7:14 - This is the smartest thing I've ever heard on this subject. All my life, I've felt like a failure because I can never remember all the "Make Sures" during the swing.
I appreciate your holistic approach to the golf swing rather than focusing on one "magic" tip. I also appreciate the "how it should feel" tips and the latitude you give for people with less than optimal flexibility.
@@Scratchgolfacademy Yes, extremely helpful, thank you. Your instruction are in terms that I can understand and apply. Your best tip for me is the wide on the back swing to narrow on the down swing. Going wide stores energy. Getting narrow releases energy. I think of it like a figure skater doing a spin and bringing the arms closer to the body to increase spin. As advertised, the result is freer and faster rotation and more power. The concept is so simple that I was able to immediately apply this on the course.
Great videos! The visual aids are the key. I find the Hogan waggle helps me get the feel of snapping it at the bottom. Now I know what he meant by rehearsing your swing. Many Many thanks!!
Absolutely brilliant video - the content, the presentation, tempo, conciseness... everything. Finally - a golf teacher who respects your time and attention.
There's a lot to work on here. Grip pressure, take it back wide, come down narrower, rotate body but then slow down to allow the club to speed up, whip it off the tee with soft hands. And then you have maybe half a second to get the timing and sequencing correct. Yeah that might take a couple of practice swings in the backyard to iron out! :) Thanks Adam, great video!!
I had cancer a few years ago lost 42 pounds most of it muscle, i relearned the game doing your videos 1 on the range 1 at the green 2 times a week. I’m now 20lb heavier and nicely settled at a 8 handicap. Thanks Adam your simple but effective lessons are superb, I’ll be trying this next

Another great lesson Adam.. Driving is my strength, but what is your opinion on right foot pressure instep as you get to the topi for your backswing for extra yardage. Thanks again Adam ! Dan
Dan, I agree, there will be pressure in the right foot at the top of the backswing. On force plates there is a fairly wide range on this though, so I wouldn't force it. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
Hey Adam, your videos are fantastic. I used to apply muscle power for a 280y drive and had a difficult time with lots of pain for a day or 2. Now using the body swing. Everything perfect.
Great timing...I have just clicked with this action in the last few weeks and stated hitting irons and hybrid much better. I am still struggling with driver though but I think what you say about trying to find that right amount will get me there. I swing far more within myself yet hit ball just as far now. Great videos. Simple and effective. Regards from Stirling, Scotland.
im new with a driver, bought myself one 2 weeks ago, because 230yards with a 3 iron or 3wood is not ideal on the tee of a par 5. The max i get with a driver right now is 280-285 yards. I hope i can put some extra in it with these tips ( i overswing to much and my wrists are too locked up) Thanx for the tips, going to work on it asap :)
I gain 30 yards just by looking at this video hahaha..... and then by Saturday I'll lose it at the driving range😂 do a video of finding your swing and keeping it forever. 😂 for those people like me that claim we have old timers at the age of 49. Thanks for all you help.
I've been softened my grip and gained accuracy in the recent play Reached max distance of 203 metres Will test the water flicking afterwards. Targeting to gain another 10 meters Thanks Adam!
I need to watch tthis video many times , i can hit the ball a mile with my practice swing, it sounds like a cyclone. When i drive the ball t goes nowhere. Great advice.
With the right side stretch drill, I couldn't feel stretching until I was waaay too far back on my back swing (looked like Kyle Berkshire a tad) . Is this indicative that I'm doing it wrong or that I have the flexibility to swing harder?
Craig, I'd say yes. It does depend on what your current tendencies are. I tend to whip my hands at it too much, so, for instance, I need to key on less 'flick' as I hit it. You may very well be different. All the best, Adam
Great video when I hit a poor shot I've not taken the club away low and slow. You pick the club up and by getting too much arms and hands plus overswing.
I have yet to understand fully why we want width in the backswing. It would seem as long as the downswing is done as you show here one should be fine. I feel when I stay very wide in my back swing it feels like I'm swinging a 2x4 going back with no flex in any part of my wrists and arms. Just feels stiff. I know we don't want to have the swing and arms break down completely going back. My timing feels the best when at about 9 o'clock my wrists will start to hinge and I have a feeling of pushing the length of the shaft up and back. Hope this makes sense lol. Love your "no one thing fits all players" approach to instruction! Thank You!
It appears that at the start of the downswing the chest is bumping the lead arm, driving the lead arm and the club, and creating a slinging of the club??
John, these are personal choices for each player. Some, like Fred Couples, like to take it more upright going back, then drop it in coming down. This can produce a lot of power. Others, sat Matt Kuchar, prefer more the style of generally one plane throughout. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
Very nice! Im currently working on having loose wrists and arms. I can do the slow shots out to 250 but I want to be able to go full swing but that is when all the demons creep in. I still feel loose but my body becomes out of sync. Any thoughts on that from anyone?
Stack and Tilt (I think) is very misunderstood. It's really based on the "Golfing Machine' book, and prioritizes a centered pivot in the backswing. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
I kind of wish the video's title were different. Maybe "KEYS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR DRIVING DISTANCE". To hit drives like Tiger Woods, or for that matter Adam Scott, requires that the muscles used to swing a golf club to be quick twitch. A person cannot teach muscles to be quick twitch. That is inherent.

Interesting do you realize you have another video hitting driver further getting club further behind on the way down. Your actually saying two completely opposite things for distance.. I really have to stop watching golf instruction on TH-cam
Ok, I had a look at this video and I’m happy to comment, not to argue but to try and help. Two areas where you might sense contradiction. 1) I briefly say to ‘keep the club in front of you’ as you take it away. A good backswing is still WELL inside the target line, we just want to avoid the common pitfall of snatching the club behind the hands in the takeaway. 2) Almost all of this video is viewed from face on, the premise being the downswing should narrow, or load, then the wrists should pop near impact. If you stand in front of a mirror face on you’ll notice that when the club is more behind you early in the downswing (do it in slow motion) it will make the arc seem more narrow. So, loading the shaft (face on) as outlined in this video should work in tandem with it being more behind the body (as viewed down line) Hope this helps

Interesting do you realize you have another video hitting driver further getting club further behind on the way down. Your actually saying two completely opposite things for distance.. I really have to stop watching golf instruction on TH-cam
Please tell me which video that is
Ok, I had a look at this video and I’m happy to comment, not to argue but to try and help.
So, loading the shaft (face on) as outlined in this video should work in tandem with it being more behind the body (as viewed down line)
Hope this helps

I'm 61 years old and I average 290 with a 20 year old v foil driver. How? The Mike Austin swing. Period.
Glad it's working so well for you.

@@Scratchgolfacademy I'm not going to lie, it is kind of fun to outdrive the kids. Now if I could only figure out how to navigate the last two feet that'd be great.
