    I LOVE videos like this! I've been "head canoning" in the Elite galaxy since the '80s, and am always hungry for anything that adds more depth to this fascinating universe, so thank you!
    Two things jump out at me:
    1) It never really occurred to me that Lave Station is over 500 years old! Probably not a single original part left in her, but it's always stuck me as odd how long certain organizations, locations, and ship designs persist in Elite.
    2) This vid seems to state that the Quirium drive predates the Faraway network. Is that right? It seems backwards. I was under the impression that Faraway was used by the very first FTL-capable ships, requiring that a Faraway station be established at the destination pointbeforehand, presumably by conventional sub-light means. Wasn't the lack of need for this one of the reasons why Quirium dominated? Or was Quirium technology simply not available outside GalCop?
    BTW, I love the idea that GalCop star charts omitted Fed and Imperial systems. Excellent retcon!

    • @drewwagar
      @drewwagar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quirium is exclusive to GalCop and wasn't available to the Federation or the Empire, the secret of its use being lost when GalCop fell. The Quirium hyperspace drive wasn't available prior to the "Faraway" system, as the limiting factors were the size and modularity of hyperspace technology, which remained a problem until the 28th century. Quirium was a power source prior to this point though. The "Faraway" system did indeed need stations at the destination though, meaning it was very expensive and complex to set up in the first place. Once the navigation issues of hyperspace travel were cracked in the late 31st century, the "Faraway" system became obsolete.

    • @Datan0de
      @Datan0de 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drewwagar Ah! That makes perfect sense. Thank you for the reply! I'd never considered the use of Quirium outside of FTL travel before.

  • @Brakidoo
    @Brakidoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seriously, I've had it on my Xbox since probably when it first released but it was so complicated and back then the tutorials were links to TH-cam videos that weren't very... Comprehensive.
    About 2 months ago I got tired of No Man's Sky and it's essentially endless plotline and tried to pick up elite again. Games MUCH better and tutorial missions exist BUT the biggest thing that got me playing again was the ED community! I literally don't even have Xbox live Gold at the moment so I'm playing solo, but the sheer amount of support, information, walkthroughs, tips, summaries, and lore videos just really complete this game! Without it I think it would just be another dead space simulator with untapped potential.
    I went from being a novice commander who couldn't get flight assist back on to stop bumping into my first space station.... Lol to being a decently equipped commander who knows how to use road to riches on major trips and cruise the neutron highway - and I owe it all to he amazing community of commanders that literally MAKE this game more playable.
    These lore videos especially just drive me to go back into my ship and take on the cosmos.
    I'm not a super lazy gamer. I'll read the small detail text and never skip any side cutscene or text just in fear of missing some juicy context.
    But even then I was finding the entirety of the ED lore impossible to digest. Too much blur between what's game controlled events and community triggered events from after the game was out.
    Long winded paragraph aside I just wanted to say Thank You Drew. ❤️ Amazing job mate 👌🏽

  • @darkheavyeight9431

    @drew Love your work and commitment to this game, but I've gotta ask where "definitive" comes from - Cannon? FDEV approved? not retconned? etc.and also if that basis for this video will be the basis for similar videos to come.

    • @drewwagar
      @drewwagar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitive in the sense that I've cross referenced all available canon material; historic, in-game and citable. I've removed information that is unreliable, can't be verified or is contradictory. I've removed fan speculation both old and current. Is it Fdev approved? No. But as they haven't curated their lore, this is far more accurate than anything else available until such time as they decide (if they ever do) to produce an authoritative version. Definitely more videos to come. :)

    • @darkheavyeight9431
      @darkheavyeight9431 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Drew Wagar: Which year did the first FSD jump drive appear? Iam trying to find Raxxla and it seems that the jump type FSD was later than 2296. If only large ships had the supercruise FSD drive and most likely a small ship was the one that find Raxxla. It means it has to be a planet INSIDE a system since if it was a large ship we would have more information about it(people talk)

    • @drewwagar
      @drewwagar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The FSD first appeared in 3297. If you're referring to the first hyperspace jump itself, there is no particular date I'm afraid, but it would have been towards the end of the 22nd century or early 23rd.

    What I still don't understand about the Empire is if "Female children in the family were prevented with genetic techniques", how did Hengist Duval and Florence Lavigny have Arissa (Born 3243). Not to mention how did Harold Duval and Imogen Gabrielini have Aisling.

    • @drewwagar
      @drewwagar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Essentially there was, up until recent years, a "favoured line" within the Duval Dynasty that was pruned for only male descendants. It was actually the birth of Harold Duval that partly put paid to this, as he wasn't intelligent enough to pick up the mantle of Emperor, despite being the 'correct' genetic descendant. Thus the Empire was forced to look around at closely related "unpruned" family members for the succession.
