  • Identity politics are used to divide us, and "Raised By Wolves" is about just that. In this video essay, I discuss how Raised By Wolves deals with identity politics and reflects ideas of in-groups and out-groups.

Although I am curious what specific ideas or issues you briefly mentioned at the end of the video, I can also understand why you probably wouldn't want to shout those ideas out to the internet, especially when your channel is just barely trying to get off the ground. Either way, the channel seems to be going in a promising direction.

Anyone who follows my videos and has seen some of my past videos can probably tell where I lean politically but espousing those beliefs on a video about identity politics I think would distract from the point. But I think the comments section is a valid place to continue the dialogue!
We don't always accurately reflect the out group's philosophy, instead we villify them and meet any attempt from our in-group at understanding the other side with condemnation.
This is a very USA centric example, but someone who is prochoice grounds their philosophy on the belief that their right to life and liberty allows them autonomy over their bodies. The group that disagrees with this viewpoint does not even consider the human philosophy that drives that perspective; instead, they accuse them of "being baby k*llers" and claim that "if you are pro choice, you love k*lling babies." This is a completely inaccurate depiction of the pro-choice ideology.
Similarly, taking the religious aspect out of it for a second the pro-life group may believe that unborn children are defined as living humans and are thus unborn naturalized citizens with their own right to life and liberty, and thus they feel the need to protect those rights on behalf of the unborn child, but the pro-choice group may claim that they "want to control women's bodies," which CAN be a misrepresentation of the philosophy that underpins the pro life stance (although, subjugation of women IS the case with the more extremists in the political interest group, but does not accurately represent the underlying philosophy that many hold who are pro life).
I'm firmly in one of those camps, which I'm sure you already know if you watch my channel, but the point here is that in this whole us vs them debate, we can lose sight of our own beliefs and the beliefs of others, and forget that we both have SOME COMMON GROUND that sets the foundation for healthy disagreement on specific issues without alienating ourselves entirely from each other, and in this example it's the universal idea that we have the inallienable right to life and liberty. It's just how we interpret that and apply it is different, and often times the difference is the focus rather than the understanding that we both start from a shared belief.
