Thank you for watching! Their Burnt Sienna is very similar to Transparent Red Oxide by Daniel Smith - it is more “rusty” and it granulates. It is a lot of fun!
That is so beautiful Anastasia. I'm a beginner and appreciate your inspiring tutorials and your reminders to have fun with the medium. I really have to remember that rather than getting frustrated. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! So happy my videos are helping you in your watercolours journey. You are right, it is so easy to get frustrated with this free-spirited medium, but it is so much easier when we let go of expectations and simply play with it 😊 Have fun!
Watercolors have so much flow comparing to the acrylics! It is such a fun medium, and it feels like it blends on the wet paper all by itself, creating surprising effects. Enjoy your watercolour journey ✨
Oh dear.... This is so beautiful.... Exactly the style i've been looking for, for months. Abstract, minimal colors and wet in wet. Loving it, thanks for sharing. And my favorite color, Payne's Grey.
Your control and restraint when playing with textures is amazing. I also think you have a real skill for adding in necessary info to these videos in text in a way that isn't intrusive.
So helpful to see using a dryer to control the process, and not just go from a wet to dry state for another layer. Also love your pigment references- rare on the tutorials I watch. Oh PR101 I am in love with you. Thank you for this great video. Beautiful results.
Thank you for such wonderful feedback Susan! Glad to know you enjoyed the video 😊 I love learning about different pigments our paints are made of, and how they are used by different manufacturers. I absolutely adore PR101 too - such a gorgeously warm pigment 🧡
art frees the stress of the mind, im so happy im painting more and more, Im so lucky to have such a talent, im self taught, so you could imagine the hours spent staring at blank canvas, not knowing were to start.ha its only your show I understand now, just practice, and most important thing is enjoy it. 🙂
I agree! There is such peace in the painting process itself, when we drop all expectations and simply enjoy playing with colours. It is wonderful that you have been painting more and more - being creative makes our lives so much richer. Thank you for watching my videos!
That Payne's Grey is gorgeous! I love how this came out! I'm normally a very detailed, realistic painter (well, surrealistic), but these types of abstract landscapes are my favorite and how I always end up creating them.
Thank you for watching my videos 😊 This is one of my favourites too - I love the way it turned out, and it was the first of my videos that really took off here on TH-cam ✨ Hope you have a lovely day!!
You are who I’ve been looking for!! I’m a new painter and am finding my comfort zone or style and what you do is exactly where I’m heading! Loose landscapes with your color choices. Subbed and notified!
@@AnastasiaMily very much so! As it is, I am trying to put together my pallet of colors. I have watched many of your videos and grabbed the colors that stand out to me the most. Could you recommend 5-10 or so essential colors to begin with? I enjoy using a limited pallet like so many of your pieces.
A good selection of yellows, browns, blues, and greens would work well as a starter palette for landscapes. My mostly used colours are: Raw Sienna Light, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Sepia, French Ultramarine, Indigo, Payne's Grey, Perylene Green, Olive Green. Also Lemon Yellow, Indian Yellow, Phthalo Blue, and Lavender.
@@AnastasiaMily Wow! Thank you very much for your time. That really helps me narrow it down. So many colors, so little time. thanks again and looking forward to watching more!
I just love how this painting developed, really lovely. I have only recently found your channel and am now binge-watching!! This is the type of painting that I love and your videos are so helpful and inspiring.
Allo Anastasia, I love this loose watercolor landscape :) and very much appreciate that we have a look on your colours palette on the right side. It is very useful to be able to see the paint consistency ect..... I would love to see more of this in your futur tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us...... :))🥰
Thank you for watching, and for your kind words 😊 And for the feedback! With my current setup it is challenging to include my regularly used large palette but I can do it for the paintings where I use two or three colours only.
Amazing what you can do when you let your imagination run free with two power colors! Might be fun to paint a nocturne - perhaps a snow scene? - with those two colors, maybe some masking fluid, possibly a couple of other deep blues like indigo or a violet. 🤔
I love that you call these "power colours", they truly are!! It sounds like a wonderful idea for a painting. Indigo and Payne's Grey play so well together.
I found you on instagram yesterday and this is the first of your videos I’m watching. I can honestly say I think I have learned more from this one video here than I have in the last month watching tutorials. Thank you!
I wish I had the skills you have to make creative decisions on the fly like that. Your work is a genuine pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing with us 🌸.
Wow! It’s so moody and deep. Textures are amazing! Love watching your process, so relaxing to watch. Thank you so much for sharing. Your videos are really inspiring
I really must try this. Early on when the paint ran down, leaving long gravestone? shapes.....I thought these looked a little like standing stones. Reminded me of an ancient stone circle with the high ground above. I'll try this when I can, maybe adding a textured wash to the ' stones'. Evoking a scene long ago where people would gather for ceremonies. Well......that's my imagination running wild. 😀
It is always so fascinating to learn what a viewer notices in an artwork. I can see those standing stones now too. Adding texture to such shapes is an amazing idea - have fun! And thank you for watching :)
@@AnastasiaMily Since watching painting tutorials I now look at things differently. A tree. ........how would I paint that? A rock.....how would I paint that? Really opens your eyes 😀
It truly does! Artists can never look at things the same way as non-artists 😁 Always observing and thinking how to transform an object or a scene into a 2d image
Lovely painting,I have to watch it again to see where these trees at the left came from. (I mean the soft impressions ) . My volume was low and I heard the piano ,but that other sound ,I was under the impression that some electrical device was going to catch fire😀...
no se ni entiendo nada de ingles pero tus obras me fascinan no veo que uses muchos colores sin embargo estan todo tan equilibrado que me quedo sorprendida gracias por regalarnos tanta belleza
Wow. Um, my only 'disappointment' is when you added those trees in front of the big 'sublime' trees. That tree (the leafs make them look as one), the way you achieved that 'ethereal' feeling in it with that touch of sun reflection or whatever (evidently I'm neither an artist or art critic): I was mesmerized by it. See it at 7:08 BEFORE you added the other trees. You practiced MAGIC there: How the heck could you visualize that touch! Anyways, beautiful work; I will have to be contented with going back to 7:08 to stay in that 'mystical' mood. 😇
Thank you for this - I am always curious how my work is perceived by the viewer, so reading about how you responded to the process was fascinating. The play of the warm and the cool colours produces atmospheric results and also an illusion of light. Just the two colours, the warm and the cool, combined together here created that magic 😊 Thank you again for sharing your thoughts!
I’ve been doing watercolors for fifteen years. Started with very realistic paintings, moved to a looser style and now discovered your lovely landscapes. Anxious to try your process. Have you ever done this on Yupo stock?
Watercolour sure takes us all on a beautiful journey! Thank you for your kind words about my art. I tried Yupo a couple of times a few years ago and I really loved the process and the crazy results but I still prefer to paint on cotton paper... Yupo is a bit too "slippery" for me :)
Love Your Style and this one of my absolute favourite. I will try this one out, but I have real hard following tutorials and my patience waiting for layers to dry are even worse. 😊
Love your work so much! Been trying to attempt your videos. Your work is so beautiful. What is the item you use to prop your paper up on one side so the water flows toward you while you paint? I have used random items but my paper slips off. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊 That item has a funny backstory as it was part of the packaging our new washing machine came with :) I looked at it and thought it was perfect for my studio! But a similar support can be easily made by folding rigid cardboard into a prism shape and taping it together.
@@AnastasiaMily I love this story! Thank you so much for responding and for the tip. All this time and I didn’t know you should tip your paper while painting. Thank you again and your work is very beautiful and it’s peaceful to watch you create. God bless
Learning a lot from you. Which paper do you use. I would like to follow your tips and style. As paper is so important I want to know which papers you recommend. Thanks for sharing
Thank you - so glad to know you are learning new things from my videos. I use cold press 100% cotton paper, mostly Baohong Master's Choice brand. I am not sure where you are located as I know that Baohong is not easily available everywhere. Arches is amazing too but more pricey. Fabriano Artistico is a brilliant option as well. The results you get when painting on the professional grade paper are so worth it...
Hi Julie, I got the paints directly from Rockwell (they kindly sent me some paint to test last year, and I really like some of those paints!). I believe you can buy from their website, and they are based in Canada. They list all the pigments in the description of each paint, and it is worth researching those pigments before buying as some are not lightfast. Art Spectrum's Payne's Grey is very similar to Rockwell's.
Do you think I could use Daniel Smith’s paint sticks instead of fresh paint from a tube? Have you tried one? I’m wondering how the paint will move on the paper once you add the water. Thank you.
I’ve never tried the sticks, but I am intrigued by the idea of them. I believe the sticks would behave differently to freshly squeezed paint, as I think the concentration of pigment is much higher in the tube… so the colours would not flow that freely when water is added. But since I haven’t tried the sticks, I can’t be 100% sure 😁
Those two Rockwell paints are stunning together. Their burnt sienna is unlike any other burnt sienna I’ve tried.
Thank you for watching! Their Burnt Sienna is very similar to Transparent Red Oxide by Daniel Smith - it is more “rusty” and it granulates. It is a lot of fun!
