    Israeli Educational Television.
The Third Wave was the name given by history teacher Ron Jones to an experimental recreation of Nazi Germany which he conducted with high school students.
    The experiment took place at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California, during one week in 1969[1]. Jones, unable to explain to his students why the German citizens (particularly non-Nazis) allowed the Nazi Party to exterminate millions of Jews and other so-called 'undesirables', decided to show them instead. Jones writes that he started with simple things like classroom discipline, and managed to meld his history class into a group with a supreme sense of purpose and no small amount of cliquishness. Jones named the movement "The Third Wave," after the common wisdom that the third in a series of ocean waves is always the strongest, and claimed its members would revolutionize the world. The experiment allegedly took on a life of its own, with students from all over the school joining in;

I would say it's an accurate saying but missused in the context of this experiment.
Because here it's not the popular thing that is elevated as the correct, but one man's ideal, which depending of whoever he is, can either be bad, average, or great. Take a philosopher and grant him full powers, or a bourgeois, or a potter, all these will have different impacts, good and bad, in different domains, but the people are just the expression of the individual's drives, and nothing else.

The sad irony is the city where this took place, Palo Alto, California, is MUCH WORSE. The original experiment, The Third Wave, only took ONE WEEK for the teenagers to start acting like Nazis. Look up the truth about that city online, not just the Wikipedia page.. and you will read some very frightening facts about how little those people think for themselves in real life. They LOVE being led by ideology, no matter what it is, when it strokes their egos and makes them feel "superior" or "special". That isn't saying those people are not everywhere.. but Palo Alto has far beyond the normal percentage!

Most philosophers were nut cases, and I bet you studied every one of them, from a nut case perspective, (your professor), who left out the best of them all, Ayn Rand. The philosopher of man's ability to reason on their own, (adding to Aristotle). Did you pick your philosophy from some "form" in the sky?

I always felt so sorry for the outcast kid, Robert, who embraced The Wave so willingly, because it gave him a feeling that he belonged, and that his peers actually cared about him. To have all that sense of fulfilment torn away at the end, and to be left standing there, alone, the same friendless kid that he was before, was a brutal lesson to have to learn at such an early age. I hope he didn't turn into a psychopath. I was kind of an outcast kid myself, but fortunately, I saw that my peers were just a bunch of crazy monkeys, and I didn't care if they liked me or not. I was there to learn, not to socialize or make friends, or to even be liked.

it doesn't? keep believing that it doesn't and it automatically proves you're wrong... The divisions in societies you see today are just as much the result of collectivism and ideologic dogma as it was 80 years ago. The only difference between now and then is that today people have it so much better that they can't be bothered or scared into following some strong leaders as to try and change their overall situation. The only thing that is required now for repetition is a decline in circumstances in which people live. The names and faces of things will be different, but the ugly beast that is human nature will roar and consume entire countries yet again. It's only a matter of when and where.

Masks prevent us who knows that COVID-19 exists from getting coronavirus, and vaccine is helping our immune system. Simple as that. If you don't want to wear mask, sure thing, we're not fascistic. But you potentially hurting a group people by not putting your mask on cuz "yOu DoN't WaNnA hAvE lEsS rIgHtS" or some shit, is the real fascistic action here, that you are taking cuz you would be responsible for deaths of other people.
By a vaccine, you still can get shopping if you are tested and have mask. And if you will get COVID-19, you got the vaccine - win, cuz your immune system is stronger.
Ergo you listening to your Trump fascistic propaganda, and going with a crow rather than listening to experts, is the real fascism here that you are part of.
In 1919- 1920, there was no internet, Ergo no hoaxes like masks don't work, or vaccines don't work, or the existence of COVID-19 is false, couldn't spread back than... This pandemic will soonly hit the third year. Guess what the Spanish flu pandemic took two years, and there's more people who died due to COVID-19 than who died due to Spanish flu. And why? Cuz everyone get vaccinated, was wearing a mask, and nobody complained about it!
Now some special people who thinks it's cool think that this pandemic is fake. Which is hoax, and even I can approve that. All we need is to work together for now.
In reality, the conservative parts of our society, as for a reason a Church is fascistic like that. When you won't obey the rules, even though they are old and don't make any sense you will burn in hell. Seems familiar...

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Those who _refuse_ to learn from history are simply _doomed._
One of the thoughts I come away with it today in 2021 (which is honestly probably no different than at any other point in history, for what I'm about to say), Is that:
There would be SOME KIDS in that group who wouldn't be fully woken up with the revelation that it was all a demonstration/experiment. Some would keep The Wave going because they could *make themselves believe* they could make it a net-Good. That the source of the teachings wasn't a good thing, but the _teachings themselves_ made them stronger and better and more capable, and could _help others._ Kids who could make *justifications* to mend the cognitive dissonance.
(With someone like Robert, I can imagine him trying to hurt (or worse) Mr. Ross For either taking this away or making him believe it in the first place.)
Absolutely terrifying the lessons some people _refuse_ to learn.

This is a problem that arises with in 'checks and balances" to which, I may be misunderstanding you, you are seeking to say that doesn't matter? because there isn't an 'official constitution'? Rules don't matter when there is no constitution? Based on any rules one is able to create "reasonability". This is, again, what a judges job is.
TO go beyond your comment, one religion is seeking to justify their atrocities based on how they think that a particular god (Jewish) thinks. Both sides are obviously doing this, but to put one over the other is CREATING a 'state' of Theocratic Authoritarianism over the other group. As seen be the MASSIVE protest people ( by non Palestinians) are obviously against their government becoming MORE theocratic. Theses people, with a slight minority would like their government to not go down the trapping of particular versions of Interpretations of 'holy' meaning. Netenyahu is looking to give a particular theocratic bias with in Judaism POWER over other theocratic versions of the torah. i.e. the orthodox Jews DO NOT want to participate in conscripted military service. There are plenty of other reasons as well.
Legislative powers WRITE/create laws, the executive powers execute, and the judicial powers JUDGE if that laws and execution methods/interpretation of those laws and rights is...right or wrong? YEAH. DUH. Saying judges don't have the ability to JUDGE is rere tar did and to use Religious term, EVIL; also hypocritical and authoritarian.

A scary story, but one that shares a lesson that we all need to take to heart, especially now. No matter what the issue, we need to look at both sides, examine the evidence, and then make an informed judgment, instead of jumping on the bandwagon and agreeing with whoever is in charge.

People who feel weaker than others, are the most likely to fall to the trap of power, to compensate for they weakness. And most of the times, they over-compensate. The teacher knew what he was doing by picking Robert in the first class as an example to others. This raised his self-esteem, made other people envy him, and him to feel proud, that he belongs, that they don't dislike him anymore. This way, he bought his devotion to the case later in the movie.

Great movie and very interesting event that took place. Although, I do find one of its overall points to be specious. The original question was how people that were NOT associated with the Nazi movement, which were far more numerous, would allow such events to take place. His point at the finale was more how people that ARE involved will become ashamed/deny, etc after the fact.
As far as the question of why people that weren't Nazis could have allowed it, I'd take into account a few things, personally.
One: They did resist. Hitler had more attempts on this life than almost, or just the most of, any leader in recorded history. Over a thousand, if memory serves. Needless to say, that and countless other stories of Germans attempting to help Jewish people would constitute 'trying to do something'. They were risking their lives and it's wrong to act is if they did not exist. Or marginalize their sacrifice.
Two: Pluralistic Ignorance. Basically, the assumption that everyone IS of a way of mind, even if the majority are not. For instance, I assume everyone loves sports, if the reality was that they don't but also just assume I do, it will creates a groups that manifests behaviors AS IF they all really do like it.
Three: Fear. I'd be afraid of an SS officer showing up at my door, too. And anyone that acts as if the choice to REALISTICALLY risk your life for another is a SIMPLE choice is naive and fooling themselves. Pretty much all people, in most instances, would not commit a behavior that endangered their self-preservation. And that's not their fault. We're all working with the same 3.6 Billion years of evolution.
Four: There are gradients of belief. This is a little understood, to me, sociological fact. The south leading up to the 1960's and 70's was not an area where people broke into to binary groups -- the lynchers and 'all the other good people'. Most people, the far majority, would never participate in a violent act in most any circumstance. That does NOT mean that they do not hold parallel view points. Typically speaking groups, politically, have broken down into a few defining traits -- political revolution (voting, quietism) vs. armed revolution (war, terrorism, etc). People in the south might not have been lynchers or terrorists, but probably held similar beliefs but in a non-violent form. The same goes to Europe in the late 19th century to mid twentieth century. Most all countries in Europe or the first world had SEVERE problems of antisemitism for many reasons, Henry Ford himself in America was a distributor of the 'Prague Cemetery' papers. A fictitious propaganda piece that depicted 'Jewish Elders' drinking blood and killing babies. Typically virulent and lethal cultures, even though the minority within a majority, only propagate as a mutation of an already existing strain.
I hope someone finds this post interesting and possibly insightful.

@@lora8546 Hi again Lora8546. I was hoping to clarify my two questions…. I show this video in order to try and stop anti-Semitic behavior and other hateful behavior in future generations. It’s one of the main reasons I wanted to become a teacher. I was horrified at the Holocaust footage I saw as a teenager and I wanted to try to do something that could help stop this kind of hate. When I was in High School, my teacher showed us Holocaust footage for nearly three days. I couldn’t understand how people could do this or deny that the Holocaust occurred. That is why in my U.S. History class, I talk about how Eisenhower wanted so much video evidence of the concentration camps on film… so future generations would not deny what happened. When I was a teenager, I felt a lot like Lori from this video. I could not understand how human beings could act like this. Perhaps it would make more sense to censure someone who denied the Holocaust than a teacher demonstrating how a horrible tragedy like this can possibly occur. That said, using the students was wrong and Ron Jones has acknowledged this. We talk about this in class as well. There’s a great video called “The Lesson,” in which Jones talks with his former students as adults decades later and addresses some of your valid concerns. Lastly, all races and people should be treated with dignity and respect. Best of luck to you.

David and Lori were the only people who passed this test and didn't fall into The Wave. Prejudice as a whole can (hopefully) end with a person's choice to move beyond what negativity is taught to them and find their own answers to live a better and more harmonious existence. It was quite frightening, and a big wake-up call to examine your beliefs and why you even believe them, if they are not the substance of human compassion. I have always pondered how only one human being can create a movement, for better or worse and this film certainly sheds a light on that. This movie is also a reminder that any movement, no matter how essentially good, can create the pressure to conform against ones own individuality. One must constantly assess the reason for our actions, from the smallest to to the truly consequential. There is nothing more precious than our own unique individual thoughts, and the freedom to think and act upon them. Movements such as civil rights, anti-war and global warming have an endless capacity to create social good for many people and should be embraced, with the caution that no matter who or what we feel we belong to, we must never lose our individuality, our actual selves. This film, is above all, a highly valuable learning experience. I hope more people have the interest to receive its message. Perhaps, there should be a remake that would keep its original integrity and be updated for film quality and presentation. Michael Moore would be great as the next producer. Are you out there Michael? In the meantime, the more that view this film, the better.

Same with BLM in 2020 with the removal of incredible works of art, re-writing of the racism, re-writing of history, And the woke LGBTQ+H Identity fraud before that where it's being forced as the norm to accept people with mental issues to seem normal. the 4th wave of Feminism also, 1st 2nd and arguably 3rd wave feminism was for equal rights etc. 4th is MORE rights than straight with male hate. and now we have the Qatari/Hamas paid Universities splurging their genocidal hate speech on our streets and anyone who speaks out is arrested. or called a racist islamophobe. But people want to fit in. and just like that, as you point out a mirror of Nazi Germany is created in the west. within the space of a few years germany was completely transformed. scary how fast it happens.

So somehow, I got caught up with the book. THE WAVE, a lesson Mr. Ross and his Class would never forget. After reading it, it was quite interesting! So I had theories about Mr. Ross and his class, if Laurie (a character) ever thought the wave was bad at the start, how come she had to convince Mr. Ross into ending the Wave that time?
So I asked many people who also read the Wave. They thought that Laurie although had a huge group against her, even her best friend Amy! Her boyfriend too! Maybe Laurie had to have atleast someone else to go with her and defeat The Wave. Her boyfriend had finally realized the mistake he made by following the Wave and it’s hurtful things it’s done to a Jewish boy.
Another Theory I had was that If the students knew the meaning of the Wave, then why did they use it to work together? I wondered and wondered and looked through the book, as a reader myself, I’ve read 12-14 books that were made in the 80s or 90s! And I’m at a young age of 13 of reading them! And so, many stories had many meanings! So I wondered maybe they just didn’t notice the backstory of yet how the murder was. They probably didn’t understand it well that they let it go and went with the “STRENGTH THROUGH DISCIPLINE” or something like that.
Also if you wondering the books I’ve read, here’s the list from my favorites!
    1. Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry
    2. Sylvia & Aki
    3. The Wave
    4. Nothing but the Truth
    5. The War that saved my life
    6. Greek Myths
    7. Norse Myths
    8. The giver
    9. Freedom’s children
    10. I forgot the title but it had a character called Parvana
    11. Miles to go for Freedom
    12. Brown V. board
    13. Animal Farm
I’m a good reader and it’s a hobby for me! Now thanks for reading my theories and about me!

Such a powerful documentary, and well presented here. I actually apply some of the teachings here to my own life (no, i'm not a Nazi lol) like strength through discipline, strength through community, strength through repetition, strength through actions. These are some basic rules i apply to my life and try to manage them in a daily basis, always remembering to embrace this kind of systematic way of living just to an extent. Like strength through community, just actively being more involved in other peoples lives like close friends and family, if even for a few minutes sharing a meme or whatever lol. Repetition, of good things, always meeting set targets - it's more of repetition repetition repetition which then develops a routine which in my opinion is absolutely necessary if you want a healthy mind, everyone needs a routine no matter what. Repetition of the goals you set helps build this and you do feel 'strength' like was taught but I think it's more just confidence people grow from realising *hey maybe i don't suck so bad, I feel great!*
Strength through actions also translates into goals but more so for me, I make bold actions that I know are a little risky but always worth the reward and if not achieved, the attempt itself is enough and rewarding in a way. Knowing there is strength through action helps me stay motivated to go to the gym or finish a book or write, whatever, it's simply just the action itself of being an active person *trying* to achieve some sort of goal, is very rewarding, confidence boosting.
