French Scorpene class submarines are by far most successful export variants ..being exported to Malaysia, Spain, Brazil and India. Indian scorpenes are called Kalvari (Shark) class and they are highly modified based on Indian Navy's specific requirements with additional sensors and are different than other export variants. They will be fitted with DRDO made AIP system since French AIPs were not developed in late 90s. Its interesting though that these submarines were also offered to Pakistan Navy in 2005 as a replacement for its French built Augusta submarines but pak went to upgrade its old french subs instead as the new french subs were costly. The question of which subs are better is a matter of debate but kalveri class can stand a chance due to better electronic suits and propulsion against Chinese counterparts which is one generation behind in electronics and has unreliable propulsion ....capability wise both subs are SSK category hence they both are good for local sea missions but have limited deep sea and ocean capabilities and certainly no power projection as such....It is important to note however that the reason why Indian Navy chose lighter Kalvari variant over heavy scorpene variant (which Brazilian Navy chose) is because India only needed limited numbers of french scorpenes as a stop gap measure till its own New indigenous SSKs (conv. attack subs) , SSNs (Nuclear attack subs) are commissioned in full strength as a part of Navy's 25 year expansion plan...

Does the Hangor class give the Pak navy the ability to deploy and launch ballistic missiles from the sea? The disclosed max 400 km range of the Babur missile is too short for an effective second strike role from the sea. To launch a 2nd strike, the Pak sub would need to maneuver very close to the Indian coastline before it can launch the Babur 3, this will make the Pak sub very vulnerable to detection. Once detected, a submarine can become an easy target. I believe a 2nd strike capability from the sea requires a missile with a range of at least 2000 km or more.

Any Chinese weapon which Pakistan bought is not used by Chinese military. It's basically Chinese export grade weapon with modafications made by Pakistan to enhance its performance which often makes the weapon better than Chinese military variant.

Pakistani variant is quite similar with slightly different sub systems and modifications to use local weapons. This is not an export exclusive submarine.
