I'm still not sure that I "get it," but it sounds interesting. Makes me think of the early millennial days of the World Wide Web, before it became the corporate Net.
I've been burnt out on socials so I decided to sign up and have WP just auto-post to everything that it supports. I'm enjoying Mastodon the most, but maybe I'll even make one for lacemaking or EGL fashion! I'm honestly struggling to get my content out there, there too much going on all at once and it's hard to keep up with all the trends, especially working a full-time job. I kinda need help, NGL.
Amazing! When I first heard the word Fediverse, it somehow triggered a memory about the Starr Trek Federation. I’ve been part of the IndieWeb movement for sometime, and somehow don’t recall that term being in fashion when I was more active there. Open web was. Does anyone here remember the name of one of the early attempts to decentralize Facebook connections through federated servers? Somehow I have forgotten his name and the name of the project. I know he died very young under suspicious circumstances.
Most people can probably relate more to phone numbers than mail servers. On the other hand… it's WordPress so the targeted audience may really have an idea about mail already :D
Thanks for watching! In the second episode, we actually talked about phone numbers and phone number portability. It's a good analogy to a federated system like the fediverse uses. th-cam.com/video/nLqwKph7Sxk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xbMTelM0qPf4wu8H&t=498
Other real world examples of federated systems: international passports, driver licenses, debit/credit cards, phone numbers, money, DNA, the human body (organs have to work together), etcetera.
Wordpress supporting the fediverse is huge
Agree.

My first thought was - the FEDs? Now? I still don't know what it does! I am toooo old.
The first thing I thought of when I heard "Fediverse" was Star Trek! You know, "The Federation"?

I thought of aliens.

I thought it was some government thing to “help” you deal with them. LOL
