A Southern swamp does have a special ambience, with its smells, the heat, humidity, and plants. Haunting, sinister, but somehow romantic. Particularly at dawn and dusk.

I have never been in the Florida swamp, but in Louisiana, and MS'sippi swamp, it's creepy during high water, fog, when it is cold, and after dark. We had a houseboat in southern Ms'sippi, Pearl River swamp for many years. I could swear that during high water that I could see something just below the rippling water and hear the water whispering, early in the morning and right at dark. It seemed like it was whispering about or to me. It could have been just knowing how dangerous rivers and swamp are tho. I loved the river when I was young and unafraid, til I was about 45, but the older I got, I grew to dislike it

First Thank you all for letting me know you liked it and second just so you know my favorite line in this song is "aint much pride when you're trapped inside a slowly sinking ship. Scooped up the liquid deep and green and the whole town took a sip". Makes me think of all the anti vaciners out there who end up standing in line for their arm poke.

Thank you so much. I loved this song as a kid. It was on the radio a lot about the time of Gypsies Tramps and Thieves and Amos Moses. I was real young ...seven ish? ...we had just moved to Maine.
I really like the collage and how you timed the hypnotic water drop. So cool. 👍 ...excellent taste. 😍
...oh, yeah I can't decide what my fav line is. There's so many good ones and the simplicity of how he tells the story is amazing. He stitches it together so effortlessly.
I do remember as a kid particularly liking the part where he's describing the snakes. As a kid that was probably the part i enjoyed the most. At the age I was it was hard to understand the whole story.

I wrecked it when me and 4 of my girl friends were all going up to the lake. We walked around the emergency room in our bathing suites. One time we all piled into that car and skipped school. The Principle was standing out in front the school and saw us drive by. We all ducked including me. Next day the Principle called me over and said "funny thing happened to me yesterday standing out in front of the school. I saw a little red Pinto rolling down the street and no one was driving it! Cherokee people....Cherokee tribe
so proud to live...so proud to die
but maybe someday when they learn
      Cherokee nation will return,will return
      will return......beautiful poem about
      beautiful people.

Great artwork to go with a memorable song from my childhood. As a tween, I would fall asleep at night listening to my clock radio, which didn't have a sleep function so it stayed on all night long. Once, I woke up from a nightmare very much inspired by this song that was playing at the time. To this day, it remains one of the creepiest experiences of my life!

Making a country playlist for an older chap who's bad with technology and doesn't know how to download music (typically I hate country and I've been torturing myself for the last hour, but I really liked this song so ~#Silver-Lining)
      Thank You-

I had every note and word of this song memorized when I was a kid. Still gives me goosebumps today. Love it! This would be the perfect end song for the movie version of Where the Crawdads Sing!
