The most interesting thing about the resolution to Annabelle's story is that you learn that she isn't possessed or mind-controlled: she's just a horrible person. She murdered her family, her citizens, anyone in the way of her perceived nobility, and uses the memory of Clive and especially Joshua as both justification and a source of pity, even after being the direct cause of their suffering and supposed death. Then the consequences of her actions finally catch up to her and she has nowhere to run, no plots to fall back on, no one to blame except herself. When she is directly confronted by Joshua, the one person she can't lie or justify to and who seems ready to give her a chance, she has a mental breakdown and avoids taking responsibility for her actions in the most selfish way possible.
It's also super funny because she has been obsessed with bloodline and it's importance. She actually did end up birthing the literal child of fate with Clive. What a dumbass.

I sure as hell won't miss her, and I'm certain that Clive won't either.

Hilarious given that I was onto her antics from the start of the game. Would've been crazy had she been a final boss. But, she was powerless in the end.
Nobility is empty without purpose and without a cause greater than oneself. It was all her that caused that bloodshed. And hell, I am a big fan of Dion. He got his wish to strike at Ultima. Bonus part is that he was a well written gay character. I hope we have more in the future. 😌

I thought she had some of Ultima's influence in her? Hard to say how much or how long, but there are a couple things that make me think so. First, she thought Joshua was a shadow monster. Second, she saw Olivier disintegrate into shiny blue particles but didn't question it. Also, when she brought him to negotiate with Kupka, the toy was glowing blue. Seems like she was being manipulated by the boy.
Not sure if the emperor suffered Ultima's influence too. Maybe he became more cruel in his own?
The entire Dion/Twinside subplot all the way to the Bahamut fight, and its aftermath, is peak Final Fantasy. Phenomenal

Before the game was released I was wondering what kind of person/character would be worthy of Bahamut? How could they come up with a battle that could encapsulate Bahamut's strength and legacy? How could they believably explain Ifrit besting him? They nailed it all. Dion is a character definitely deserving of Bahamut and you needed both Ifrit and Phoenix to only subdue him.

The parallels with Clive were intense, and dude was done so dirty: both manipulated by Ultima and Annabella into killing the family closest to them, and tragically pitted against each other in the greatest spectacle of a boss fight in video game history. On top of his admirable loyalty to his kingdom, his people, and his allies, Dion subverted my expectations of what kind of side character I thought he would be. Stellar character
@@berk6413 And Dion as a person is not overwhelmed or trivialised as Bahamut's counterpart. You see that in the affection he holds for people he loves. From the trailers I wondered if Bahamut's dominant would be corrupted or buckle under pressure, but Dion had a backbone. Conflicted Prince of Light and commander of the dragoons. Multilayered and overall really well done...and with very limited screen time.
Yeah its very epic but too bad its more similar to dmc than ff.
The most hype thing about the Bahamut fight was discovering that Bahamut is, in fact, nearly as powerful as Donald Duck.

Bahamut's Zettaflare powered by the crystal lost to Clive + Joshua while Donald Duck just straight up one shot the main antagonist with his own power, Donald's own MP and magic stat alone is equivalent to Bahamut + crystal.
I know its a joke but if we get technical I dont think all Zettaflares are created equal. A lvl 50 casting a Flare vs a Lv 1000 casting a Flare will be different. Donalds Zettaflare was incredibly powerful but Bahamuts wouldve destroyed the world.

Only way to confirm is if Prince Dion makes an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 4, which I would unironically love to see.
The cutscene with Dion killing his father is easily the best in the game in my opinion. The voice acting is incredible.

Dion's monologue, especially the delivery on those last two sentences. Absolutely incredible. Top 5 monologues in gaming.

This fight is just unbelievable on so many levels. Even a big budget movie would struggle to be this epic. The fact that they did this in a video game at this level of quality and detail is insane

I agree, gameplay, story and cinematic combined in this game is doing a great job. That fight was insane.
2:03:00 Ben Starr's performance was always peak, but that whole speech really hit me. The way he mixes both anger and anguish in his voice
I absolutely love this growl he adds when Clive is truly angry at someone. His performance was amazing through the whole game in general ^^
After he finished his sentence I legit was like “preach it, brother!”
I love how jill and Joshua ws shocked when Anabella pulls a knife to her neck while clive was like "do it bittccc"
Anabella: "How is it that YOU survived and Joshua is dead!?"
Clive: "The fuck are you talking about? Do you not see or hear the giant Phoenix outside the window fighting Bahamut RIGHT NOW!?!?"

Fun fact that bit were risen ifrit colliding with the zettaflare and going through it was a reference to final fantasy 14 though the move was terraflare in that one

I love how Clive's voice kinda reverts back to his younger days when it comes to Joshua's safety. Even though he knows his little bro is a big boy now, he's still his little bro. And ofc he can't forget the trauma of having lost him once before. Such great voice acting, really nailing Clive's mentality as a big brother.
And their reunion after the fight hit so hard. Wow.
I love the voice acting in this game. Hearing it in Japanese doesn't hit for me. It's honestly how I felt about the anime Gurren Lagann. Incredible anime both dubbed and subbed. But I'm strictly dubbed for it because of how epic the voice acting is!
Clive is probably my favorite Final Fantasy main hero.

That fucking irony with Anabella was absolute gold. She thought Joshua was dead? Here’s the Phoenix right in front of her. She thought Clive never awakened? Here, for the first time, Clive transforms into Ifrit without any effort whatsoever. Damn. She must’ve been 👁️👄👁️
She wanted political power? Homegirl had not one, not two, but THREE Dominant children living in her home.

That's the irony of her situation - that her greed got the better of her and if she had just been humble she could have gotten everything she'd wanted. Instead she ended up with nothing - her two sons and her ward disliked her and her new son was a stillborn corpse puppeteered by an uncaring hive mind.

Funnily enough, the game has some form of dynamic music operator installed, that tries to match the hype with the music and feeds the right strings of music into each other.
That was pretty cool.
When I was playing this part I was thinking to myself "I hope the game isn't trying to make us feel sorry for this woman. I'm literally ROOTING for her demise." The only disappointing thing about her dying is that WE didn't get to do it 💯

As much as I want this to happen, I think story wise it doesn't make sense for
Clive or Joshua to end their own mother.
Joshua cannot do it because deep down he still care for his mother.
Clive will not do it because even though he despise her, he still has his honor and will never let himself become "kinslayer"
Jill doing the blow will make us feel good as the player, but imagine what will the other Rostfield brothers think of her.
So yeah Annabella doing that to herself, although it is anti-climatic but it is actually the best to happen story wise. Her story needs to end there and that trauma and shock that leads to the breakdown is satisfying.
Although I am pretty sure everybody will be okay if Torgal smack her neck like he did in Benedicta fight.

That whole sequence is just peak “TWO BROTHERS!” content. My wife was watching me play through it and we were both getting teary eyed and she’s like, “this is like Fullmetal Alchemist all over again,” and I’m like “holy shit it’s exactly like FMA all over again.”

I have never been left with my mouth open like an idiot during a boss fight, I couldn't help but chuckle when it ended. Videogamey AF, I love it. This will go as one of the best moments in the franchise for sure.
This has to be the single best boss fight I've personally ever experienced in 30 years of playing videogames.
The variety of the phases, the cutscenes, the music going higher and higher... This game is amazing.
It's like the Alexander vs. Bahamut fight in FF9. But you actually got to control it.

There are some protagonists i'm more attached to but for badassery alone he lands in my top 3. Then his character brought him up to 2nd for me.
Just watching Max's reactions during the Barnabas' bare ass scene was hilarious
The whole 'Fire in the Sky' sequence gave me huge FF9 vibes. Being on rooftops, getting the scope of the city, reminded me so much of the Bahamut vs Alexander cutscene. Love this game
There are so many FF9 parallels in this game. I love it.
The Sequence with Bahamut was a love letter to FF14, not necessarily FF7. Look up the Binding Coils and Ultimate Bahamut fights.
Everything from being shielded by the Phoenix, the phoenix using Rebirth on you, the Phoenix staggering Bahamut, and then the final sequence with the beam to Bahamut being pierced was shot for shot what happened in the "Flames of Truth" trailer.
True i think the Bahamut in space was a nod to several previous bahamuts. Because i think he attacks from space in several games but the fight as a whole is definetly a nod to FF14
Can't blame the guy he is a huge FF7 fan and I don't think he ever even made it thru Heavensward. While I get him seeing the references as FF7 AC, it is definitely moreso referencing 14
unfortunately he’s one of those people that is so ff7 brained that everything has to be compared or a reference to it. At least Max isn’t one of the toxic cocky fans, but there’s far too many of them. Rebirth come release and be a solid 5/10 game, and they’ll still have far more interest in it than this, and argue it’s a better game.
Considering FF14 is also kinda a love letter to previous FF series, Max is not exactly wrong either~

@@Nic_Ryuu FF14 is absolutely a love letter t0 the whole series with a ton of references and nods to many directly, it’s just that scene in question is 100% a reference to 14 in this instance. For example, so many references in EW are meant to be direct FF4 nods more than anything.
They did Bahamut justice as the poster of Final Fantasy franchise! Any newcomer to the series will know who the most iconic character across Final Fantasy is with this fight! Dion is also a great character and worthy of being the dominant of Bahamut! This was a spectacle to say the least and all that did not even kill, but only subdued Bahamut! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

This entire section as well as the lead up to it was spectacular. They definitely did not cut back on the budget they used in this fight. The nod to Flames of Truth at the end was such an amazing tribute for those who did the Coils of Bahamut questline in FFXIV.
They really should have spread the budget out better, cause the rest of the game feels pretty underbaked
This game didn’t seem under budget at all. It is only undercooked from a perspective of design philosophy.
The lackluster RPG mechanics for example, that seem to be put in just because they “had to” in a sense, instead of it fitting in the game.
@@Eversoul12agree. I haven’t beaten the game yet, but after the second or third big fight, I knew the rest of the game was going to follow the same structure. I’d have to get through all the boring stuff to reach the epic stuff.

You know what's really sad about Anabella? She called Dion's biological mom a whore who would sell her son for gil, but instead of being the loving mother he never really had, she chose to be even more ruthless and conniving. Dion deserved so much better because all his life, he's been at the mercy of people who take advantage of his kindness.
I agree- Dion is now forever a beloved character in the series because of these traits.
Woolie and Pat have said that ff16 is a gateway drug to getting into ff14 and the bahamut fight encapsulates that completely. The last push against the Zetaflare is actually a reference to a cinematic from ff14s first raid and the ARR trailer. Though that could have very well have taken inspiration from Advent Children
The flame shield of clive protecting Joshua and jill is so well damn done. I had even more goosebumps after the beatiful VA work
Kinda surprised it took them 16 mainline games to fuse Summons Together. Like wow and that fight bro.
Ifrit and Garuda do it in the Eden Raid series, they fuse into Raktapaksa, which looks actually a bit similar to Ifrit Risen.
Bro nobody remembers that charging the L2+Square ability with Ifrit makes you invincible, you are suppose to use it to tank all the big AOE attacks 😂

Bahamut is straight up DBZ with brother Kamehameha, Fusion, fighting Beerus in space and finishing Bahamut with a Dragon Fist just like how Louisoix defeated Bahamut in ARR
It is also the classic Japanese rivalry colours of red and white, with Ifrit + Phoenix looking like the melee based Justice Gundam and his backpack, while Bahamut looks like Freedom Gundam with his laser and DRAGOON(bits) spam along with the same particle and light effects of Strike Freedom's Wings of Light.
Yea DBZ and Gundam immediately popped into my mind.

Yeah this is a reference to the Flames of Truth cutscene where Louisoux defeats Bahamut after teleporting the heroes away (And also becoming the Primal Phoenix in the process)

Man, the way Clive just walked up to that beam blast by Bahamut just before priming to tank it was so badass.
Never would've expected a whole SPACE BATTLE between Ifrit Risen and Super Bahamut (idk if that's the official name or not, just felt right with the gold). And the MUSIC. Holy fuck.
I would say Anabella is a lot worse than Cersei.
So i havent played much past this part, so i'm REALLY hoping that at some point soon, Josh and Clive just sit there for a second and have the following conversation. "...brother. About that...fight...against Bahamut." "Yes. I know." "...we went to _space_ Brother. Above the world...amongst the stars." "...That we did." "...do you think anyone will believe us, Brother?" "Not in the fucking slightest."

That white dragon fight was the first time I've seen this game and thought "That looks like a lot of fun". Also, Ultima is such a cool looking villain. I can't get enough of seeing him. He's just neat to look at

The FF1 theme they used there (2:01:45), brought tears to my eyes. I played that game 33 years ago.

For myself, fighting against Bahamut was the second boss where I literally sat there and teared up over how spectacular it was, especially when Clive and Joshua joined together. The visuals, the music, the variety of phases was quite the experience to behold.

Baldur’s gate has some really good Voice-Actor-Ass Voice Acting all round but I’m deeply impressed with all the FF16 performances. As acting and as characters, they’re so consistent and cohesive with the world, just beautiful work. FF7R’s goofball side quest dialogue feels like a distant memory here
Dion is so amazing and well written, but my heart aches for him because he really had a tragic life. But he had Terence that loved and supported him through it all: I cannot imagine if he hadn’t had him😢

Nobody ever notices that when leaving the city, Joshua actually picks up Goetz at the plaza when flying away. Love that small detail.

I loved how the Rosaria brothers proved Annabelle how wrong she was. She bemoaned Joshua for not having the strength and Clive not worthy to be blessed, and yet both brothers showed otherwise respective to her stereotypes in their fight against Bahamut, one with the strength to fight and one worthy to be an Eikon of Fire in his own right.
Already watched the other version! Yeah... That Barnabas scene... 😅 The definition of awkward. 100% would be the scene that Mom walks in on.

I'm really not sure what Max wants from the sidequest dialogue. The scene with Otto at the end of the star ruby quest is one of the best in the game. Even the most mundane quests almost always have SOME sort of twist or interesting detail. The bandit quest at the beginning of this part, for instance. They're way more tightly crafted than most MMO chores.
Besides, FFVIIR had you chasing cats.
Some folks don't like chatty chatty games and since most side quests are super miserable I get it can be too much. It's felt more because of how badly distributed they are. The Hideaway stuff should be main quest especially the ones for Jill, Torgal, Joshua, etc.
FF7R has 25 side quests total and are paced in a decent manner. FF16 has 76 side quests that outnumber the main quest and are poorly placed and honestly redundant. How many quests do you need to drive home the point that bearers are treated like shit? or how many quests do you need to lead you to the same scorpions youve been fighting the whole game. The whataboutisms between the 2 games isnt even comparable. FF7R is way less egregious and doesnt destroy the pacing like these quests do

@@Plasmacat1 But you don't HAVE to do the sidequests and hunts just because they open up. If you want the pace of the main story to pick up, you can always save side stuff for later and keep the main quest moving.
They get particularly good in the 3rd act when they become more about unifying and strengthening various the towns communities across the world, building new settlements and rebuilding government
Glad to see this is back, again I think this is the best fight in the game.

Ifrit Risen VS Bahamut probably my favorite boss and my favorite track in the game. I want to hear those violins at the game. 100/10 Peak gameplay there.
I wouldnt expect Clive or Joshua to kill Annabella, but i can definitely see Jill doing it. Should have ice cubed her off the tower.

Dion really is an all around tragic character, even at the end they give us a slight speck of hope that maybe dion would come back with the tomes side quest and be able to truly grieve, and yet he dies instead, not to mention him accidentally killing his father which he loves very much as is obvious with how he acts

that zetaflare ending was homage to Louisoix final blow to the Bahamut in FF14, I almost teared up seeing that.

I thought the fight with Titan Lost was something. But the events leading to the Bahamut fight, and the causes. This is the best part of the game that I have played through 😁
Sanbreque and Dion's entire arc could've easily been the entire game. It was so awesome

I can't stop to watch that fight. The music, all the phases, the drama with the mother, that's the best part of the game.
I also agree that the removing of the blur is a game changer. It looks a lot better without the blur.

After Titan i was like "how the f*ck they gonna top that?!" Then comes Bahamut and blows that fight out of the water, now I can't wait to se what's up with Odin, and how the final fight against Ultima is going to go, one thing you can't deny is this FF has the most over the top kick ass boss fights ever.

To be fair he started whipping out all his forms' moves. He went Bahumut, then Neo with Giga Flare, Zero with Teraflare, and i guess SHIN with Zetta?
This is both a reference to advent children and a reference to the secret ending of the opening for final fantasy xiv that was left unexplained unless you do the mortal coil raids. In the opening, your character rep gets teleported out right before bahamut was going to burn that world so you dont know what happens unless you see whats left of bahumat in those raids. You find out the old man who saved your ass, louisoux, instead of dying goes super saiyan as a final sacrifice, powers through bahumats tetraflare to dragon punch him through the gut. And its the same glowing animation where he hit him as with this ifrit fight
That scene when the two brothers reunite after a life or death situation is very, very nice.

I already said this before the original video was taken down so I’ll say it again. That Bahumut alone just makes this game of the year for me. Also I kinda wish Dion was a party member so we can at least see him action more other than him being Bahumut.
I was thinking the same. Uff how I wish we could play as Dion, using his spear and Bahamut powers. That would be so fun.

@@Eversoul12dude the whole game is filled with epic moments like this. It's just that this boss fight puts to shame 99% of games and their boss fights.
The Bahamut fight felt more like the final boss than the final boss himself. Ultima is probably the weakest antagonist in FF history, so cliché, so predictable and so in line with cheap modern fantasy tropes. Cannot leave this game other than feeling disappointed tbh.
It's a shame the pacing and bombardment of side quests late game turned him off from this to the point he doesn't even consider it a GOTY contender 🙃
nothing wrong with his opinion but i did find it a little silly given how much he loves Asuras Wrath given how bad its gameplay is over its cutscenes.

Watching Max is such a joy. Love the combs of skills he puts together, can not wait to see what he does with some of the later skills

I think what Ultama did was do an experiment on the bahamut guy to test out what the "Consciousness" is. This whole session wasamazing. Love to seeing kaiju battles like this, cant wait for the next vid
