I have never really enjoyed looking at abstract art, no less painting it. But watching you have so much fun doing it, and loving the result, I decided to give it a go. Oh my gosh, it was SO MUCH FUN!!! And it was the first time I ever really loved something that I tried for the first time. Thank you, Ellen! I love your teaching style, your variety, and most of all your enthusiasm.
I only paint abstract. I LOVE the surprises I get while painting.
Love it! I was just literally turning my phone around to “help” you tilt it 😂
OK Ellen here I go 😃. This looks fun and I’m too precious about my Arches paper...
LOVE THIS!!! 🤩🌸
The first time I saw you do this it was to create an abstract tree background and then you painted details in foreground.
I love the colors just creating a suggestion of something. It’s fun to do something different!
It looks like the hudson river to me. The far bank and the central area is varying light and reflection on the river. 😊❤
Always a wonderful drop into amazement! Abstract is a quiet mind gone a little crazy! Thanks for letting my child take control, I never liked following directions, free experience into color and form is more my style. Thanks for allowing my child out! Karen Dirmish
Hi Ellen, 👋I joined your Patreon last night to prove to myself that I am committed! to my watercolor practice, it seems like I’m forever stuck in ‘beginner’ stage. I tend to make excuses why I “couldn’t possibly paint today,” lol. But these quick abstract tutorials kick me into gear every time.
This absolutely awe inspiring, it's like magic, perfect for the lost mojo moments! Love the result you are so talented ❤
Absolutely beautiful choice of colors. This wet the back technique is perfect. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Exciting! Didn’t think too much until you put the blue in the foreground.
Thank you for your wonderful videos - for years I have wanted to learn to watercolor and you have helped me take the plunge!
I love this painting! Thanks for all your tutorials. I just love all the different styles!
Looking forward to your abstract! Let’s go!
YES! Sometimes you have to leave well enough alone...love this thanks❤️
Thanks so much for the wonderful instructions! I’m excited to try some of your techniques! 😊
Thank you 😊
Love abstracts love your videos
Your comments were so fun to hear. No doubt you enjoy this style of painting. Very nicely done!
Love this! I have watched many of Lois Davidson's videos and she is a master using the Hake brushes.
I only do abstracts. I am a novice . I love your videos. I have learned so much.
Absolutely a winner of an exercise. Love how mine turned out. Will repeat exercise on large paper. Just what II want for my living room wall. Thank you dear Ellen. You are a winner in my eyes. Linda
Love this! How fun! Thank you! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Merveilleux 🎉
Very cool, I love it, I love the colors the technique is really cool. Here's an idea, add some rock salt while it's still wet. It will leave a really cool pattern like little rocks. Just add the salt then let the painting dry, then scrape away the salt.
That is just amazing. When you added the colour to the lower corner I gasped outloud. Thank you!
I love other people's abstract paintings, but I always second guess my own. Thanks for sharing how you make yours.
Abstract is one of my favorites when I first started painting. I have Vision challenges that have giving me so much opportunity to be creative and abstract is my best friend. Now I am learning about intuitive abstract, learning about how I can be confident in whatever I paint. I enjoy your style of teaching and I appreciate your ability to encourage the building up of confidence. Thank you so very much
I love painting abstract landscapes, too!
I loved hearing the excitement in your voice. Your painting is amazing, thanks for sharing it with us!
Lovely! Yes, I love abstract landscapes, too. Sometimes, it's hard for me to know when they're done. Any tips? Still, I agree that it's freeing. Eager to try a larger page now. Thanks for the prompts, as always. :)
when you feel your going to overdue it is usually when you see it looks great but feel that it took so little time- :) I find when I spend too much time on them they are overdone.
I love the wet-on-wet and especially with this demonstration, how fabulous! The colors, the energies; I will definitely be playing with this. Thank you!
I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE!!!! Please do more!
So many videos with this technique with out explanation. Thank you for explaining. Now I'll try this again.
I love it even more with the trees!
Love it. So much.
Great Ellen, thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I love abstract art but have never known where to start……I do now! 🙏🏻👏👏👏💜

That's so cool ! I will try that next.. ❤thank you!
Not usually a fan of abstract art & never painted any but this looks like fun so may have a go. Thank you so much Ellen 🙂
Same 😀
Awesome!! As a beginner I haven't used even a scrap of my Arches pad but thought I'd cut it in half and try a small sample of what you did....well try at least. I don't have any kind of plexi glass or plastic and not able to spend money for any but I do have one of $trees thin. clear, cheap. flexible cutting mat/board? type product that might work. Won't know till I try. Tfs this lovely work of art!
Love this abstract landscape. This is the type of painting I am now "trying" to do. Thank you for sharing!
I'm an abstract and mix media artist and i find people either love it or hate it. I get a lot of comments that abstract art isn't art because it doesn't look like anything. Those people are clearly missing the point. I gravitated towards abstract art because it allows me to think outside the box, to use my intuition and to go by feeling. to me if it feels right, I'm on the right track. I try not to let my brain get too involved in the process. Because, if I do, i'm usually not happy with the end result. I think abstract can actually improve your skills because it allows you to just do anything, and there's really no rules other than the 6 elements that should be in a good abstract painting and you can adjust them to your style and yes, i'm talking about line, shape, color, color value, form and texture. Sorry for the book. ❤ & I LOVE how this turned out. I just started working with watercolors and i will definitely try this. Thank you so much for doing this video!
STOP GIRL!!!!!
It looks great as it is.
I love it! I love abstract art and this is thrilling to me. I have to wait a couple days to try it but so excited to do so! TFS!

Great project. Great to see what you can do with different textures
I love watching you paint, and I've just been brave enough to try it on the back of a failed painting and it was so much fun!! Thank you for your inspiration and encouragement from the other side of the pond!
Thanks Ellen! Can’t wait to do this!!!!!
You should do one of the ocean.... great video thanks
I love your tutorials ! Your honesty and trying something in the moment keeps them so real. Especially the...I'm done..not going to touch it but then tried something lol. This is probably what most of us do all the time ! Going to try this out!
Oh wow, I tried it, and I am in love with this technique !!
I love painting semi abstract landscapes, thanks Ellen ❤
You have really inspired me to do a spontaneous painting like this. I love the look and the process. I also love watching what watercolor will do all by itself. Thank you!
I feel like this is going to open a whole new opportunity for amazing landscapes and backgrounds THANK YOU!
Love it!!! Keep doing abstracts!!
I love all your abstracts and paintings. I do more painting now and work on improving my drawing since I started watching your tutorials. I wish I could be a patreon.

Love this!! So fun to work with the hah-kay (hake) brush and an old credit card! Love your colors... beautiful piece!
Beautiful Ellen lv Ann uk ❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you, Ellen!!! Fantastic tutorial!!! So much fun watching this 🤩 It actually looked like you were having such fun!!! I’m going to try this today. I think it would be so great for warming up too!!! Thank you so very much ❤
I loved this lesson Ellen. It didn’t involve any sketching, which is what has been deterring me from sitting down to paint lately. My question is do you just let this painting dry completely on its own until it lifts off of the board naturally? Thank you so much this was liberating!!
That turned out lovely.
Un grand merci pour le partage, superbe
Great job!
Awesome. It was fun seeing you loving your work! I’ll give this a try…but I’m afraid I’ll get mud. Still learning! Thanks.
Lovely painting as always but totally inspiring to pursue & enjoy abstract painting! Thank you!,
Breathtakingly beautiful and your joy is contagious :)
Wow that is so beautiful.
Oh that's gorgeous 😍😍😍😍
I love this ❤
Beautiful. Thanks for a great lesson. Fun too. 🫶
I've not actually tried abstracts before but will give this one a go.
I feel like this is just what I need to get out of my art block, thanks for sharing Ellen! 👏
I love it, so uplighting! Thank you Ellen :)
I tried this and had a wonderful time trying scratching. I overworked it and it looked like a lily pad impressionist mess. I may make book marks. I am inspired by this video to try again 🎉
love these colours!!!
Doing this for sure!
Love love this! 🙏🏻
Hi Ellen! Could you tell me where I could find a portable easel like you are using in this video? It's what I've been looking for but I haven't found anything like it. I don't see it on your Amazon shopping lists. Because of you I've been painting AND DRAWING which I never thought I could do until I found your cardinal. Thanks!
I would love to know this info as well please. Portable easel I need 😀😊
Fabulous!
Thank you, Ellen. Please show more abstracts.
AMAZIN! 🎉🎉🎉
