all the heavy duty axles are like that cause like u said it crushes the bearings drill a slight divot like the pin but not all the way thought it for the set screw.
Glad I found this video as I had a look at my stampede with the same shafts and had the same problem. Managed to fix it with the washers the original drive shafts bring, I'm too lazy for all the grinding lol. Made a quick vid.
Hey Kev i noticed there was a washer missing from behind the hex traxxas has a standard shim on the outside behind the old pin that would stop the bearings from binding :)
I've experienced the same problem and this spacer helps alot. Some BMX bikes use a spacer similar to this in between sealed bottom bracket bearings on spline drive 3pc cranks like Profile racing. Cheers
GPM steel shafts are almost identical to these, the wheel hex cant slide back all the way though. The flat section of the axel stops it before it contacts the bearings
I had the same issue with my MIP X-duty axles on my stampede 4x4. The spacers they included didn't fit right and I ended up using the inner race out of some old bearings. I had to do the same thing on some integy rockers on my revo's, or they bound up when tightening down the screw that holds them on.
Hey Kev love all your videos mate i bought a rustler 4x4 vxl brushless due to your durability tests..... id like to know good the shafts are your using in this video as im looking to upgrade from traxxas rustler slash steel axles to these....thankyou keep up the amazing work ive learnt a ton of knowledge from you cheers for that....Rob
i fell like its the hex on the outsider causing the binding not the 2 bearings on eachother why not try putting the the skinny spacer between the hex and hub.
Are these driveshafts any good?? I bought some cheap steel ones off eBay for my Pede and they're hopeless - one of the pins pushed through the retaining wire and gouged the suspension arm. I see the fastrax ones use the same wire? And all this business of having to mod them to fit and grub screws on splines - it's just nasty! I just wish the official Traxxas CVDs didn't cost over 70 blinking quid! Can't find the MIP ones in stock in the UK either. I'm starting to think I might just put a new set of the stock shafts on mine - at least they're cheap and light?!
They will work if you’re not running higher than 3s. They have GPM ones which are the same on Amazon. But I recommend MIP x duty axles they come with spacers so this problem doesn’t arise. .
@4.16 looks right ........ @0.42 looks wrong? Only an observation dont hate me :) Or am i completely wrong and the new hex hubs are the same either way round i.e that little lip?
Considering the money we pay for these upgrades this is a shit design. Can't believe these companies and get away with selling stuff at the prices they do without doing proper research and development to ensure the end user doesn't have these issues.

Hey I was thinking washers would probably work! Glad to know it does! 😄

Yesss!!! More rustler videos!!!

Are gpm shafts better?
This is old, but a few washers on the back of the stub axel works as well to pull the sub axle in a little, a lot less play.
Just drill the after market one and run the stock pin
Brilliant! Defeniently deserve a thumbs up!
Nice solution to a problem that should never exist! Now i cant wait to see you take it out and break them before the battery runs out 😂 like i did 👍👊
Hey kevin, in the future i maybe want to start my own rc shop to. What is the best way to start? Or how did you start?

You need to drill a small hole on the flat spot of the axle so the grub screw can lock in and prevent it from sliding back into your bearings
The MIP x duty drive shafts did the same thing and they have a spacer between the bearings. Like u added. Anymore ideas?

Love your videos
Cool, perfect, fast, easy, and it works great. Good enough for the track. Good job bro'
Do they still make the proline bulldog body???
MK films, sadly not, but you can probably find it online still.
I'm tying to find good working drive shafts for my rustler and I don't know what to choose integety or mip or fastrax?
i fell like its the hex on the outsider causing the binding not the 2 bearings on eachother why not try putting the the skinny spacer between the hex and hub.
What Wheels are under that car? I like them
Hey Kevin what do you think of a traxxas e-maxx
I would give a thumbs up if you would have filmed driving it KEVIN!
Dude, where do you get your hex drivers from? The ones you put in your Dewalt. I imagine they're 1.5mn to 3mm?
have a look at my tools video dude :)
How come u didn't put spacers on out side
Nowadays, this would be.... BOOM!!!!

Are these reliable shafts ? Im tired of braking my stock plastic ones smh

Having that same problem with mine. Mip X duty on a 2wd slash
Where can i get those driveshafts?
Next level fidget spinner
Nice vid
There's no way fastrax doesn't know about this problem. Other axle kits have the spacers. Like the mip ones
Nate 07
It's a RPM hub.. MIP's need a similar mod to run with RPM hubs
Nate 07
RPM fit their hubs tighter to take wheel wobble
Nvm. I had no clue rpm hubs are that different lol. I thought the only difference was the material its made out of.
Do a 1/8 scale E REVO!!!!!!!! great video i subscribed as well
You must have a shit ton of money to have a couple x maxxes and upgrading a rustler like that...
is it just me or is the adio really low
There's a typo in the title . It's should be "making them work" not "the". But still a great video
Thank you so much!!!!!!!,!!!!!!!!
Man have you ever tried to get a Rc car but you don't have no money to buy one all the time I think I will never get one
the hex nut looked like it was on the wrong way round
@4.16 looks right ........ @0.42 looks wrong? Only an observation dont hate me :)
Or am i completely wrong and the new hex hubs are the same either way round i.e that little lip?
What's the part number for hex you used for those tires
I was hoping you'd allow me time to deal with this before posting a video............
You should pin the first comments
I’m the first comment in over a year
i would have drilled the shaft so the grub screw has a recess to seat into
Get a traxxas Teton!
AKA: Latrax Teton
Traxxas #1951R
