Adam, great lesson and easily understandable!!! I played around with this for over an hour last night...what a difference!!! Keep the lessons coming!!!
@@Scratchgolfacademy As I am reviewing this video a question comes to mind. Will this technique work with 'hairier' lie, or just a tight to medium one as shown? Thank you.
Was that a callaway Mack daddy or jaws? I been watching your videos for 2 years now and has helped me out a lot thank you sir. I been practicing my short game 20-60 yards shots from the green with my callaway jaws 56 and 60 with callaway chrome soft balls. The equipment you use makes a huge difference.
Haha thanks for everything Adam...with your videos I went from mid 90s To 1 over last week...I did find that with improving my game comes alot more focus and skill level...and holding on became lol bit difficult... Lol the guys I play with can't believe my play...and are now holding me to a higher level and watching me more careful and think I'm not counting all my strokes...thanks to you and Bobby Jones hahaha can't believe it myself.... thanks again Bazz...:) P.S the Bobby Jones how I play golf videos from the 30s....tons of knowledge there.... You should do a video on how to hold on to that skill level and focus when you're playing so well because I still find myself choking
Glad you've made such progress! Yes, that would be an interesting video. Back at scratchgolfacademy.com I have in depth video courses, and I have one in the works on mental strategies when playing. All the best, Adam
Is there any way you could make a few videos about more general strategy rather than technique? For example, when would it be advantageous to go with a short pitch shot vs. bump and run? How does the lie, hole placement, green speed, etc. affect that decision?
Thanks Logan, I'll try to get to those. At www.scratchgolfacademy.com I have full in depth courses that go in to detail on those subjects. All the best, Adam
Tyler, Not specifically, but it'd really about solid contact (speed plus loft lead to backspin). In addition, your equipment makes a difference. A fairly new sand wedge, plus a high performance 'spin' type ball are required for lots of spin. All the best, Adam
Putting the ball back in your stance encourages a sharply downward strike and de-lofts the club. Many amateurs resort to this chipping stroke because they feel the hard descending blow will give them the best backspin and best chance of making clean contact. While it can work, it's heavily dependent on near perfect timing. Being slightly short with contact and you hit it fat and short, slightly long and you thin or top it. Keeping your weight balanced and the ball in the middle of the stance encourages a more sweeping motion, much like a mini version of the full swing and you'll have more consistent contact. Use the bounce of the club to keep it from digging in. If you hit the ground first with this stroke you'll still come up short but because you aren't digging in you'll still get most of your speed and likely still get it on the green. Notice he just brushes the grass and there is no divot. That's from using the bounce instead of the leading edge. As with anything else it takes practice. I suggest practicing many strokes from different lies and conditions without a ball so you can get the feeling of bouncing the club along the ground and get comfortable with it. Try it with your wedge that has a good amount of bounce in the sole like 12-14 degrees. It can be done with any club but it's a bit easier with the higher bounce at first. It's speed with the club head that generates the spin.
Kirstie, Middle is what I recommend as a general rule, I just think playing it back causes club to dig, and costs you loft. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
Good video, however...... in my experience the overwhelming majority of people that watch TH-cam videos such is this have high handicaps, therefore this is the last video a high handicapper needs to be watching, as it just confuses them even more.
Thanks for the comment. We get a variety of watchers, and sometimes they comment that the videos are too basic, so we try to put something like this in for them. All the best, Adam
Scratch Golf Academy. Yes that’s fair enough. I spend most of my days coaching golfers with high handicaps, that are also confused on what they’ve seen on TH-cam. I’m not complaining at all, it keeps me in business 👍🏻

You're welcome. Glad you liked the video.

do you have a video on how to get backspin on wedges from around 80-100 yards?

I notice you don’t have the ball back in your set-up ie it looks middle of stance rather than nearer your right foot? Any comments on this - thanks!

Thanks for comment Johnny, I agree with what you are saying.

Does having a high bounce on the club make this shot harder?
Jeffrey,
If the lie is firm and tight then extra bounce could be a problem.

As usual l put a volume knob at 0 while watching video...but action speaks louder than word!
Fair enough, glad you liked the video.

This is actually what I’ve been practicing for the past week.
Hope you are having some success!

👏👏👏👍
Thanka
I think i need spin to stop and not backspin
Not sure I understand the question Milton, but hope the video is helpful to you.
