Dog trainer insults GREYHOUNDS on news channel. He is so wrong!!!

  • An Australian dog trainer wrongly claims greyhounds are boring on National television. This is so damaging to the reputation of the greyhound breed. There are so many injured racing greyhounds in rescue centres that need rehoming and this sort of comment doesn’t help the situation. This video shows that greyhounds are not boring dogs with clips of Fairy being her amazing self and hopefully will encourage people to adopt them.

    I'm not surprised by this person's commitment on a breed of canine that most people know nothing about except that they are bred for racing. He obviously has very little experience with the breed and their qualities , befriending them and growing their confidence in you as their trainer/ owner.
    Your videos of Fairy describe the breed opposite and in total contradiction to this man's comments. FAIRY ,the greyhound is a reflection of her owners qualities and patience.
    Qualities that sadly are missing in this young man's character and capabilities.
    Happy adventures,you beautiful girl.
    To you, Fairy's Mum, be proud of your achievements. I know Fairy is. ❤❤❤

    I’m glad you brought this up. I was so upset when I heard that is so-called dog expert said the greyhounds are boring. There are so many greyhounds that need to be adopted. They’re not like other dogs. And I have to admit mine are pretty boring sometimes! But they’re wonderful companions. You’re lucky you have so many places time to let her off the lead and things like dog agility to keep her active and entertained.

    I am in awe as well. Watching this greyhound sail through the air just "tickles my innards" (American idiom). I have had 2 rescued greyhounds & neither was a bore. In fact, both had higher IQ's than what this trainer exhibits!!!

    Greyhounds dont need a Dog trainer when they are a family Pet. Yes, they sleep a lot, but when they are outdoors, they love to run and play chase aftef a ball like most breed's. They are well mannered, calm, NEVER jump up on people. A Behaviour I can't tolerate. I would never have another Breed. Once a Greyhound Lover, always a Greyhound Lover. 😍 Wonderful, loyal, noble Hounds. Fairy is a hoot 😆

    Years ago, I adopted a pair (unrelated) of retired racing rescues, who I named Bobo and Timmy. They were the sweetest, and funniest, boys. Timmy was unusually tall, even for a greyhound, and when he got the zoomies, he'd cover the whole living room in about one and a half strides. It was quite a sight. Bobo like to chase his ball incessantly. The two of them loved attention, and Timmy in particular would burrow his head into my side to get close for ear scratches. I still miss them dearly.

    I never knew anything about Greyhounds until I worked in a kennels that housed ex-racers. They are far from boring. Most of the time they are really well behaved and easy BUT they have the absolute best quirks and character traits. Their personality and some of the things they do really stand out from each-other and make them unique; I never met 2 Greyhounds that were the same or similar.
    Unlike other breeds where most of them have similar characteristic and behaviours, I think all Greyhounds are very different from each-other. Breeds such as Labradors, Springer/Cocker Spaniels, GSD; it's pretty predictable what temperament you will get. But not with a Greyhound. Some will e complete lunatics, some will be chilled, others are really reactive and noisy, others just quiet and don't bark at anything. Some are really confident and jump in your face, others will roll on their back. Some will ALWAYS have their toy in their mouth, others just don't care for them.
    All dogs have personalities, but I have never seen such a range as I have with Greyhounds.

    • @cmhanson
      @cmhanson 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Common sense dictates that if one knows their dog has high prey drive, keep them on leash! Both greys that I rescued were very timid dogs & chased nothing. Racing greys are often "coursing" trained by breeders using live rabbits & piglets to increase prey drive & make them "better" racers. Every greyhound is individual.

  • @nenasadie
    @nenasadie 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    He should know better. Australia still has dog racing and homes are needed for retirees. If he cared about dogs he would not say that.
    There is nothing more rewarding on earth than earning the love and trust of a greyhound, when they lean against you in that special way... I don't know who wrote the famous haiku:
    Some may say "too lean"
    but the greyhound understands.
    "To lean" is a verb.
    And they are comical. I remember once I had a bag of chicken, and I let my Emma off on a grassy hill well away from any roads to teach her recall, and she just went trotting off. I was shouting and shouting and then chasing her. A very kind couple caught her for me, and when I caught up they said: "She's lovely. Is she deaf?" and I had to say: "No. She's just ignorant."
    You will buy dog coats. More than you need. I knitted plenty. I knitted her a christmas coat out of red merino and fashion fur trim.
    You will tuck them in at night.
    When Emma discovered she could have "things" that were hers, she was so happy. I took her to the pet shop and bought her a toy stick, and she carried it all the way home, pleased as punch.
    Sorry for the long comment lol. I miss my girl so much.

      Do an internet search for greyhound adoption & rescue centers. Very easy search. There are many centers filled to capacity & beyond with greys needing homes. Many greys bred in Ireland are sent to UK. Australia is even sending greys by airplane to homes in US. Please do adopt there are so many!

    There certainly isn't anything boring about a greyhound or similar. I have a lurcher which is three quarters greyhound and one quarter border border collie and he runs with dogs he feels safe with. When this happens all eyes are on him. Recall can be bad as he's a free spirit.

    Is Fairy able to sit?

      Greyhounds can't sit due to their build. They stand, or lay down. :)

      Some greyhounds sit! I had 2 greys, one could sit & one could not!@@onlyjesussaves840

      I asked if Fairy sits because she seems to do everything else so wonderfully well. My experience with the 2 rescued racers I had is that one would sit & one would not. It seems some greys can be trained & some will not. It really is quite amusing to watch a grey maneuver into the sitting position! Pictures of "sitting greys" can be found online. Like everything with this wonderful breed, they are as individual as the number of greyhounds.@@Fairythegreyhound
