I enjoyed your interview on the WP Tonic podcast last week. Thanks to guys like you and Matt Medeiros, I am working more and more with full site editing and really appreciating its potential.
I am trying to use it but can't seem to understand how, after creating the templates, to just use them with a regular page or post... quite frustrating. Each time I seem to end up editing the template itself.
I'm not using block themes, but I'm new to doing anything with my wordpress site at all. I'm attempting to build my first landing page for a product and this block themes look super handy. I can't seem to find it within my wordpress though. Any suggestions or guidance would be most appreciated. Cheers!
So people(beginner) watching this gets convinced to make a 5 page static business website with/without blog. I'm sure they won't find a single video following start to end on this and would get frustated with initial setups...where to edit page, post ,home, homeblog, editor etc. A complete start to end tutz is need of the hour for beginners.
Could you do a quick tutorial about going from one block theme to another, such as 23 to 24, and are there any problems when doing it? I have used block themes from the start.
This may be what I've been looking for. 10 yrs ago we'd set Divs and manually code the style sheet. Divs Blocks whatever, this has styles in drop down accordions. So I'm going to redesign my Site and see how it turns out.

I've sort of played with block themes, but I'm not using them for 2 reasons: 1. I get really confused when designing blocks/templates/headers, you name it. You make it look so simple, and then I try. Ugh! And I've been using WP since around 2005 2. I support large, multisite/multilingual sites built in a page builder (Divi); yes, it's heavy. But, my content folks are really balking at using the block editor, so I'm stuck. I work for them, they don't work for me 🙂
I like block themes overall but find it pain when dealing with either longform text, because every paragraph is broken into a block, or when simply adding a block since you have to wait for the + sign to show up, or go to the editor. It's also frustrating when creating more complex block layouts, which become nested inside other blocks. Additionally, sometimes I don't want to have to "tweak" a theme to the degree Wordpress allows, I like old school themes because they are out of the box and I can just get into content, or add my own graphics. One overall thing I've noticed with wordpress is it's gottten away from incorporating imported graphic elements, and ends up looking more boxy and not "design-y", if that makes sense. I guess if you are from a print background, it'd be like putting more of your time into your style sheets and master pages, instead of creating really amazing layouts with interesting interplay between graphics and type. All of that is lost with websites, and no matter how customizable they are, they all end up looking the same. Just my two cents!

Now, it takes me a few nights just to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do. As Steve Jobs once said, people want to do what they do and not have to figure out the software. WordPress took the exact opposite approach.
Agreed. They need to make it better, easier to use and better availabilities for site customization and themes. It is not expensive for themes. They still have a good monopoly compared to other site builders. They are great in my opinion but if they make the platform more user friendly and offer more in themes even on basic accounts they will stand out for sure.
Watching ONE of your videos is informative, watching multiple of your videos is confusing. In a past video you spoke about the Gutenberg editor using the same explanation and made them almost seem interchangeable. Honestly, if you said "Gutenberg" in stead of "block theme" in this video I don't think anyone would have know which editor was being discussed. And that is the problem for me. I'd like an explanation about which editor does what and why one is or is not better than the other. Gutenberg, Divi, TwentyTwentyFour and so forth, discussing each without explaining what it can or can't do or why to use one over the other is confusing. I say this as a designer coming from Homesite, Notepad, ColdFusion, FrontPage, the original Weebly and more. I want to standardize my production with WordPress and an overview of these block builders would be great.
Hi, this video is about using Block Themes. A Block Theme uses the Block Editor to design your theme. The Block Editor is also known as the Gutenberg Editor because when the Block Editor was first introduced to WordPress it was called Gutenberg. Hope that clears things up 👍

Thanks for your comment - for long form writing check out the classic block, this lets you use the old editor within the Block Editor 👍
