    What a great idea - a new and old comparison! Nicely done.
    My take away is that little has changed in terms of 4x4 capabilities over 15 years.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! Your take away is spot on, and probably extends back even furthar as I've had 4wds from the 80s and 90s that performed similar on the same track. Where the newer cars excel is more on the comfort side of things (aside from the rear lockers that most come with factory now - that makes a noticible difference on tracks prone to wheel lift).

    • @MiniLuv-1984
      @MiniLuv-1984 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@explorebound It was a little bit of a panacea for me - I have a 2002 4x4 that runs well (has only a rear LSD) and cost me a fraction of a newer unit - 140k on the clock, so relatively new...bits are a bit harder to find though.

    Nice episode and something a bit different as not many have the luxury of comparing new and old vehicles. I am keen to head out and check Mundaring but worry on breaking on stock height suspension. Cheers and looking forward to many more episodes 🍻

      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Luke, appreciate that! The track is certainly a lot of fun and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go - you could even try it on stock suspension as there's easier tracks to get around the particularly gnarly parts of the track. 🙂

    Before I start watching the clip. I think that the 14 year newer 4wd comes out heaps better you would say ( part 2 ) As I thought it would be. Great clip guys. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Jack! We found both vehicles to perform quite similarly in a lot of situations, and will complete most tracks, the Dmax will is just a bit more controlled thanks to the rear locker. 🙂

    Good to see the old ranger again.
    I did see wheel scrub on the dmax a few times looks like the tyres are to big with the front.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the fronts scrub a bit here and there unfortunately - good pickup. I was hesitant going the 33s for that exact reason but a lot of people run the exact same size without rub on the same rim offset so bit of a mystery what's going on there! Luckily it only touches on the plastic mud guards which can be removed, so might look at modifying those or lifting the front slightly.

    I have a 2019 dmax and really only 4x4 along the flat beaches when away and use it to tow my van and it works perfect for me. Keep a check on front body mounts cracking as this could apparently cause inner guard cracks on the wings, I have less than 30,000k and mine need replacing and it as never been driven hard.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've heard a bit about the cracking on that model and sorry to hear you've been affected - that must be a hastle on such a new car! I've got my fingers crossed that they sorted the issue for the MY21+ but time will tell I guess. 😬

    Any regrets with getting the Dmax? Do you wish you held out for the new Ranger?

    • @explorebound

      None at all, the cheapest Ranger with the new 3L engine is $20k more than I paid for the Dmax and they don't come in manual which was a must for me. Aside from that, the main reason I went down the Dmax route for Isuzu's track record with long lasting engines - hoping this will be a very long-term vehicle for me. 🙂

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well mate, you’re the first of 19,000 people to not comprehend the point of the video, but happy to spell it out for you. This video is a basic comparison between an older 4wd ute and a newer model to assist people who might be contemplating an upgrade but wondering if there’s dramatic difference in off-road performance. Please remember the world doesn’t revolve around you, and just because you were after something else it doesn’t mean this doesn’t have value to others.

    • @allankingsbury5657
      @allankingsbury5657 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@explorebound There are many reasons to upgrade from a 25 year old 4x4 to a 1 year old 4x4, but the only reason you have given is that the D-Max has a rear diff locker and the ranger doesn't, so that's certainly not a fair evaluation at all. I am not being funny or stupid in my reasoning here, I am simply saying that a 2022 D-Max vs a 2022 Ranger is a far more realistic comparison between the two Utes.

  • @avn1769
    @avn1769 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2 kids with mothers milk in their mouth being experts..........its more the driver than the vehicle that makes a 4wd more capable than the other

    • @Tom-lf8hx
      @Tom-lf8hx ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes and no, where the ranger got stuck, a mates mux was having some issues he got thru it but a bit faster, it had a bigger lift, tyres, coil rear so more flex but the traction control system let him down, so it wasnt going anywhere a bone stock triton (new driver aswell) did it easier as the traction control system worked better so he did it slower, you can be the best driver in the world, if the wheels dont have traction be it lack of grip or in the air, you cant fix that, hence why lockers or a good traction control system can help minimse 4wd and track damage

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @avn that’s quite an ignorant comment. We’ve never claimed to be ‘experts’ nor did we say the car was the only factor affecting performance. The point of this video was just to show that the average person won’t experience a dramatic difference between the two in general off roading.
