several videos of completions of tracks like snow land and mushroom gorge. I highly recomend trying snow land backwards because its actually really easy to get past the jump once you know where to go. and now, im going back to my switch to use my 1787th attempt on GBA boo lake, (the jump in the middle is super annoying lol).
Seeing this just makes me hope that Nintendo will add a Reverse mode/cup in like in Tour (maybe even Trick variants too?)
I actually do have a list of things I would like to see either added in 8 or the (when it arrives) new MK game.
I also did NOT know about using the right stick to go forwards/backwards!
The inclusion of backwards mode and backwards mirror mode, along with mirror mode as choices independent from the speed class options, is what I'd like to see!

Paris Promenade goes backwards on lap 3 as well as Peach Gardens

Choco Mountain, Coconut Mall, Sky Garden, Ninja Hideaway, Snow Land, Mushroom Gorge, London Loop, Boo Lake, DK Summit (possibly, using a glitch on the halfpipes where you glide through the air) are all possible
If Diddy Kong dosent make it into MK8DX, people will revolt!

YOOOOOOO, ORANGE BIRDO REPRESENT! Fun fact: Birdo was originally depicted as orange on the original Famicom Disk System cover art of Doki Doki Panic, and even had a red bow just like the one in 8 Deluxe!
One way to play these tracks backwards is to play the “R” variant of each of them on MarioKart Tour. 😉

I think for the Tour tracks you should try and see what happens when you drive two or three laps backwards, because of the way the tracks change.
London and Amsterdam go as far back as Lap 2

@@markerikson7423 I only focus on the sdrakwcab tts that focuses on the speedrun category (hence why my dlc pbs kinda sucks) when I say it is possible 3 laps I mean every barrier has been solved and uses less than 3 shrooms (and doesn't require different builds)
Berlin is possible on lap 3
i could see them making it to where you have to get a golden trophy in all the cups to unlock the final character
Coconut mall is actually possible it just takes about 30 seconds to get the right spot so lakitu lifts you back up to the ending ramp
I would love seeing a mod, that makes all tracks playable backwards
Nintendo should make it so mirror mode can be done on any speed class, along with adding backwards mode and backwards mirror mode. I'd like to see that!

The ones that respawn u when going backwards is because u finish the race backwards, besides Tokyo Blur. Thats just because the checkpoints r placed on the toll gate part. So that does make sense foe ones like Peach Gardens. And it activates the 3rd lap stuff because ur in the 3rd lap checkpoints, since all of the city Tour tracks r sectional technically
Some of the tracks would be possible if Lakitu was deleted

If you move In Reverse I think you can do those city tracks like Paris Promenade
It's been a hot minute since these backwards videos came back.
Quite unfortunate, if you made this video pre wave 4 you would of gotten a few more tracks done
(For example choco mountain use to be possible)
So some others have done the courses and off the top of my head both mushroom gorge and boo lake are possible if you know what you are doing.
Also the tour tracks activate the 3rd lap set when going backwards and I think its loaded in order then resets so going backwards is essentially driving the 3rd lap

You only did one lap when the route changes each lap. Your supposed to do the whole thing to check if it's doable or not.

After many tries, I actually managed to do Waluigi Stadium backwards.
When you go backwards, the race activates the end of the 3rd lap. On tracks ending backwards (Peach Gardens, Paris Promenade, Sydney Sprint, Berlin Byways, Singapore Speedway), the game thinks you aren't on the track because it wants you to go on the backwards 3rd lap... which starts the same way as forwards lap 1. That's why the game puts you back on the right way.
For Tokyo Blur, it is because the final lap ends on a gliding section coming from above, unlike laps 1 and 2. The game thinks you are behind the arrows so Lakitu puts you back on the right way.

It’s crazy how much these feel like Tour’s R variants.
Boo Lake is possible too. Use a mushroom where you got stuck and make Lakitu put you on the higher platform then using the blocks to hop onto the big platform above. There are a few more but just use the blocks to get above them.
(Sigh) Bathaniel, there’s a simple solution to the City tracks: do a lap first.

If i had to guess for some of the impossible tracks specifically the ones that have different laps the game doesn't know what lap you're technically on while for some of the others it sends you to 3rd lap the others make the game think "what lap should the player be on" so you'd have to register that you have cleared the checkpoints for a lap to be able to drive the track backwards if you don't the game tells lakitu to send you back the proper way you should be going
I wonder if for the tour tracks, if there's something to do with going backwards into the lap checkpoints that cause the route to change forces you to go forward into them instead or have it break like kalimari did
The not letting you go backwards thing is on tracks where the final lap goes backwards into the goal

You mean go backwards right before the glider ramp? I think that'll defeat the purpose of you do that.
@@spidersquid8 no, what I mean is that in the first two laps, go to the area before you taken by lakitu. Then, go backwards from there.
the first jump in waluigi stadium is possible you just gotta jump at some freaky angle to do it

The most interesting parts of this video were how London amd Amsterdam were doable albeit nobody expected it at this point and Nintendo really cracked down on Peach's Castlegarden.
It is possible on Waluigi Stadium by choosing a fast one and collecting enough coins you can do it.

Actually Coconut Mall is possible by repeatedly banging into the wall then lakitu will put you up top.
Snow Land is also possible by using a mushroom to get over there.
I don’t think London Loop is possible, until you go through all three laps. Due to how the track constantly changes.
Was you running 200cc? Might have been able to get closer to the cave on choco mountain and the wind jump on shroom ridge?

Guess what!? I actually beat mushroom gorge backwards in MK8DX! So the trick is to get as far back as possible and then use the mushroom and then jump at the same time.
i think the tour tracks don’t work because the original game was only meant as an auto racer with no backwards mode implemented

With the tour tracks, you should play the whole course and before you cross the finish line, turn around and play the whole course backwards. I tried this once and the only course that is possible like this is Berlin Byways.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the tracks that have lap changes get patched up to no longer be playable to drive backwards.
