A incredibly well written script that left me hanging on every word. The smallest detail is integral to the larger plot and I found myself being drawn into the intricately woven con until they pulled the rug from under my feet. Top notch writing, acting, and directing!
He wasn't asking her. He was telling her he knows what she wants. And it was labored sounding because he is actually conning her. There's also a syncopated staccato that goes along with Mamet dialogue. So...there 😋
I just watched this movie. I thought some of the scenes were good but overall it was a mess. It was laughably predictable and stiffly acted. the ending was so cheesy I thought I must've missed something. is the big con the one Mamet pulled over his audience to make us think that this is some sort of excellent movie? if so, it is a masterpiece is subversive meta film making commentary. if not, it's just cliche ridden and predictable as hell. pretty disappointing.
Best movie of the 80's hardly anyone remembers. On my top 6 for FILMS of the decade.
I have noticed that the best films of the 1980's are the ones that would have gotten more attention if they were shot in the 70's.
Watched this last night, it's absolutely outstanding. Should be a classic.

Saw it randomly on TV 20 yrs ago and loved it. Mamet, noir, simple sets, close ups.
This is a masterpiece a must watch
Amazing film, even after 30+ years.
just saw this movie... I didn’t expect the ending such a classic
I would watch House of Games and the Usual Suspects together in a double feature.
Excellent movie. Easily a 10/10.
Joe Mantegna sure has starred in a lot of films before Criminal Minds. He also has guest starred on several tv shows.
He's Fat Tony on The Simpsons, for one thing. ;)
love this film tons
Highly recommend not watching the trailer until after you’ve watched the movie, the trailer gives too much away. This is a GOOD engaging film.
love this film
House of Games and Matchstick Men both blind-sided me.... but I guess I'm an easy mark.
The way he said, ''You wanna make love with me" made me burst out laughing
That delivery was so bad!!!
i dont agree. It make me feel to answer yes even if hes not handsome
It's called " method acting... " .

It's the dialogue and delivery of David Mamet. There's nothing left to chance. It's deliberate, often stilted, and integral to each character.
Excellent cast combined with a spectacular script! Check out our full review here: th-cam.com/video/0HXWSngKN-M/w-d-xo.html
Joe Mantegna
Air Heads
House of Games
Baby Day Out
The Simpsons
Criminal Minds
Not forgetting Things Change, with Don Ameche. Mamet's second film after this and almost forgotten, shamefully.
Who ever told Joe Montegna that he could act?
All that doctor stuff...

It’s a B movie.
It has it scenes, true, but don’t expect too much.
