RIP, Charlie Daniels, who loved being an American. . . Bet he couldn't stand the looks of things, these past few months. ... Keep jammin' in Heaven, CD. Ya' done good, ol' boy.
I've loved this kinda music ever since I can remember! Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard was always awesome, and of course, I love The Charlie Daniels Band! You can't get no better country music than this here!
Yep! I was 13, sitting in the dark listening to the radio on my headphones when this came on (the best way to listen to it, btw). All I could think was “Damn, that was scary!”
It's an honest-to-God urban legend. Wooley Swamp is a real place, just a few miles outside of Carver's Creek, North Carolina. The shack can be found in the swamp, and people still claim from time to time to see the ghost of Lucius Clay.
Gotta love the wonderful talent these gifted musicians brought to the people... We are so lucky to have been blessed by all of these founding fathers such as Skynard, Coe, Hank, and sooo many more... Such a wonderful inspiration for you and me... Thank you fellas...
Oh my...if only ya'll knew!!! I was raised in Bladen County, North Carolina and know exactly where Mr. Daniels is singing about. I am from Dublin, not too far from Charlie's hometown of Elizabethtown. There wasn't much to do where we came from, other than work. So, on the weekends, we use to gather up with a twelve pack and some grass and go to places like "the Maco Light," the "Cape Fear" river, and "Wolly Swamp." I know for certain younguns, this is no "Boogie Man Legend," nor is it simply a song. This is a real folk song based on a real place with real history, and real characters that will haunt all of us back home forever. "If you care to take a dare," I'll show you a place "where the ground is always wet!"
You should not believe me...or anyone else. You seem like an intelligent man, full of curiosity, and the backbone to seek and find the truth. Ask your father, or mother for sure. Why you find it hard to endure. The truth that is told to thee, may not be just a fantasy. But, rather a truth that has been untold. So much longer than your very soul. Which color would you choose...black darkness, white light...it's all up to you. Hope you believe in the gift given you!
First, let me say that I never lived there or even visited. But I have a great imagination and can visualize a great story quite well. This song used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid. Still does. I also believe you when you say this place and that ghost is real. "There's some things in this world you just can't explain." I wonder why no one (to my knowledge) ever wrote a book or made a movie about this. It would of course, take the right producers and directors and a lot of help from locals who know this story and can make it come to life (no pun intended) with the right amount of fear, and most important, the proper respect for the area, it's people and it's culture. And of course, the legend. Without turning it into another cheap cheesy teen horror flick. You should all demand that respect before the first page is written or the first roll of film is shot. Ah, but second thought, sometimes movies just screw things up. I've seen many a great story, both real and not, get ruined by making it into a movie. Maybe this story should just keep being passed along through the generations and stay in the deep, dark corners of everyone's mind. Where some of the scariest things ever seen, both real and imagined, still live.
Are you serious? You have to read it from a book, or watch it on a movie. Bo, let me tell you something. Something that your mother and father did not. If you have to read about it, or watch it unfold in a movie, you are over-protected. Some things in this life are very true without publication, and many things are not, no matter how many books or movies you read or see. The Bible is real. Spirits are very real. Where is your soul?
music like this southern rock is the kind of music everyone should appreciate. it is Anerican and wholesome. i appreciate all who posts charlie daniels, marshall tucker molly hatchett thank u
1981 is calling and I'm going to answer the phone I had was poor but I hard great music and empire Strikes Back to watch at the movies and the king drove the 43 great time to be 10 years old boy
The day I heard about the death of Charlie Daniels was a sad one for me. He was a true American and had an enormous talent for music. The CDB was my first ever concert back in 1976 where he opened for the Marshall Tucker Band. Great concert and great memories of a great musician. RIP Charlie Daniels...
i'm 60 and back then and rite now this minute.. its country.. but I gotta say country continues to keep on keepin on.. new talent along with 'back then!' I ride an ole paint!
he came here to Sanford NC to play a concert at the fairgrounds a few years ago and that was one of my most memorable concerts I've been to and I've been to a lot including lynryd Skynyrd, Van Halen, and ZZ top but man did I love CDB
i saw danny live 1981 at lee county arena florida. i was 10 it changed me for the better. the next show was iron maiden in 82 it didnt come close god bless america!!!!!!
My neighbor called and wanted me to take the backhoe up to some woods on his place and bury a cow for him. It was getting close to sunset when I made it through the swamp and found the cow. This song came on the radio in the backhoe about dark while I was still digging. Ha, I was rocking out and thinking I need to finish up here and get out of this swamp.
Thanks Bama Girl, It was an adventure working my way through the woods, zig-zagging and squeezing the backhoe between all the trees through there and the swamp and even more fun trying to get back out of there after dark. Just crank up the radio and throw the hammer down, lol.
Me and my boyfriend gotta good laugh out of this. He is so afraid of an ole house a lady lived near him once upon a time. This related and we enjoyed the humor!
I'm not big on this type of music usually -- but this is excellent. Driving, wonderful story, well sung and performed. Wouldn't it be cool to see this performed on the Grammy Awards?.....Ha....probably not in my lifetime though. There's creole music, zydeco, country music, there's blues -- but this is swamp music of the tallest order...just as important to Americana. I'm from NY and I am proud my Southern brothers can whip up this type of music. My Yankee cap is off to you.
Song reminds of when I drove through the Florida Everglades at night down Alligator alley. Miles of straight highway with gators hiding along the ditches and only the occasional passing of headlights going the other way to let you know you weren't alone. Definitely creepy!
madmikeastoria no lights! no fences! hasn't really changed much since I was a child except now it's even creepier since the introduction of pythons, boas, and other exotic wildlife!
john smith I hear ya Bro,and I wouldn't even be scared if I broke down going through it at night..I'd just listen to all the night sounds and lite a fatty!
One of the first albums I bought, back when I was 12 or 13, just after I bought my first copies of The Wall and Back in Black! Charlie Daniels Band knows how to rock this shit!
What a great song full of lots of wisdom for the young ones to learn from.yes there really are things that go bump in the night and they are always watching for all the naughty little sinners to punish & traumatize
Careful John...that's just what the Tabor boys did and went lookin for his money. Didn't work out to well for them, thinkin he acted too funny. The best advice is to go on down there, if you dare, and if you make it out then unwind and have some shine. That's what we do from Dublin and we all made it back alive, except for four or five.
I am familiar with the Carvers Creek area,it was just down from my great grand-parents home maybe 15 miles and those who don't know,Charlie Daniels is from Leland,NC. The mention of Wooley Swamp hushed up alot of us great grand children, but for us it was grandparents just scaring us all.Legendary song non the less!
Used to drive the Trail when it was 2 lanes, pull over at night (no one else from Naples to Miami) and listen to the gators talk back and forth 'til the mosquitos drowned them out...

There will never be another one better. R.I.P Charlie Daniels

I've loved this kinda music ever since I can remember! Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard was always awesome, and of course, I love The Charlie Daniels Band! You can't get no better country music than this here!
My dad introduced me to this song while we were on a pontoon ride on a full moon night.

It's true. I swear me and my brothers threw him into the swamp. How did he get out?
Love this classic song and one of my favorites by this band. ❤
Gotta love the wonderful talent these gifted musicians brought to the people... We are so lucky to have been blessed by all of these founding fathers such as Skynard, Coe, Hank, and sooo many more... Such a wonderful inspiration for you and me... Thank you fellas...
A Northern New englandah.. who absolutely LOVES CDB!!! We need more of y'all southern folks up here to drain the swamp!! God Bless!!!!!

Hell yeah 😎
Will wonders never cease ✅ over 5 Donald.
there are real things back in the woods and best left alone
Some people do things !!!
James Stiles I’m curious and dumb enough to find the crazy and strange things in the woods
Just don't talk to the shadows .
True that!
RIP Charlie Daniels!

country boy dipper 1996 d
Exactly.
I rember when my uncle showed me this song at a big ass bonfire we were having and I fell in love with it
Used to drive the Trail when it was 2 lanes, pull over at night (no one else from Naples to Miami) and listen to the gators talk back and forth 'til the mosquitos drowned them out...
awseome song from my brother..
everything changes. but the swamps on the cape fear always remain the same
Great song.
I'm aware of that, I was saying this is not the original version of the song. Many artists that have gotten up in the ages went back and redid they're greatest hits, such as Merle Haggard and it's instantly reconizeable it's not the original version as when they redo it they change it and it don't come across the same as the original even when it's the same guys redoing the song.
i'm 46 this was music
saw Charlie live last Friday, cool as hell!
