Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty, but the game has like 1000+ different effects that all have to work according to plan, it's a fckn miracle as it is. The one Okayeg big problem I had with ARPG games, including Diablo 2 in some capacity, is exactly what Asmon described. If you punish people for trying, they won't try. Sure, don't make the game too casual, have a bunch of extremely complicated mechanics and a cost for mistakes, but don't overdo it. Guides and wikis are probably some of the most cancerous places for a gamer, you devolve into a lemming in like 5 seconds on there. If the game has a reasonable barrier for entry but incredible potential for deep dives and thought process. People have to experiment and learn what works for them the hard way, but it should be fun enough that they would want to try again. You can't spell "success" without "SUCC". I can't wait to try and create my own build, maybe it'll be 0 DPS at first, but the game has to offer you enough possibilities. It's a very delicate balance, you make it too casual, and no one would enjoy it, but if you make it too complicated right from the beginning, new frogs will probably quit after realizing they bricked the character completely. I trust these devs to make a genuinely good experience, they seem like one of very few companies that actually cares.
Imagine if PoE had Warframe's element interactions. Like poison and fire create explosions, or maybe Ice and Fire make a fog that inflicts the enemies with blind.
yeah , thats why i play SSF in PoE: if I play trade i spend more time on path of building than in game because of the absurd amount of possibilities if you have access to everything (and the fact that i'm done with the league in two weeks in ssf , feels a bit dull after you're done clapping simulacrum , ubers and shit)
People who think you can't make your own build in PoE from the first playthrough are wrong. I did and that's also the only way I could convince my friends to give it a try. The PoE community has to stop spreading a "build guide" culture. Making a build is half the game.
Really hate to play after reading some guide. What fun is this? Somebody deciding for you how you want to play a game. That’s ridiculous! Totally agreed. Everybody should make their own build.
@@Buggolious Play how you want and have fun, but I believe you could make it work and you are cheating yourself out of an objectively huge part of the game that is deeply fun and satisfying. You may not be able to get to where you want right away but you'll get better each time and you'll realize that the journey to getting where you want and then doing it fully yourself is even more fulfilling and fun than just skipping to the execution part.
You need to follow a guide if you want to progress and play effectively and don't want to waste dozens of hours. As mentioned in the video fixing any significant mistakes in your skill tree is so cost and time prohibitive that it's faster and easier to just make a new character. That is supremely stupid design. Especially with such a vast skill tree as in PoE. The problem gets worse the higher your level when you make that mistake. This means that playing around with different build ideas is very time intensive. SO much in fact that I stopped playing because being bound to a guide is boring.
@@Xalantor You don't need to follow a guide if you want to progress and play effectively, That's a shortcut to doing it, but one that robs you of the journey of actually learning how to progress and play effectively -- which is far more fun then just following a guide to go through the motions. The attitude that you need to follow a guide is toxic and wrong. If you make your own builds you will get better over time and be able to effectively progress -- and you'll have a blast doing so. The occasional frustration of getting hung up on the journey will be more than outweighed by the satisfaction of conquering it.
Skill tree mistakes being costly to fix was the main reason I stopped playing PoE. I don't have a time to get a god damn Ph. D. in skill tree theory crafting. That forced me to follow a guide almost slavishly. Once I saw some cool things in the skill tree and specced into it only to discover that fixing this mistake by farming respec items would take more time than just making a new character. That is supremely stupid and the exact moment I quit.
Being punished for your mistakes, is the great allure of the game. If you already used the free respec points available to you while slavishly following a guide, you are doing something wrong. Experimenting with no consequences doesn't teach you valuable lessons.
In no universe is remaking your character faster than respeccing some points. Regret orbs cost nothing. If you're early in maps you could buy/farm like 50 regret orbs in an hour.
22:20 >Good luck being a melee here Well that's what the Shields are for, since those will have a "Raise Shield" skill for guaranteed directional blocking.
I love how Jonathan is always so excited about stuff. The delay is a bit of a bummer but expected with how hard it is to balance moving while casting without a proper alpha. And I understand them wanting to do a NDA'd alpha because the action combat is what will make or break this game to a larger gamer audience who is less tolerant of jank
@@Dead_Goat Yep overturned difficulty notice even the Devs died once in the video and almost died several times... People who got to early test the game complained that the difficulty was too hard and they were people that GGG selected to go to the event now imagine the people that aren't die hard fans would struggle immensely, also can we acknowledge the awful frame rate? They are probably running this on max hardware 4090 and getting 15fps? Not a good look at all.
@@Shukulo The game is not even out yet, not all is available to testers, nor do they have great knowledge of the game just yet. It is harder by design. It's not over tuned. 15 fps, what the fuck are you talking about?
@@janniknielsen9292 I'm talking about the developers, they've tested the game for hundreds if not thousands of hours and they are dying to bosses in the beginning of the game and yes its like 15 are you blind? there were moments where the fps was that low.
If you're new to ARPGs I'd rather recommend Last Epoch than PoE. The moment you make a mistake in the skill tree past lvl 60 or so it's faster to level a new character than to try fixing that mistake. That means experimentation is highly discouraged. I found it too annoying and tedious to continue playing. I hope for PoE 2 to change that.
@@Xalantor I didn't follow a build guide in the first 4 years. You have more than enough respec points to make up for pathing mistakes or streamline pathing, and you will get more than enough materials to respec should that be the case, unless you are completely clueless and just place points aimlessly. If you don't know what you are doing, use Path of Building to plan out how you go about it before you begin.
Ofc Asmon wants to see what the necromancer looks like. Bro looks like a perfect cosplay of a necromancer. But I think he likes being Thor for Halloween. Disclaimer: This is a comment of love, not hate. Nothing wrong with a little ribbing.
What worries me is that if ppl think POE 1 was/is punishing, just imagine a game where the campaign will take 60+ hours, and if you dodge a attack a milisecond to late, you are instantly 1 shotted. This is how insanely hard this game is, where players like Ben and Alkaizer had to be on top of their game and still died in the first act. A casual player, or lets say a player with nearsight issues (almost 30% of ppl) have a naturally slower reaction times. These players will get absolutely destroyed in this game. I can't wait, but i am veeeery sceptical about this risky move. They should have added another mode that i faster paced imo so you could chose. I think this will end up being a "elitist game" At least its free, so no complaining i guess.
@@Shukulo Sounds like the devs are trapped in a bubble of hardcore player feedback only. Many games died due to only listening to the loudest players on their forums demanding the game be harder. New and casual players don't go on your forums to complain, they just leave. This goes double for free to play games.
@ 8:45 I just realised that they didn't added an animation to the legs of the character while he is rotating on himself. When you see the work put in details like arrows bouncing , it is sad that they didn't catch such a visible unimersive move.

that whole thing about PoE being too complex is really not true. It is very complex and deep, but it is also quite easy to get into all the systems IF YOU BOTHER READING THE TOOLTIPS.. which is what the people who "dont get it" generally dont do. Everything is explained, either on the wiki (dont use the fandom one) or in game on either character sheet, gems, items etc. You do not need someone else's build.. you don't need PoB.. Sure, they make it all a lot easier but you aren't really learning the game then.
100% too expensive to make mistakes. The fact we have to use a 3rd party program to theory craft is a load of bull. Paying for orbs of regret has always been the bane of my existence with this game. I've been playing since beta and I still hate using path of building. It's bs.
How else are you going to theory craft, if not while in planning phase? Judging by your argument, you couldn't theory craft yourself out of a barn door.
@@jammin255 Of course it does. You theory craft with the 3rd party Path of Building, or a planner - just like any other ARPGame. If you are theory crafting while gaming you have not planned, but do it on the fly. If you have played since beta and still in needs of regrets or even being the bane of you, the game is not for you. While the synergy thingy is nice, I don't personally like it much because it effectively forces you to go use those specific skills to make your build the best it can be, otherwise you're stuck with something bad
Last Epoch nailed it with build adjustment. You gold sink and regrind EXP to relevel a skill you only have to choose the mastery you stick with. Unfortunately with D4 there are minimal viable builds so you get forced into metas which hopefully is remedied in S4 with the changes to make it more like last epoch.

I was at PAX East and had a chance to play all three available classes (sorcerer, warrior, and ranger). Of the three, Sorcerer was by far the smoothest and easiest to play. Warrior was the hardest and felt like a drag to play but with WASD/Dodge/Shield, it should make for a deadly class in it's mastery. Ranger was just okay. Didn't feel too OP or too weak, same issue as warrior to the degree that the new movement mechanics in the game require a new level of mastery to make for true god mode status with these classes, that is within the short demo I was able to play. Also, if you thought POE1 had a big skill tree, wait until you see the size of POE2 🤯
The starting boss examples were great, but I think if they wanted it to be more cinematic they could have had The Executioner get his head chopped off by his axe falling.
Gas cloud arrow with multiple projectiles on an artillery crossbow (that transforms the skill into a "Rain of Arrows" type) then you use explossive arrow to detonate all of them at once comes to mind, and they didn't even touch up on crossbows on this vid, that's from like years ago lmao
Re visiting this comment 2 weeks later I immediately thought "oh, silly me they probably have a gas cloud cap amount, and so do the flowers" so the fun may not be AS fun, but it's still very good fun in normal builds that don't go "+47 projectiles".
PoE would be fine to do your own build if it had respeccs that were at all reasonable or respectful of players time. Seeing as it doesn't only the tippy top of the entire playerbase is allowed to experiment at any noticeable rate. That alone is what keeps me from playing it anymore, it just feels like the devs are shitting on players while telling them its for their own good. Stubborn design decisions that 99% of the playerbase either dislikes, or dislikes the end result without understanding how they got there.
If it had it's own respeccs? Orbs of regret are super easy to get you don't need to be a top player for those and you don't need a tippy top build to clear all content what this sounds like is you don't have time for it so everyone must suffer. if 99% of the player base dislikes it the game would not be as successful as it is now like any game poe rewards players for time played im sorry that's not catered around you.
respeccing in poe is extremely cheap and easy to do. Also it is not hard to just roll another character if you want to do a full respec. Waht you want is a button to click endgame, lvl 100 skip.

I trust these devs to make a genuinely good experience, they seem like one of very few companies that actually cares.
lol editors, wrong title, he watched everything but Necropolis
Imagine if PoE had Warframe's element interactions. Like poison and fire create explosions, or maybe Ice and Fire make a fog that inflicts the enemies with blind.
this boss fight looks amazing and fun, cant even begin to imagine what the endgame bosses will be like.
Hell, just poe 1 ubers are insane fights. Ggg knows how to arpg, better than any other devs. 100%.
yeah , thats why i play SSF in PoE: if I play trade i spend more time on path of building than in game because of the absurd amount of possibilities if you have access to everything
(and the fact that i'm done with the league in two weeks in ssf , feels a bit dull after you're done clapping simulacrum , ubers and shit)
Mounts were so cool in Sacred 2, you could plan your build around being on the mount like the whole time
People who think you can't make your own build in PoE from the first playthrough are wrong.
Everybody should make their own build.
depends on the person i suppose, i could never make a functioning build that would take me to the content i want to exprience
@@Buggolious
Play how you want and have fun, but I believe you could make it work and you are cheating yourself out of an objectively huge part of the game that is deeply fun and satisfying.
@@Xalantor
You don't need to follow a guide if you want to progress and play effectively, That's a shortcut to doing it, but one that robs you of the journey of actually learning how to progress and play effectively -- which is far more fun then just following a guide to go through the motions.
The attitude that you need to follow a guide is toxic and wrong. If you make your own builds you will get better over time and be able to effectively progress -- and you'll have a blast doing so. The occasional frustration of getting hung up on the journey will be more than outweighed by the satisfaction of conquering it.
I bet he carved d4 on that tombstone

new poe league
thanks :)

>Good luck being a melee here
Well that's what the Shields are for, since those will have a "Raise Shield" skill for guaranteed directional blocking.
I couldn't get into POE, it just felt a bit too overwhelming and I didn't like the combat that much. POE 2 is looking right up my alley!
and to me poe2 is looking much worse ever video i see of it.
Likewise. I always tried to get into PoE but the combat was too floaty for my taste. PoE 2 though adds the weight I've been looking for in combat.
For me I personally don't like having to be forced to use multiple skills for synergies I like one skill builds.
I will say that for me the dream is something like the Ranger Corp from a book series. High poundage bows, high accuracy shots, smooth fire rate.
With one of the portal effect (the one who grind all living being upon activation) you could crash POE servor xD
9:50 when a true gamer plays, he is silent and finishes it then talks !
I must be sleeping underneath a rock, because I haven't dipped my toe into PoE. Thinking I should now....
If you do: Follow a build guide, download Path of Building and get a loot filter...

I think this will end up being a "elitist game"
At least its free, so no complaining i guess.
the gameplay isn't hard at all, crafting and shit is where the difficulty comes in, or hardcore/ruthless if you really wanna get fucked
@@Buggolious if you mean poe 1 i agree. poe 2 have insane difficulty, where the best players in the world struggled in act 1 during the LA event

@@RhebelGamingYep and they are players with thousands of hours under their belt so imagine people who are newer to the genre will instantly quit.
Changes to new POE 1 league is almost like an expansion lol
its amazing how asmon just cant watch a 1 hr reveal that had 100k viewers instead he has to skim through it like theres more important things like hello
that whole thing about PoE being too complex is really not true.
Where is the necropolis part?
Dude every time i watch an update of POE2 it just blows me away. Take a lesson big industries.
@@janniknielsen9292 your response has absolutely nothing to do with the point of my comment. Take your toxicity elsewhere.
You need games with training wheels.

POE is so complicated because of how many seasons it’s gone thru. POE 2 will be super simple at first, and will gradually add new mechanics each season. POE used to be fairly simple when it first came out.

Haha that's weird, title sugests he's reacting to the new PoE 1 league Necropolis, yet he watches the start of the stream showcasing some footage from PoE 2. And then its edited to show the last part of the stream looking at cosmetics coming out. So the entire middle part with the actual Necropolis content is just taken out? :D
Diablo 4 initial potential hype: ARPG with good narrative
Diablo 4 actual: Systems RPG with sub optimized systems
Poe 2 potential hype: Complex System and Action RPG
Poe 2 actual: A complete game ???
While the synergy thingy is nice, I don't personally like it much because it effectively forces you to go use those specific skills to make your build the best it can be, otherwise you're stuck with something bad
Last Epoch nailed it with build adjustment. You gold sink and regrind EXP to relevel a skill you only have to choose the mastery you stick with. Unfortunately with D4 there are minimal viable builds so you get forced into metas which hopefully is remedied in S4 with the changes to make it more like last epoch.
They likely will expand build variety and change the meta more so than before.

How am I supposed to wait for this game to release
What is this video? Is this about POE 2 or the new League, the title is so fucking misleading, Asmon skipped to the very end just to see starter packs???????

Of course it is better to take your time and deliver a finished product. Remember TBC first launch - it was delayed but when it was shipped it was an amazing experience. Now think about WoD/BFA/SL... Would you be happy to beta test a live game ? The guys from that company obviously prefer the old-fashioned ways when creating something and also being able to play your own game at a respectable level is admirable
nope. More delays always means worse end product. there is not a single game that was delayed 4 plus times and did not end up being absolute garbage. we were promised beta access to poe 2, 2 years ago btw. In that time the game has been overhauled multiple times and the vision completely changed.

It's insane how quality PoE seasons typically are. Necropolis already looks amazing. D4 is dead in the water.
You should make videos in 2K or 4K since 1080p looks worse on fullscreen, and many people have 2K or 4K monitors now.
Every league I say "they can't possibly top the previous one", and every time they prove me wrong.
Except Kalandra league, that one was a snorefest
The first one was actually really good for a free title but Ngl I think the skill tree made me cry and leave it, but I’m not used to them so I might as well try this again
