On my first playthrough I was disappointed we didn’t get a giant spectacle full-blown Ifrit vs Odin Eikon battle, but it made more sense on a narrative level for Clive to best Barnabus himself as a man since he was trying to prove the merit of mankind’s will and strength to Barney-boy. I enjoyed the fight much more once realizing that, and the fight itself was still so sick especially with Barnacles turning into a manically-laughing beyblade while the STELLAR Odin phase 3 music pops off. Great fight.
Also, Barnabar kinda handed Clive's ass to him in semi-primed form, while both Titan and Bahamut were defeated while being over-charged on crystal's aether. So this fight was extra cool from that point of view (IMHO)
@@mikerelfYea it really established Barbie as a greater threat and worthy of someone who conquered an entire continent and ruled over it indisputably for 40 years while keeping other nations at bay simply based off his strength alone. It would have made zero sense for Clive to have beat him earlier, otherwise it would been plot armor thicker than fully-primed Odin.
This was the best fight in the game for me no eikons for the most part just a 1V1 he does kinda cheat towards the end with his semi primed form but still great fight
You really gotta hand it to Gav in this game. He is a normal ass dude with no powers or magic to speak of and what does this man do? Fights alongside his best friend, his best friends little brother, girlfriend and dog who all just so happen to have godlike powers that can end Gav in an instant as they all fight against GOD. Gav is impressive that he is still alive despite fighting along side Clive and his clusterF*** of combos with fire and elementss firing everywhere.😂
His reactions to all the bullshit that Clive had to deal with is awesome. He really sounds like how any of us ordinary folk would in those situations with the F bombs.
The complete Odin boss fight is a very beautiful tribute to the first Vergil fight in DMC 3. The rain... the top of the tower... even some of the moveset that Barnabas does is so similar to Vergil. Damn i loved this part so much.
I was actually started to hate Barnabas because he was such a slave to Ultima that he barely hand any personality of his own, making him less of a character and more a plot device. But when he started to get excited during his fight with Clive you can see an actual personality to him. A warrior king and the dominant of Odin (a war god) who managed to subjugate (what was left of) an entire island continent. I do personally wish he survived, just long enough to see what happens next when his god falls.
Odin had some of the games greatest voice acting when the third and final phase of his fight began. Incredible scene and fight like so many in this epic game
Odin/Barnabas didn't need to be a full Eikon battle. It was satisfying enough on its own, being a mechanically challenging and tight battle. Plus that part when the music kicks in and Barnabas does his crazy speech is INSANE. Definitely a high point in the game for me.
My god the final Odin fight with Barnabas saved his character so much for me. I get that Joshua was pissed and all, thinking that Clive had manipulated Jill into giving up Shiva. But Jill is the one who proposed it. The only thing Clive ever asked for was consent. And he never brought up that point.
It’s not even the root of his anger, he’s angry that Clive feels the need to be a hero and bear that burden himself. It’s kind of what Clive did for Joshua in becoming his shield, he didn’t want Josh to be overwhelmed by his responsibilities, and Joshua is doing the same here by looking clive in the eyes and telling him that he’s not going anywhere, they he will stand by his side and fight with him because he’s not alone.
@@patricofritz4094 he wasn’t going to beat the shit out of him he just was gonna hit him the once to make the point, Joshua isn’t stupid enough to try and actually fight Clive because he knows Clive wouldn’t fight back. He should have punched the writers for essentially sidelining the female lead. AGAIN. Both Gav and Torgul get more heroic and emotional scenes than her, it's crazy. And don't get me started on the waste of paper that is Jote. The strange part is that the game has plenty of decent female characters, they just decided to purposefully crap on the 'important' ones. I miss the FF's where the writers included female lead characters because they wanted to, and didn't treat them as obligations they couldn't wait to get rid off.
Does Max eventually realize how OP shiva Eikon ability is and how good Diamond Dust is against the stagger? Odin and Shiva together make the hunts a breeze
What a fight. I absolutely love that it is very much a 1v1 mano a mano. And, with Odin being the last eikon that you can get (probably the only one that you’re going to be using from now on), it makes total sense for you to rely only on your eikon abilities. As Clive is not the better warrior in this fight. It would’ve been too plot-convenient for a man who can’t even prime properly to defeat the strongest warrior head to head
The Babarnabas/Odin fight was pretty intense, even though I was expecting an Eikon fight to finish it off. But the final leg of the battle definitely made up for it when Barn-Barn went bat-ish crazy. I came close to dying wuirw a few times, but I got an insane flow during the last half of the fight. Ish was insanely cinematic and had me teethering at the edge. On another note, I have yet to complete any of the trails, I can barely get to the second stage with any of them smdh.
Man I love this game and the combat. I was really really REALLY surprised we got all the eikons, deadass thought like most games, you’d get only a few. And I didn’t think each eikon “O” ability would be that much different, though they’d all be kind of travseral abilities like the Phoenix shift and Garuda grab, but boy ol boy. This game deff would a lowkey hit for me
This video gave me old KH flashbacks lol. Complaining that people want more interactive worlds and that the weapons don’t do anything beside increase in power. Good times.
Odin is Very Powerful and he didn't even consume a crystal heart. This Boss Fight was good although I was hoping for Eikon Boss. I also love Odin soundtrack both battle and whenever he appears.
I loved all eikon boss fights and i know odin is the least epic in an espectacular way but man this is my fav boss in the game i really enjoy the fight even more in hard mode (final fantasy mode) that one was intense!!
I wonder did Max catch the dmc Easter egg lol Clive is basically Dante (red) and the Odin dude is Virgil (blue) (that’s why his blade cuts like Virgil’s ) also tower stage is the dmc3 tower hints you make it to the top and your running in the rain like you did before the Virgil fight lol
Garuda was tricky because the launcher kept killing the enemies before I could get the bonus. Bahamut was a cakewalk as long as you're decent at dodging. The circle ability together with satellite melts the enemies.
Man...they had such an opportunity when they first come across the pregnant lady: Scared lady looks up at the group: "Gav?....Is that you?" Gav, looks around nervously, as Clive stares at him. Scared Lady, now raises up in anger: "You! You said you were going to get some supplies! That was 6 months ago! You bastard!" Gav, ducking behind Clive: "I swear, baby, I was telling the truth! I was going to come back, honest! Clive needed me for a quest, didn't you Clive?!" Clive, holding his hands up and stepping aside: "Don't drag me into this, Gav."
@Test-mq8ih I thought the same thing, but i think Barnabas would be like the teacher's pet of the villains. Even Garland's up to his own stuff but Barnabas would out there doing everything the big bad wants INCLUDING getting the other villains on task. Him trying get Emperor, Kefka, Sephiroth, Zenos, and Exdeath on the job would be peak fiction lolz
Cold Snap works sooo good against Barnabas, he literally can't ever do the disappear move as soon as he does cold snap and he'll re appear frozen, Jill gives it to you to fight him for a reason Max, JS.. :)
I wish I would have looked at this build for my NG+ play through. I liked having my magic and physical counters so never looked at large damage builds.
The Odin fight was pretty cool (should see his attack if you don't finish him before the countdown, crazy) maybe there could've been a longer Eikon battle you actually control in the middle. But the melee combat felt right.
I think the dlc they need to make is EX versions of all the big boss fights, like they have in the trials in FFXIV xP. To head off anyone asking if I tried FF mode; this isn't about straight up difficulty boosts. EX modes in FFXIV would add new moves, new phases, new mechanics. They could make SUPER CHARGED versions of already super-charged fights. TELL me that doesn't sound awesome >.
@@meathir4921 You don't understand what i'm saying. I love the initial fights, but EX modes in FFXIV add new mechanics, new phases, new things to look forward to.
I feel the Odin / Barnabas fight was not bad. I liked it . It was more intimate .I know everyone expected the best eikon fight since he is the last and the most powerful but it is hard to keep topping eikon fights . Titan and Bahamut were crazy I don't know how they would top that off or even the last fight in the game . Plus no matter how good it is we would still feel tired of big eikon battles , bored even . Like all the time ..The devs gave something different and fresh , unique . This was a character and story driven battle . Two men who have different ideals , fighting for different causes . Both convinced of it . It makes you feel sorry for Barnabas knowing he fought for what he thought was right . Both wanted a new world . They just had different answers. Clive spoke for a man , spoke of being a man . It would have no value fighting as eikons . This was a fight as a man , with ideals and a sword . It still has issues , some of the eikon battles could have been playable , that stuff was amazing , and Odin could have used his dark magic and transport them to other dimensions or planes , that would probably top the space battle with Bahamut ,but it is still pretty solid .
Damn, they really expanded on odins capabilities in this game. Far from the one hit wonder he always was before. All the other eikons still retained what they were shown to be.
>When playing SF6 and losing to an opponent you're convinced is worse than you even though they're better "Could it be you've made a weapon of your weakness!?"
Does Max not read menus? Diamond dust is 1* damage but 5* stagger.... Should be used every time it comes off cooldown when opponent is not staggered. Gigaflare is opposite. Like... Bruh. C'mon.

That shot along with the kid-killing parallels: Dion killing Adon…er, Olivier, just made the allusion even stronger
I was waiting for Barnabas to go shirtless and start screaming at Clive about refusing to obtain power.
I get that Joshua was pissed and all, thinking that Clive had manipulated Jill into giving up Shiva. But Jill is the one who proposed it. The only thing Clive ever asked for was consent. And he never brought up that point.
You’re not wrong, but he’s more mad that he took away her agency.
Brothers hit eachother for more dumb reasons, he simply was giving Clive a wake up call with it, the rest he uses his words he’s a very smart man and knows Clive will listen to him, not only that but once Clive tells him that he thought it was what was right he backs off, because he realized he made a mistake in coming to the wrong assumption to what happened
I can’t believe Odin got sick, I hope he gets better soon😢
"its raw cranberry juice" followed by the spit noise got me good.
I found out Phoenix is really good for this fight with Barnabas because you can completely dodge blinding steel by shifting when he started casting 😂
Then Barnabas said "Foolishness Clive!" Before the fight then "scum" after owning Clive
Does Max eventually realize how OP shiva Eikon ability is and how good Diamond Dust is against the stagger? Odin and Shiva together make the hunts a breeze
Odin just invalidates most smaller fights with zantetsuken lvl 5. It's a bit too op. Although I got through ng+ way quicker with it.
I had to stop using them together because the fights got too boring. Very OP
I’d love to see max do Ultimaniac mode sometime, it’s crazy difficult
Clive: i need to face barnabas alone
Also Clive brings Torgal
From what I understand from Max's playthrough Ultima basically wants to make the Ultima Weapon by taking Ifrit and absorbing every other Eikon
The chronolith trials are a great way to get familiar with new eikon abilities and see the merits of each one. Pretty fun!
Odin on final fantasy mode is hard
Odin was my favourite Eikon... I wish the battle was as crazy as Bahamut or Titan! 😫
We already fought Barnabus 😑
I wonder did Max catch the dmc Easter egg lol Clive is basically Dante (red) and the Odin dude is Virgil (blue) (that’s why his blade cuts like Virgil’s ) also tower stage is the dmc3 tower hints you make it to the top and your running in the rain like you did before the Virgil fight lol
@@RicochetForce facts because that whole stage i was “I’ve seen this before lol” hell they both look alike
Odin is insane
The trials were really fun. I had a lot of trouble with Garuda and the Bahamut one.
Garuda was tricky because the launcher kept killing the enemies before I could get the bonus. Bahamut was a cakewalk as long as you're decent at dodging. The circle ability together with satellite melts the enemies.
Man...they had such an opportunity when they first come across the pregnant lady:
Scared lady looks up at the group: "Gav?....Is that you?"
Gav, looks around nervously, as Clive stares at him.
Scared Lady, now raises up in anger: "You! You said you were going to get some supplies! That was 6 months ago! You bastard!"
Gav, ducking behind Clive: "I swear, baby, I was telling the truth! I was going to come back, honest! Clive needed me for a quest, didn't you Clive?!"
Clive, holding his hands up and stepping aside: "Don't drag me into this, Gav."
How would that work out with the whole "Ash has closed borders and no one from Storm knows pretty much anything about it"
The obvious reason why there isn’t a proper Eikon battle vs Odin is because they don’t want to downgrade the player by not having the Phoenix mode on.
Clive and Barnabas for the next Dissidia game. It works too well
Barnabas would be looks a bit too similar with Garland though in there
@Test-mq8ih I thought the same thing, but i think Barnabas would be like the teacher's pet of the villains. Even Garland's up to his own stuff but Barnabas would out there doing everything the big bad wants INCLUDING getting the other villains on task. Him trying get Emperor, Kefka, Sephiroth, Zenos, and Exdeath on the job would be peak fiction lolz
I love at 55:13 we figured out ffXVI has re4 mercenaries
I pray to god we see more future final fantasy games are within the R to border lining AD rating? 🙃
Cold Snap works sooo good against Barnabas, he literally can't ever do the disappear move as soon as he does cold snap and he'll re appear frozen, Jill gives it to you to fight him for a reason Max, JS.. :)
Odin is my second favorite. I get DMC 3 Vibes with Vergil on the Tower.
one of the coolest fights i've ever done
I wish I would have looked at this build for my NG+ play through. I liked having my magic and physical counters so never looked at large damage builds.
Best Villian theme since One Winged Angel!
Barnibas was the best antagonist of 16. Hands down
The Odin fight was pretty cool (should see his attack if you don't finish him before the countdown, crazy) maybe there could've been a longer Eikon battle you actually control in the middle. But the melee combat felt right.
I need this game because of reasons.
Have you tried FF mode? Fights are real there; they will kill you in 3 hits if you don’t heal efficiently.
LOL that Rictus of Horror move also killed me in my playthrough. Haha
Damn, they really expanded on odins capabilities in this game. Far from the one hit wonder he always was before. All the other eikons still retained what they were shown to be.
One of the baddest fights in final fantasy history right here
>When playing SF6 and losing to an opponent you're convinced is worse than you even though they're better
"Could it be you've made a weapon of your weakness!?"
Does Max not read menus? Diamond dust is 1* damage but 5* stagger.... Should be used every time it comes off cooldown when opponent is not staggered. Gigaflare is opposite. Like... Bruh. C'mon.
Whenever Max starts NG+ he should take off the potions and hi-potions from the shortcut. I did that to make Final Fantasy difficulty a proper hard mode and I loved every minute of that second play through.
It's sad that the only way to make this game have anything resembling a proper level of difficulty is to cripple yourself, but yeah.
@@deedoubsjust like most games
@@deedoubshow do you propose a maker create a few settings of difficulty that perfectly suit millions of players? The only way you do that is introducing a toggle system across many variables and that's way too daunting for the vast majority of players.
Lets be real. He's not going to replay this game anytime soon
@@CamOfSpam he might and just skip cutscenes
2:33:04 *chef's kiss*
I'm on my second playthrough now and after really trying to learn how to use them best, I'm going to do an Odin/Bahamut focused playthrough. They're busted as FUCK once you figure them out.
Crazy how Edda, a side character, the best looking girl in the game by a mile
FF16 mentions conscious like Xenoblade mentions the future 😂
Good lord Barnabas turned into zenos for a bit there
Leviathan DLC? Mass Effect 3? XD
Combat in this is beyond
I wonder if the medicine girl that helps Dion is the same npc in the Dhalimek place trying hard to sell her potions.
@@RicochetForce Oh really? I had realization only when I saw this scene again. I even finished final fantasy mode and still didn't notice.
It is the same npc she appears throughout the game, she's always carrying medicine and either selling it or offering it, like when Joshua got sick on the way to the Dominion or when helping Dion.
just noticed that this is one of the very few times in a FF game that sleipnir doesn't have 4 legs.
Which is actually accurate to mythology lol
Imagine odin ate a crystal lol..
Could probably slice the planet in two if he got as big as Titan Lost.
Mid: "If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be worth doing, would it?"
PHRASING!!
Is it just me or does it sound like Barnabas was a drama kid in his kid years.
Odin held back.
Not at the end he didnt lol
Was Joshua reviving Max during the Pandemonium fight? You could see a flame floating next to Clive, and his health went down to zero whenever he got hit by the big laser, then the flame disappears
The small orb of flame Joshua uses gives you one hit of invincibility.
@@azuredeath thanks, I wasn’t sure what it was
Did the story even explain how Barnabas could rule for more than 40 years when he look like someone in his 40.
Are dominants naturally have longer life span when they're not using their power or something?
I got that Ultima kept him alive because he was such a nut job for him because of his mom's cult that worships Ultima. Dude is like over 100
@@Plasmacat1nah "over 100" is pushing it, Vivian said he conquered all of Ash when he was "barely a man" meaning 16-17 years old tops. Add 40 to that and he is just 56-57 my dude. 😂
Max burned the entire stream!!! muhahahaha
Soultaker fight: Max wasn't even done, that is premature annihilation muahahahaha!!!!
Bro barnabas fits the phrase, "The rantings of an upjumped zealot make for tedious listening".
Listen Barnabas is good, but it is the worst Eikon battle because it isnt one. I loved the Barnabas fight. But i'm selfish and wanted Odin too.
But the new eikon abilities are perfect
Max never took on the Goenitz boss challenge yet.....
