    Another cool detail about the Thompson in this episode; it’s fitted with a Cuts compensator, which became an option in 1926 and was standard on the succeeding M1928 iirc. Also, Serafine’s BAR has been cut down to the gas tube, a common modification for gangs that had BARs. I believe there’s a photo of either Bonnie or Clyde with a BAR in an almost identical configuration.

    Based on the era, Nico’s revolver might also just be a standard issue Webley revolver. They were used by all British officers in the First World War and were fairly common, especially the long-barreled variants, which might explain the extended barrel length of the revolver in the few shots it’s shown

    The pistol they pull out of the seat has an unusual low-axis barrel that makes me think it's something more obscure like a Bayard 1908 in .25ACP (the only version with a 6-round magazine) or Steyr M1909.
    Also the BAR is specifically based on the modified guns used by Clyde Barrow's gang, with the barrel cut down to the length of the gas tube and the stock shortened.
    The Thompson used has a Cutts Compensator and so is an M1921AC.
    I'm no expert on revolvers, by my guess for Nico's gun would be Smith & Wesson Model 10, probably in .38 Special.

    It’s also worth noting that the BAR was also used by outlaws during the 1920’s and 1930’s. The most notable use in this time period was by the infamous outlaws Bonnie and Clyde.
    It’s also worth noting all of the guns used were also used by law enforcement agents, such as the newly formed FBI, local police agencies, and the different state rangers. In fact, the Texas Rangers sent to take out Bonnie and Clyde also used BARs as well as shotguns to take them out.

    Embarrassingly I actually got annoyed at first, because I barely got a glance at the BAR when I first watched this, and it almost sounded like a shotgun, so I got *super* confused when she was firing like 30 shots out of what I thought was a double barrel, then I realized that I was a f*cking moron and it was in fact a BAR.
    Course, it has a 20 round magazine and she fires *well* over that, but then again, what movie or show ever actually gets that correct? Either way, it’s so cool seeing so much research done for those weapons.
    Also, if that BAR is based off of Bonnie and Clyde’s BAR’s like people are saying, I wonder if… that’s how they go out…

  • @TheJhouston
    @TheJhouston ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You did a good job identifying the weapons here. I just wanted to clarify a few things about the BAR.
    While the BAR did make it to Europe in the closing days of WW1, it was never issued to troops or used in combat. Pershing was concerned that the BAR may be captured and reverse engineered by the Germans, so US forces continued using the French Chauchat as their light machine gun. The BAR is not an assault rifle, as it uses full power rifle cartridges such as the 30-06. Smaller, weaker intermediate cartridges are one of the defining features of an assault rifle. It also is because the Assault rifle would not truly be invented for another 25 years with the creation of the StG 43. Based on it's role and features, I believe that the best modern term for the BAR would be SAW, or Squad Automatic Weapon.
    The MG 42 isn't really a great comparison for the BAR as that is a belt fed, crew served LMG which was only used while stationary or mounted on vehicles. the MG 42 is best compared to the Browning M1919 or M2. A better equivalent for the BAR would be the Bren light machine gun since it was also magazine fed and designed for use by a single operator.

  • @Alphakerky
    @Alphakerky ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the 1911 we see in the pilot is an M1911A1, which was designed in 1924. the difference between the M1911 and M1911A1 are subtle, but noticeable when compared side by side. For example, the M1911 has a long trigger and short spurs, while the M1911A1 has a short trigger and long spurs. Considering that Lackadaisy takes place in 1927, it is possible that it is an M1911A1, but I think it's best not to jump to conclusions until we get a good look at the gun when it's not in Mordecai's hand.

    So the pistol labeled the Colt 1908 Vest pocket pistol is actually what's called a Dreyse M1907 pistol. The main distinction is the underbarrel design and it's Austrian origin as Viktor (who in lore is from Austria) was likely the one who acquires most of Lackadaisy's weapons including this one. Weirdly it's a pistol known for shooting .32 ACP instead of a homegrown cartridge. That said I am no expert and just a guy who likes old antique stuff. All the guns in Lackadaisy are fun to see in this style and I enjoy it quite a bit.

But the BAR has that distinct blocky wooden grip and the Remington had a curved magazine so the BAR is still more similar.
