The characters have so much personality in Strikers Charged and characters such as Wario and Daisy really got to shine due to their personalities actually working in such a gritty situation
@@biggarffan37 "This is the game X wanted you to forget about". "This was the game X forgot about", When it comes to Mario spinoffs on switch, a lot of them are followups, but not sequels. That is to say, this is a modern take on Mario strikers, not a sequel Mario strikers supercharged. Just how super Mario Party is a modern take on Mario Party, and isn't a sequel to any one Mario Party, like how the series used to be. Is it a barebones simplification of already basic mechanics from the first game? Yeah, and that was probably an intentional choice, because there hadn't been a new Mario strikers in 15 years, and half the people clamoring for it's return never played the damn game. Also I hate battle league, I'm just also annoyed at video titles like this.
I'm surprised this video has so few views, because it's so well produced and informative! Thank you for pointing out things like the sound design and goalies, those are things I feel most reviewers don't mention or only spend a sentence on (like, they'll say Boom Boom sucks but don't elaborate on how that ruins the pacing). You actually go in depth as to what makes the games' aspects work and flop and it makes the whole video so much more rich and worth watching. I also never understood why removing the captain system in Battle League was a bad decision, so thanks for explaining how it affects the gameplay! (fun fact, Strikers didn't take any inspiration from american football, the body checking and dekes come from ice hockey)
20:44 totally reasonable. It's a lot of the small details that can really make it break a game. And sound design can be one of the biggest things that gives actions that oomf that really makes you FEEL what you've done.
The saddest part of modern day, is seeing simple home run hits being fumbled by massive corps, when a small group of dedicated fans could do so much better with the same funding. It’s not just Mario strikers, but Disney remakes, marvel and Star Wars, Assassins creed, and the rest of the forgettable AAA productions of the half decade.
The charged ball has some hidden features which are never explained from what i remember. For example teleport abilities like waluigi, drybones and daisy gain a lot of range with the charge, we are talking from the middle of the field into the goalkeeper kind of distances and yes i did abuse that to teleport right into the goal.
I remember the other day, a friend unfamiliar with the series was talking about how good the animations in battle league were, and asked me how bad the game was compared to the rest of the series. I think I said something along the lines of "it technically has less content," and then I started getting into how it had less characters with fewer unique traits, no stage hazards, reused voice clips, far worse music, terrible audio mixing, no cheats or interesting unlockables... I had genuinely forgotten how bad it was and had to remind myself with that conversation, lol.
Also as someone who did have the game and could mess with the gear system, I can say you were more or less spot on. There was some novelty to maxing out a specific stat or having characters play in ways that were really different from normal, but the unique character traits from charged were so much better. It especially sucks, cause I know for a fact that the gear system is the one and only reason _Daisy_ of all characters had to be relegated to DLC. Very few of the mario cast have similar body plans, which means this bland-looking gear had to be uniquely modeled, rigged and tested for nearly every character individually. Whatever amount of dev time went towards it, I can tell from experience that it was probably way too much for what it adds.
I honestly wish they brought back the Mario basketball game! Though with how the Mario sports games for switch have barely any content and have the free update stuff, they’d probably botch the game.
the one for the nds? it was super fun, it wasnt super deep or anything, but the controls were very intuitive and the touchscreen use was actually well implemented.
OG Strikers was SOLID and just needed more content. Charged was BAD the Wii motion crap was forced and the simple gameplay was ruined by the 5X goals you can make Res of it was passable. Now Battle WTFever was even worse than that with so little content that even OG would be considered Meaty.
Let's not forget that we see other team names and colors but even if you beat the full game you can't use them in exhibition mode and speaking of exhibition there are ten possible team names to use but five are exclusive to one side and five are exclusive to the other side so even if you wanted to you can't do Rockets vs Comets because they're on the same side of the screen, its so fucking dumb and as someone who grew up on charged im pissed on how Nintendo massacred my boy
Sorry if the intro is a little confusing. The video/thumbnail is talking about Mario Strikers Charged (17 years old) through the lens of how Battle League ignores it.
Personal, I thought switch stikers would be an updated version from the wii. Being nearly a decade apart, the wii version remains superior. The wii version did give you unlockable features and characters. Switch gives you DLC players and new costumes. Nothing to reward you for playing.
Ill never forgive Nintendo for battle league, charged was my first mario game so I desperately wanted a sequel to the striker franchise and after finally getting it it turned out to be absolute garbage only good thing about that games existence is the box art.
To be fair, I believe Mario Strikers: Battle League was probably developed during the period of the Mario Mandates. This means the developers were likely restricted by certain guidelines set by Nintendo, which could have limited their creative freedom. These mandates might have required them to adhere closely to the established Mario universe, character traits, and gameplay mechanics, potentially preventing them from introducing new or innovative ideas that could have expanded the game’s depth or variety it needed.
Everything you said about Charged was factual 😂 it remains the best Strikers game, they really should’ve ported it. Battle League is good I’d say, the gear actually does make a difference, as someone who has 80+ hrs in this game, I can confidently say that it does. I am very upset that the game I waited so long for was just another Nintendo switch lame ahh sports game, but at the end of the day I bought it cuz Strikers is such a big deal to me. When you said BL feels like a sequel to Super, I couldn’t agree more! It has more than that game but nowhere near as much as Charged. I’m still not a big fan of everyone being able to do Hyper Strikes cuz then there is no Captain, which is whack, I don’t like how everyone tackles & dodges the exact same, and while I’m used to the charged tackle now, it definitely confuses newcomers and the complex controls in general confuse newcomers which makes them not want to play the game unfortunately. I supported this game but I can’t in good faith recommend it to anyone who really wants to experience “Strikers” one of my homies ended up buying it close to launch & he joined my club but eventually he stopped having fun and makes me feel bad for getting him into it cuz he bought a full price game that he never wants to play…😢
Can you release acapella covers of all the Charged themes, thanks

Did you know that there's an underground community for Mario striker charged?
Yes! I've seen some high level matches before and they blow my mind, the game is so sick.
@@biggarffan37 I recommend Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, as a successor to Strikers.
Nintendo used to love these characters, cherish this IP. You can see it in the charge celebrations. The personality off the charts.
You missed that you can move the c stick when your opponent is doing a super strike to mess with their visuals on the GameCube version though
Oh fr? That rules lol
I wonder if this is The Mario Game Nintendo Wants You to Forget
I fear it may be The Mario Game Wants You to Forget About...

Lets not forget of Daisy in striker charged, never seen such power in cutscenes and mega strikes

I also dont like how no one in battle league is overly aggressive, make them all mad and look they want to kill eachother

Mario Strikers Vs 3 Tennis Match Games
I forgot Battle League existed.
I'm NOT joking. That's how forgetful it was.
This is literally everything i've been saying for the past two years. it's awesome to know someone thinks like wise.
Thank you, Big Garf, very cool.

That's the one I've never played... It looks dope tho

Very excellent editing and such here man, subscribed and just followed on Twitter!
Imagine Battle League have the definitive edition years later. Oh wait, Nintendo is not Atlus.

Deke is a(n) (ice) hockey term, at least that's where I've seen it most commonly used.
8:07 Ayo, what's going on here?
Some classic Nintendo Wii Action
Mario strikers more like Mario farters
This is currently the 48th best selling game on Switch.
@orangeslash1667 and yet it's a yawn fest.

Sorry if the intro is a little confusing. The video/thumbnail is talking about Mario Strikers Charged (17 years old) through the lens of how Battle League ignores it.
Can I be honest I feel like that this Mario game should be and have been a fighting game like the art looks like street fighter
