Saw crosscode and rain world in the thumbnail and but still had hope that this video would have some banger gems I've never heard of... luckily The Void Rains Upon Her Heart and Picayune Dreams both look pretty cool! I will check them out eventually :)
Before you sold me on Neon White despite not being up my alley (and it was my GotY). You are the one that has sold me on Crosscode. I have a few titles to go through first, but by the end of year I am giving this a hearty shot. I do want to show appreciation for your genuine support of Indies. Not just complain about AAA's and point to indies. But genuinely dig into the underground garden that it houses. I haven't heard of most of these games despite only playing indies and going super hard every Next Fest (granted I have blacklisted every roguelike on Steam). So anyone who can find gems I haven't even seen a screenshot of is someone who I respect.
Check in here after you give it a try, I wonder if there's something wrong with me because I hated the game. Or maybe it appeals to a rather narrow audience and that's why it's not considered a classic.
So glad to see Picayune Dreams get thumbnail privileges, definitely one of the games I’m happiest to have discovered. Gotta check out Laika for sure too, heard many good things about it! Also wanna recommend Void Stranger, an insanely deep and complicated tile puzzle game hidden behind Gameboy styled graphics. There’s a moment during the ending that hits incredibly hard
The amount of passion for games, not just the ones in the public eye, is what keeps me coming back to your videos. They're well edited, paced, and brimming with joy! I'm glad you're starting to find some footing, I'll be excited for your next video on indies! For now, time for me to buy CrossCode and feel gamer feelings
God, the thunder and wave temple bossfight in crosscode, the moment I saw it in the montage a thousand memories unlocked in my brain What a nice and challenging bossfight, it felt so GOOD parrying the boss
You forgot to mention that crosscode is like all those isekai anime where if you want to you can grind the levels and be like your own version of an op character
I'm currently on my 7th(?) playthrough of CrossCode, so to see someone mention it in a video like this fills me with such joy! Perhaps the best way I could describe the game in a handful of words is as follows: *ahem* Single-player MMORPG Twin-stick Shooter Puzzle Platformer with Zelda-style dungeon crawling. My only gripe with the game involves some of the late-game Ricochet Puzzles. And if you know, you know. But other than that, it's a fantastic experience!
There is so much I love about CrossCode I could fill up an entire screen for every small detail that the dev team put in to make the world feel alive. But the one aspect that I found to be my favorite was the S-Rank mechanic, which drastically boosts loot drop quality and respawns enemies faster. You're on a timer to keep that S-rank going, so planning a route of encounters to get to S-rank without dying is also required. They made grinding fun and addictive, and the music is the cherry on top that keeps you on edge while you tear through everything in your path. It says so much when I currently have 70 hours logged into CrossCode despite not being a fan of long, story driven games. It is in my top 3 favorite games of all time, and the game only costs $30 (including DLC).
I’m so grateful for these series. Because of you I’ve played DRG, Lethal League Blaze, Omega Strikers, Battle Chef Brigade, and more! Thank you so much! Love the videos. I don’t know if you have already played it, but Yoku’s Island Express is phenomenal
Next time you drop a video like this I’d love to see you cover Iconoclasts. Banger indie metroidvania that got criminally underrated bc it came out the same weekend as equally fire indie game Celeste
I'm gonna recommend Heart&Slash. It's a roguelike 3d brawler about robots with TV heads. It's probably the most obscure game I know and your videos seem like a perfect place for it. Amazing soundtrack too of course.
CrossCode gameplay is just so fun and satisfying, both the bosses and mobs are fun and challenging to fight. There's also the exploration, you would just enter an area and see something that looks unreachable and you would end up curious what's there and how to get there
Thank you for these videos, as someone who plays indie games 80-90% of the time, finding new games can sometimes prove hard. These videos are amazing and always give me 1-3 games I end up picking up.
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is amazing and the game I've spent the most time on (so far). There's so much love and QoL in this solo-developed game; Veyerals (the dev) is incredibly humble and friendly. Please buy the game if only by principle.
Freaking LOVE crosscode! You could've emphasized that the MMO isn't just an MMO where people log onto a server. It's set hundreds (maybe thousands) of years in the future. Instead of having a server, people log on to a planet and have their avatars constructed from pseudo-matter, and both they and the monsters they fight actually exist within the game's IRL setting. That does nothing for the gameplay, but I love what it does for the worldbuilding! And while the game only takes place within the MMO (which is the setting, not the premise. The story doesn't really care about the story within the MMO game at all) it really makes me wonder how the world looks like beyond the MMO game's curtains, with space ships and colonies on other planets, etc.
Your indie game recommendations are legit some of my favorite videos that you make. Love to hear what you think, everything that I've tried has been an absolute banger. Keep it up dude.
Thank you so much for brining more attention to Void Rains!!! I discovered it last year and it is just so criminally underrated, hopefully this video will bring more people to this wonderful game
I'm so used to seeing a video like this and all the comments being "Rain World yaassss omg" (I'm one of them). It's refreshing seeing "Crosscode yassss omg" instead lol. It was definitely the most interesting looking game in the video aside from the 1 I'm biased to.
you always find the most under the radar underrated slept on gems that no one talks about that all look super interesting. kudos to you and your channel... you're a master at your craft~
Few suggestions I have from being a games journalist for specifically indie games that are maybe not super obscure but still worth talking about imo - Penny's Big Breakaway because it's awesome and I don't need to explain further -Ultros is a game released this year that I've seen barely anyone talk about, despite the fact its a psychedelic, Castlevania inspired time loop metroidvania with a really awesome combo system - Rytmos is obscure as hell but still a good time. It's a puzzle game that procedurally generates its soundtrack as you solve puzzles, plus you get to have little jam sessions at the end of each puzzle, it's really unique and a good time - Ynglet is a super unique and free-flowing 2D... Platformer? You play as a little thing bouncing and swimming between a bunch of objects, all strewn about these microbe-ish environments, it's very very cool. - cassette beasts is peak
Finally someone talks about Laika! It is seriously one of my favorite games I've ever played, legit made me smile like an idiot when it popped up in this video
My only gripe with Crosscode was how the base game's ending was completely butchered to tease the paid DLC extension, completely upended a meaningful and bittersweet ending to say: "Hey go buy this thing to completely finish the story" . They easily could have tweaked a few things to keep this from happening but as is it just feels like they're withholding a part of the actual base game. So disappointing to an otherwise killer experience.
Tbh rain world lore can just be "described as depressed people try to find a way to kill themselves because they're immortal and then jump into mcdonald's sprite but not before they fuck up most of the planet in the process of finding a way of jumping into said mcdonald's sprite without turning into a space octopus"
I'm so glad to see Laika get covered! (as well as learning about some other titles) And I've had the same feelings with the game as well. It does feel like it could've done more with it's Motorcycle gameplay and the rewards for some quests felt lacking. Still, I'm glad I went into this as blind as I did (and the music had so much feels).
trying to 100% The Void Rain Upon Her Heart is going to be like Sisyphus. Difference is, there's a top of the hill that I CAN reach, and I do in fact have the indomitable human spirit.
Your segment on CrossCode was PERFECT. You nailed it. The question at the start is one I ask myself every day - why ISNT this game talked about like Hollow, Knight or Celeste, or Hades? I'd argue it's better than all of them. This game is in my top 3 games ever made. It's a transcendent experience who's immense quality cannot be put into words. It's a true must play for basically anyone. It nails absolutely everything it tries to do, full stop. And it's $5 on sale. You can't NOT play this, that should be illegal.
Honestly we've had a ton of great indie games in the last few years alone. I'm sure you can totally find 8 more to recommend- Hell, Rusted Moss is probably the best metroidvania I've ever personally played- Signalis is an amazing old style horror game, Rabbit & Steel is a fantastic blend of shmups and FFXIV raid mechanics all blended in a co-op roguelite, and that's just a handful of some amazing gems I've enjoyed the past year.
I'm here as I continue waiting for that Kara Zero DLC. It'll be here any moment, I can feel it. I'll have to keep pausing the video to check every few minutes, I can't wait!
About the rain world segment, you are SUPPOSSED to go to the wall. it lets you get to five pebbles, an integral area. Then, you can go to shoreline to talk to moon, or just go ascend.
What's actually impressive about CrossCode is that the creators programmed it in JavaScript and turned out a finished and well developed product without ending it all
Fully forgot Rainworld was Indie until I saw that Lil scug in the thumbnail, it's just that good! And your video really makes me want to play crosscode now!
as someone who has been FIENDING rain world lately (started playing half a year ago and have over 100 hours already, don't see myself stopping any time soon) I love the rain world shout out despite it being relatively older and very obtuse. Also love CrossCode, that game doesn't get enough love for how great it is.
I got rain world a year or so back, and after struggling through it for a couple months, a couple hours at a time, i eventually just put it down. Seeing all the praise youve given it has convinced me to pick it up again. Thanks so much, Yakko!
Yakko your content is so engaging, entertaining and helpful. Thank you for the wonderful content and keep up the amazing work!
genuinely shocked and love to see the void rains upon her heart being mentioned. soooo underrated. same with crosscode, amazing set of games this time around!
Here is a tip if your still working your way through the rain world campaigns. Hunt for the story. Its starts of simple with survivor but hunter has his own goals important to the main story. But the DLC is where the story shines IT BASICLY TRIPLES THE CONTENT OF THE BASE GAME. Artificer makes you question your morals and if you are really the good one, Spear-master gives the second best reveal in the game and lets you learn about the story directly, Rivulet is depressing but with a hint of hope at the end... and saint. The only one to truly end the story. The most depressing, difficult, beautiful, interesting experience I had in a while. All because you looked for the story. Also Rain World is my favorite game ever. Happy to see someone talk about it :)

Crosscode is one of my favourite games ever. There's so much to do and it's so good. I can't believe more people are talking about it
Saw crosscode and rain world in the thumbnail and but still had hope that this video would have some banger gems I've never heard of... luckily The Void Rains Upon Her Heart and Picayune Dreams both look pretty cool!
I love seeing The Void Rains Upon Her Heart getting more attention :)
God, the thunder and wave temple bossfight in crosscode, the moment I saw it in the montage a thousand memories unlocked in my brain
What a nice and challenging bossfight, it felt so GOOD parrying the boss
You forgot to mention that crosscode is like all those isekai anime where if you want to you can grind the levels and be like your own version of an op character
I'm currently on my 7th(?) playthrough of CrossCode, so to see someone mention it in a video like this fills me with such joy!
Perhaps the best way I could describe the game in a handful of words is as follows: *ahem*
Single-player MMORPG Twin-stick Shooter Puzzle Platformer with Zelda-style dungeon crawling.
My only gripe with the game involves some of the late-game Ricochet Puzzles. And if you know, you know. But other than that, it's a fantastic experience!
CrossCode was such a special game, even grabbed the soundtrack on vinyl when it dropped, so happy to hear you talk about it
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart AND Picayune Dreams mentioned!?!?! That's a pretty good video!
If you love the music, please check out The Ultimate Arrange album. You will not be disappointed.
So glad CrossCode was included. I bought it nearly on a whim and it alone allowed me to love gaming again.
No suggestions, just love listening to you talk about shit you really like! Appreciate the passion you have for this stuff
CrossCode gameplay is just so fun and satisfying, both the bosses and mobs are fun and challenging to fight.
There's also the exploration, you would just enter an area and see something that looks unreachable and you would end up curious what's there and how to get there
yeahh rain world wooo rain world lets go wooo!
Best game
Unfortunate Development
Unfortunate Development
I love Unfortunate Development, Farm Arrays, and Drainage System. I don’t get why people hate these regions so much
@@brot477Drainage System and Farm Arrays are okay but I cannot STAND Unfortunate Development.
Thank you for talking about Crosscode it’s my favorite game of all time
Your indie game recommendations are legit some of my favorite videos that you make. Love to hear what you think, everything that I've tried has been an absolute banger. Keep it up dude.
I played Crosscode this past summer and it might be my favorite game of my life.
Thank you so much for brining more attention to Void Rains!!! I discovered it last year and it is just so criminally underrated, hopefully this video will bring more people to this wonderful game
i am beyond happy to see crosscode here!!!! I've been super into it for a while now and I'm surprised by how little people talk about it.
My favorite things about crosscode:
1. The drill questline
2. The new game plus humor
3. The story and characters
4. The music
5. Yes
Thanks for adding subtitles 👍
Few suggestions I have from being a games journalist for specifically indie games that are maybe not super obscure but still worth talking about imo
- Penny's Big Breakaway because it's awesome and I don't need to explain further
-Ultros is a game released this year that I've seen barely anyone talk about, despite the fact its a psychedelic, Castlevania inspired time loop metroidvania with a really awesome combo system
- Rytmos is obscure as hell but still a good time. It's a puzzle game that procedurally generates its soundtrack as you solve puzzles, plus you get to have little jam sessions at the end of each puzzle, it's really unique and a good time
- Ynglet is a super unique and free-flowing 2D... Platformer? You play as a little thing bouncing and swimming between a bunch of objects, all strewn about these microbe-ish environments, it's very very cool.
- cassette beasts is peak
For the record - I really appreciate that you include your gripes as well as reasons for recommending. Much more holistic.
Thank you for including Rain World. It means a lot to our smallish community.
Ayy I love the void rains upon her heart
CrossCode has been my all time favorite game since it was released in 2018, it's truly special.
LETS GO PICAYUNE DREAM IN THUMBNAILLL RAHHHHHHHH
you are the only youtuber where i dont skip the sponsored ad, they are just wholesome
holy shit Picayune mention
I'm here as I continue waiting for that Kara Zero DLC. It'll be here any moment, I can feel it. I'll have to keep pausing the video to check every few minutes, I can't wait!
Yakko please do these more often, you've recommended me some of my favorite games
About the rain world segment, you are SUPPOSSED to go to the wall. it lets you get to five pebbles, an integral area. Then, you can go to shoreline to talk to moon, or just go ascend.
What's actually impressive about CrossCode is that the creators programmed it in JavaScript and turned out a finished and well developed product without ending it all
My 3 favorite indie games i played last year were crosscode rain world and chained echoes. You were so close to a 3/3. Also banger video
Fully forgot Rainworld was Indie until I saw that Lil scug in the thumbnail, it's just that good!
And your video really makes me want to play crosscode now!
Thanks for putting me on Brutal Orchestra!!!! Your vids r such a delight
as someone who has been FIENDING rain world lately (started playing half a year ago and have over 100 hours already, don't see myself stopping any time soon) I love the rain world shout out despite it being relatively older and very obtuse. Also love CrossCode, that game doesn't get enough love for how great it is.
Picayune Dreams has been one of my favorite games for the past while and I was surprised to see someone finally talking about it...
I got rain world a year or so back, and after struggling through it for a couple months, a couple hours at a time, i eventually just put it down. Seeing all the praise youve given it has convinced me to pick it up again. Thanks so much, Yakko!
how are you doing so far? did you actually pick it back up
@@NewsofPE currently shaded citadel is beating my ass
Finally! Another recommendation for CrossCode. What a hidden masterpiece
Yakko your content is so engaging, entertaining and helpful. I want you to know I’ve found a bunch of beloved games through you and in the review sections of these games it’s clear that I’m not the only one with many reviews naming you as the person leading them there.
Me when the pain world 20:53
Edit: THE GRAPPLING BUG 26:12, also if you’re struggling with lizards kill anything that the lizards and other stuff hunts and give them the corpse
The void rains upon her heart looks so good, I will definitly give it a try these next days(and the aesthetic, my my! )
I loved seeing the games, but honestly yakko’s ad reads are so good. They’re the only ones I don’t actually skip.
