- Many people believe that greyhounds need a lot of exercise. Yes they are the fastest dog in the world but that doesn’t mean they need a lot of exercise. Find out just how long they need to walk for each day in this video. Here you will see Fairy the retired racing greyhound doing her favourite thing…sleeping. I explain her daily routine and how much exercise she usually gets. I have included some clips of her running at top speed on the beach.

A morning show here in the US had a dog expert on and he said he would not recommend getting a greyhound because they are boring. Can you believe that?! I was so upset hearing about that because greyhounds are in such need of good homes.

They are far from boring, mine is the funniest dog I have ever had. Mine is 2.5 and he has lots of energy
That person must've been talking about the buses. My son (Greyhound) is anything but boring. Sure, he rests a ton during the day but take him on a walk or to a wide open field and see if boring is how the antics that ensue are described.

Fairy I dont blame you ..0730 is acceptable😊😌😴...it is ashame that Greys do get overlooked at rescue centres as folk think that they need loads of excersise, my lurcher loved his sofa bed, they certainly know how to sleep ! Ty for sharing 🎉
Fairy is a gorgeous example of this wonderful breed and shows the importance of rescuing and homing ex-racers. They deserve lives like hers.

I'm watching this as my whippet is taking up the sofa doing his roach impression lol, he is also not good in the mornings and if it's also raining well you can just forget it.

Greyhound lover here. Fairy is such a cutie! My son has a rescue greyhound that goes to work with him too, he's a gardener, and his boy Zeus is such a lovable goofball.
I see a lot of similarities with our two podenco hounds we adopted from Spain. They where such gentle and loving dogs. They both had a huge prey drive, but they could sleep for hours. Sadly we could only let them off lead in a fenced environment. Otherwise they would go hunting. Podencos are used solely for hunting in Spain, and don't have the best lives over there. We had them for about 11 years and they have both died of old age. Your Fairy is such a lovely dog. I love to see her running on the beach, and i enjoy watching your clips. Adopt a Greyhound. They are amazing Dog's. Very unique and low maintenance. But they do need a soft, comfortable, large bed. And raised feeding bowls, oh, and a couple of warm, waterproof coats. Then they are very happy. 😆💗💟💓💖🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🏴
Good points. As well as their positive personality attributes, it's important that new owners know these are not like ordinary dogs, they have special requirements because of their long legs and low body fat.

Our 11yr old grey just finished a 10 mile walk, and did a 1000foot hill yesterday. They can exercise ( but live their beds)
Fairy aint movin anytime soon 😂. My Greyhound was the same but when they are walked on lead, after sniffing around, they can get bored. He did have a sprint, then he would be done for the rest of the day. The definitely love their bed more than anything, apart from food.😂 Greyhounds are the best pet's.😍💖💓💟💗🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 Fairy is gorgeous 😍

Do they lick people a lot? I have friends who have dogs that just come and lick people madly. Not everyone likes having their faces and other body parts licked. I prefer my dogs a bit more aloof and well mannered. Greyhounds seem to be more reserved? And less “licky”? Would you say that’s true of the breed in general?
Yes Fairy never licks people and never jumps up in your face
My greyhound just died from bone cancer. I would wake up at about 5:00 but we wouldn’t get out of bed until 6:30 or so.
So sorry to hear that, I think it’s common in greyhounds unfortunately 😢
