A good shooter doesn't just need fun weapons, it needs fun enemies to shoot with said weapons, and the absolute rainbow of creatures the Hollow provides gave Gears of War some *really* fun enemies. Personally, I enjoy the tickers. They're cute in a freaky, teeth-chattery sort of way.
I feel like these creatures should have survived the emulsion bomb if they were the wild versions not tampered with by the locust. It could've made gears 4/5 more interesting if the COG then started using them to rebuild society. Plus Cole could've been seen as a type of equestrian with Reavers since he called the one he rode horsey and seemed to care about it.
Recently I started thinking about E-Day and the early stages of the war. From what I pieced together it seemed like the Kryll were crucial to the Locust victories in the early stages of the war. Due to the COGs demobilization and the surprise of the first two days of the war, the locust were able to overwhelm any resistance they faced. But the wiki states that when the COG mobilized they were able to check the Locusts advance, apparently turning the tide in Tyrus as well. But without the Kryll they wouldn't have been able to destroy cities as efficiently, or overwhelm COG strongholds. Personally, using Gears Tactics as a reference, the Hammer of Dawn Strikes were ineffective and the COG should have instead launched something akin to the Lightmass Offensive to try and destroy the kryll.
The lightmass bomb was a relatively new weapon at the time. Plus when you're getting attacked from everywhere including the air and under the ground it must be hard to figure out their weakness.
@@justiron2999 I think you and the op both have a point here. On one hand they should've used something simmilar to the lightmass bomb instead of the Hammer of Dawn but on the other, I think they were working with the best weapons they had at the time especially considering that they were being overwhelmed. The Hammer of Dawn just bought the Seran's enough time to not be outright destroyed.
@@jmsgridiron5628 To add onto this the novels made it clear that despite humanities best efforts during the first year of war the Locusts were constantly overwhelming humans with their superior numbers, and massive amounts of Hollow creatures (a Brumak alone could wipe out probably over a hundred soldiers.) They kept taking city by city in a short amount of time, and worse they were able to salvage and repurpose any left over weapons from all the human soldiers they killed. The Hammer of Dawn in the grand scheme of things was meant to put a stop to their unstoppable march on Sera. But the C.O.G knew that it was never going to kill them all, just buy them time to properly muster their defenses and try and hold them back from the few cities left standing.
I just had a thought: do you think the way General Raam controls the Kryll, he controls other creatures, (Corpsers, Brumaks, Reavers, Drones, etc.) telepathically as well? Maybe Queen Myrrah controls him as well? Maybe the entire Locust Horde has a telepathic bond that they hear like the COG's TAC-COM, you ever think of that?
Well the swarm in the newer gears games are a hive mind and can communicate within each other, so it wouldn’t be too far fetched if the locust had some ability to communicate as well, maybe to a weaker extent
Yes the queen can telepathically communicate with the locust but idk if locust can telepathically communicate to other locust or if they just speak to eachother
I wouldn't put it past them to be able to do so. Myrah is a sire so it is very possible. And Raam could be a very close descendant to a sire. Since Myrah is a direct descendant from a sire making her one and she can telepathically communicate with the Locust, I don't believe it's far fetched to believe that Raam has a similar ability but weaker than Myrah's
I hope in "E-Day" we see Reavers that are troop carriers. That'd be cool, seeing them with side saddles for up to four to six soldiers to ride in with loops for them to rappel down from. (I saw that in "Tactics" Reavers were used as troop carriers, and thought it made no sense that they didn't do that to begin with.)
When you get to control a Brumak in Gears of War 2 will always be badass! Reeking havoc on the Locust horde was a power fantasy. *Rest in Peace Dom & Maria*
I think Tempest's beam attack could be like the chemical based laser we use on modern warships. Just a thought, but imo it more interesting then just chalking it up to emulsion.
I’m just wondering why we never saw a Lambent Corpser. I mean in Gears of War 1 we saw that open Corpser sink in that pool of Imulsion. That just drown it? I am just curious if a Corpser could become lambent. I also wonder what happened to the Corpsers after the Imulsion Countermeasure was set off if any survived.
Alot of speculation is because they're so heavily armored on their legs they just sink and drown due to the weight. Another way of speculation..is that most were wiped out with the nexus flooding
@@Nenshokaze true. The tickers are not exactly small. You left out that they can swallow any weapon which makes the gears believe they have a black whole inside them. When they are killed sometimes a weapon they swallow will pop out
Not all the locust were killed in the hive Buster's DLC for gears 5 you learn the islander chick was part of a unit that hunted the remaining locust into extinction even killing the babies It's even possible that maybe the locusts are still around in the swarm

A lot. The humans in Gears live on a world called Sera. Sera is not a colonized world like in Halo or Mass Effect, instead, its the world the people and creatures come from. Basically it's earth but much much different. Back to your question. The difference between a gear and normal human is the sheer amount of bulk that an average gear displays. A normal human would look like any average Joe here on earth. Not too tall, nor too weak. Here's when things start looking different. A long standing theory concerning why the people are so huge comes from the fact that Sera is not Earth. Meaning, that humans as a whole evolved slightly differently than how real life humans did. Since Sera is a naturally hostile and unforgiving place by it's own nature, the humans of Sera evolved to be much more muscular in order to compete with what else was living on the surface at that point. If the Hollows critters were deadly than imagine what other creatures lived on the surface at that time as well. Hopefully this long-winded explanation answers your question.
