I would say that the major compensation would be tight suboccipitals, the antagonists to the deep neck flexors. However, tight scalenes are often seen with weak deep neck flexors among a large constellation of tight muscles in the neck area.
@@CatalystUniversity yes it seems they get very tight too and cause severe occipital headaches. It also seems plausible that is the deep neck flexors are not working the scalenes help out and stay on too long cause Causing them to get tight. If they are very weak they will need help to flex. Occipitals will get tight but the scalenes and scm will step in ??

Could it be possible that problems with this muscles and neck stiffness cause long term ringing ear in both ears?
