  • In this video we take a look at the Airbus A320 Hydraulic system. We cover the workings of the system, specifying the Green, Yellow and Blue system components. We also connect the entire system together and show the services (landing gear, brakes, flaps/slats, flight controls etc.) which are operated from the respective sources.
This channel shares professional aviation knowledge from the MindSpaceX Aviation e-learning platform. MindSpaceX Aviation is the aviation branch of MindSpaceX which delivers learning content to professional pilots around the world. MindSpaceX Aviation focus on EASA compliant ATPL theory as well as type specific theory for common type ratings. We have hundreds of videos available together with extensive question banks for exam preparation and free downloadable multimedia such as posters, guides etc.

Thanks! The full A320 theory course is available on my learning platform; aviation.mindspacex.com for a small monthly fee. It is free to try and the trial have NO restrictions. Please visit and you'll find all the details. Soon will be launching the ATPL(A) theory here on the channel. Stay tuned!

Great video! But I cannot find more specific technical details about the PTU - is it´s internal structure build similar like a turbo charger, but instead of exhaust gases having the pressurized hydraulics fluid driving an impeller while another impeller sitting on the same shaft vice versa serves as a pump in the other hydraulics system?
Or is it´s internal design more designed like a piston pump? I wonder how it creates it´s iconic barking sounds....

Did you check out this video on the PTU: th-cam.com/video/kTxnvI_RtHo/w-d-xo.html
The internal design of a common PTU is designed like a piston pump. While one side works as a 'motor' driving the other side as a pump. It is what we call a bi-directional pump unit. You are right, the sound is very destinct :)

Sir what about the auto brake ? I thought if we lost green HYD we lose auto brake?

Auto Brake is not available if the green hydraulic system is lost.
      From the Airbus FCOM:
      SYSTEM ARMING
The crew may arm the system by pressing the LO, MED, or MAX pushbutton provided all the
following arming conditions are met :
      - Green pressure available
      - Anti-skid electrically-powered
      - No failure in the braking system
      - At least one ADIRU is available.
