    Explaining this as two clinch knots really brought home the months long confusion with tying this knot and I finally did it tonight.

    So I’ve been struggling with a blood knot. Side note, I’m just getting into fly fishing. I’ve watched a few videos and still struggled. I watched your video and 15 minutes later, I’ve tied 5 real nice knots. Thank you so much!!!

    Great video! You did a good job with contrast of the lines and zooming camera in for the viewers. So many channels fail in these aspects of filming a video. I think i will finally be able to tie this knot. Thank you!

    Watching Brian's finger manipulations really helped me through this. Took me more than 5 times however :) - One question, when both tags end up coming out in the same direction - will that knot fail quicker than the correct, opposite directional orientation that's presented? and, why are they coming out from the same side?
    thanks again- Steve in MA

      Although I prefer the FG for braid to leader I only tie them at home, when on boat or bank the blood knot is my got to for braid to leader, keep in mind it ties best when the two lines are very close in diameter. Google "uni to uni vs blood knot - knot wars", it was a tie.

  • @Awoit

    Hi Brian,
    There's some dispute online as far as what line widths can be tied together using the blood knot. Some people say that if you're tying two lines that have more than 1x difference in diameter a double surgeons is favorable, others say Blood knot for anything so long as you tie it properly. Do you have any advise for when bloodline would trump the double surgeons and vice versa?
    Thanks for all the videos!

    So you don't recommend it for 6x/7x tippet? I can do it with heavy lines bc i normally smallmouth fish. After going for trout this past weekend and using 7x, the knot was a beast for me. The 7x curls like crazy. Just did a surgeons knot.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surgeons knot is typically better once you get down into the "x" diameters....i.e. less than .011".
      Anything larger than that the blood knot is best.
      Hope that helps.
