  • The Matrix Resurrections is pretty meta. You know that, I know that, and everyone has their opinions on it. so instead of debating over whether that choice was a good or bad choice, let's instead discuss WHY the Matrix 4 is the way it is, what we can learn from it, and why it matters.

    Plus, in our age where actors never "die" (studios can take the appearance of dead actors and use it forever in their IP), having the machines to ressurect both Neo and Trinity after the events of Revolutions and put them again in the new Matrix means a lot in this endless corporate cycles where franchises will never stay dead.

    This new version of the Matrix is so much more seductive with its narratives and fictions that the machines don't even have to engage in conflict with the rebels, waste resources (sentinels) in an endless war with IO. With a corporate mentality, the machines perfected the "battery system'. They discovered how to maximize their energy output. Productivity wins.
    It doesn't even need Agents inside the Matrix. The swarm, a mass of mindless controled people, do the work perfectly fine, with even less disruption.

    Honestly I can see this one being similar to reloaded and revolutions in the sense that when they came out most people didn't really get it but then looking back years later they realized how brilliant they actually were

    Great analysis. I loved how you have a few bars of "Go As Alice" in the outro of your video. Cheeky.

    Thank you! This movie was so interesting and engaging, I couldn't believe the buzz around it was so negative. It kind of shines a light on the whole "I want it to be new but I also want it to be the same" contradiction that keeps happening among fans of franchise flicks. The relationships people create with things they feel nostalgic for seems akin to the idea of hero worship in a lot of ways. Fanatical loyalty until something doesn't quite jive and then its "ruined." The nature of those kinds of relationships just seems totally toxic and hollow, like no one wants to be challenged or presented with something they cant easily understand. I'm not trying to bash peoples reaction it just seemed very reactionary and shortsighted. So yeah, I guess that's some mild bashing. Thanks for this dude, this was extremely interesting as always. I will forever be a loyal fan...until you say something I disagree with or find slightly confusing, at which point you'll be dead to me forever. (See what I did there?)

      Thanks for the love! And couldn’t agree more. Looking forward to the day where I make something you disagree with that makes you utterly hate me! Then I’ll know I’ve made it!

      Idk, I think it's fairly easy to make a new entry to the franchise both new and the same at the same time. You just make a spinoff about different people instead of sequels that try to rehash originals. Why Hollywood keeps doing soft-reboots instead that destroy in-universe progression of the story, I'll never understand.

    • @user-yq9im9dk9z
      @user-yq9im9dk9z ปีที่แล้ว

      This also avoids the hero worship problem, because new characters don't have any existing expectations.

      @@user-yq9im9dk9z the reason they didn’t go with new characters is because Lana, the creator of the movie, had recently lost both of her parents and while she originally didn’t want to make a new movie (despite getting lots of pressure from Warner bros) while processing that grief, she started writing this whole story in her head of neo and trinity coming back to life, because it brought her comfort. And eventually she gave in and decided to make that story into a movie

    • @jasperjudd
      @jasperjudd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-yq9im9dk9z she couldn’t bring her parents back but she could bring back these characters of hers, and doing so made her happy so she did it. People can say what they want about the movie but you gotta respect her for just doing what makes her happy despite the backlash she knew she’d get for it from some fans

    I loved your break down! I have been waiting for someone to articulate in an intelligent manor just why this movie is actually good, and you sir delivered!

    I found you because of your moral oral video but stayed because of your matrix video. you need to do Mission Hill.

    You got it the same way I did so bravo, it is the artist intent that this movie is divisive by design

    Great breakdown of the movie! So just for my understanding, do u think Lana made this movie to be mediocre to keep people from wanting another Matrix so WB will not force her or someone else to make another one? If that is her intention, do u think that makes the movie good? Also do u think the love between Neo and Trinity in all of the movies was used to keep us from remembering what the movies were about.

      I think this movie is same same but worse by design. The reason for that is because something that had extraordinary meaning was gonna be brought back as a shitty sequel regardless and an empty hollow shell of itself whose real purpose was to shove something you loved down your throat to sell you more shit. As the creator you can let that dilution of your work happen, or you can bring to light how the “matrix” has changed and make people more aware of their unconscious biases and consumerism because the real point of the matrix as a story has always been about waking up to the systems of control around you that coerce you through lack of choice (formerly, the illusion of choice). So yeah, I think Lana knew exactly what she was making and how it would be received and I think that’s all intentional.
      As for Neo and Trinity, their love I don’t think was meant as a distraction, I think it’s the solution to that dilution of art. In the original trilogy love was always the reason for hope, it’s what pushed Neo to realize he was “the one,” it’s what made him different from other anomalies. When the architect gave him 2 options: extinction or salvation, he said “that’s no choice, I choose love.” I start to explain all this at 7:15
      The new matrix designed itself entirely around capitalizing on that love, in other words using your love against you. The love between Neo and Trinity was used to power the new matrix, and now that they’re free they’re using that love to shatter the illusion by making it ridiculous. Or metaphorically, Lana is not letting the “corporate overlords” that run our real world “matrix” use the thing she made against her fans, so she’s blowing it up on purpose by making it so over the top and self referential. And the real ones who always cared about the wake up call I think will see that, but the people who just cared about the Kung Fu and outfits will be butt hurt.

    Saw the new matrix 5 times in the cinema and I could not understand the negative reviews
    It got better each time best movie I have seen in years

      I get the negative sentiment. People want comfort and familiarity. Resurrections is meta fiction that is very much against that.

    Ya after watching your review i still didn't like the movie. First off great vid I did subscribe, and you provided some good insite but I still don't like the movei. The new Matrix was entertaining but to me it still didn't do anything different from the other reboots and delayed sequals, prequals ect. That writers room sequence in the movie was poking fun at itself but at the same time its like you pointed out the problem without providing a salution. You still did what every other movie does just cause your self aware about it doesn't make you any better. I get it this movie was made purly because warner bros wanted it. I'm not dogging on the directer for the movie sucking for me, i'm angry at the company for not investing in something new. I dont want to hate a movie or anything I wan't something that keeps me coming back. Honeslty talking about stuff you like is way more fun than bitching about something you hate. I get it my arguments against the movies are all valid and what the movie wanted me to feel but that doesn't make me come back for seconds. Before this movie came out I rewatched the old movies and had a great time like I did before and look back on them fondly but I cannot with this new one.

      Thanks for the love ❤️ I think this is worth discussing - you don’t like it because it’s shameless about what it is. I see that as like being cypher in the first movie - being shown the cheap cash grab that sequels are and wanting to unsee it. I think the thing people forget is that neither of the wachowskis wanted to see this movie made, and it was only after the threat of “we will take your brain child and abuse its IP with our without you,” and Lana basically said “okay you want a shitty reboot? I’ll give you the shittiest rebootiest shit that ever rebooted” and did it with LAYERS of sass which I absolutely love. I won’t say I love the film for its content, I love the film for what it is. A giant middle finger that isn’t afraid to blow itself up on the process. The person who made this didn’t want to make it. It’s the dada interpretation of modern film and Lana Wachowski is fucking Marcel Duchamp.

      @@MediaMattersChannel Ya I can see that. I'd just perfer to try and blow it up on a high note. But if they brought back Neo and Trinity back from the dead once they can do it again and again. Kind of a terminator darkfate thing. Doesn't matter how you end it or proceed with it.
