David… why aren’t you baptized yet? Lol. And you know what? I KNEW you were going to say that you saw a red bird or cardinal in the temple mural. I absolutely know that that symbol is the spirit guiding you. It’s a huge step to commit to baptism given your Protestant background. He is waiting and so is your ancestors.

I began looking into the LDS church when I was 18 years old. I came from a Protestant church background just as you do. I took the missionary discussions and had some very spiritual experiences. 6 weeks later I was baptized a member of the church. 2 years later I found myself serving a 2 year mission for the church. That was 50 years ago. I’m now 70 years old and I serve regularly in the Boise Idaho Temple every week. I can tell you that I had some impressive spiritual experiences, just like you, but nothing compared to the avalanche of spiritual experiences that I had after baptism and even to this day. You need to get baptized, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and then go forth in faith! What have you got to loose? Among other blessings I’m sure that there is a faithful Latter-Day Saint woman that is waiting for you. You’re ready brother! Now just do it! I promise you that great blessings will follow! It doesn’t mean that your life will be perfect or troubled free but you will have the faith and strength to deal with it.

I was born and raised LDS and my experience was that they abused children in many different ways. I served as full time missionary in Alaska. I got a degree from BYUI which opened my eyes and led me out of the Church. Once you see how the sausage is made, it makes it unappealing and unappetizing.

@@Lomochenko. I’m sorry to hear that you had such bad experiences. I hope that you’ve shared them with the proper authorities. Things like that are totally unacceptable. In my own experience I have been making the sausage for over 50 years and have never witnessed anything close to what you’re describing. I hope that you’ve found peace. If you’ve been abused by family or other members of the church then that’s not the church, that’s those individuals and they should be reported to the proper authorities.

Hey man, I’ve watched your videos here and there but this one hit hard. Hearing you describe your experience with the Book of Mormon reminded me of the experiences I’ve had with the Holy Spirit testifying to me that the Book of Mormon is scripture. A more recent one is in 2020, we were following the Book of Mormon with our Come Follow Me yearly scripture curriculum, and at the end of the year one of the questions asked was “What has the Book of Mormon taught you about Jesus Christ?” and as I pondered on that question, that same overwhelming sensation of peace overcame me to the point of tears. I thought I knew who He was all my life but at that moment the Spirit opened up to me the scriptures I had read throughout that year where I then knew even more about our Savior and His character than I ever thought possible, and it’s still teaching me. I came to know once again that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God. Thank you for sharing your experience, and I wouldn’t call yourself an outsider. You’re definitely a disciple of Jesus Christ:)

I also did not get an answer or feel anything the first time I prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was true, so you’re not alone in that experience. My testimony came after I decided to keep persevering and asking the Lord to guide me, and eventually I gained an overwhelming confirmation that it was all true. Me too. I was not converted by the Book of Mormon. The Pearl of Great Price answered all my questions and I felt the spirit so strong in reading that. It wasn't until I was a member for maybe two years that I read the Book of Mormon. My, how my eyes were opened to this other testament of Jesus Christ. And all the prophets in the book testify of the Savior, the Redeemer. I was a lapsed Catholic, investigated other religions, but couldn't find one that came from Jesus Christ, like the Catholic church did. And the Protestants came from the Catholics, so I knew none of them were true either. When I studied with the missionaries, they told me this was a "restored" church. Restored by Jesus Christ! I thought, yes, that's what I'm looking for--the "true" church of Jesus Christ once again on the earth. He's God! He could do that! It's been 42 years and I've never looked back, only forward. Being a member is like continually obtaining a college degree that never quits.

I love your journey. I was a 2 week wonder completing all the discussions in that time period. I was going to a Christian church but not with my family. One of Mom's friends were seeing the missionaries and Mom insisted I sit down and listen with her. When I was 1 my baby sister died which upset my mother greatly. After the undertaker left Mom went to bed just sobbing. The wall opened up and the most beautiful scenery appeared around a woman Mom did not know. She was holding my baby sister and said, " Don't worry, I 'll take care of her until you get here." When I was 3 years old we visited my paternal Grandpa to pick blackberries at the family farm. Grandpa asked Mom how she was doing since Ginny had died. Mom told Grandpa the above story. He went on high alert and asked Mom what this woman looked like. She tried explaining but it was hard. He said, " Wait here" and ran to the house. Shortly thereafter he ran back to us with a photo in his hand. As he handed the photo to Mom, he asked "Was this the woman you saw?" Mom replied, " yes. Who is she?" He replied that she was my father's mother who died when he was 13."
For some reason, I remembered that occurrence. When the missionaries announced, " Families are forever", I knew it was true. When I began reading The Book of Mormon, I asked Heavenly Father if it was true. The deep peace I felt in answer to my query told me it is true. I have never regretted my decision tho it has not always been easy.

The Savior Jesus Christ on his earthly ministry gave quite a few Jewish leaders and others heartburn and sleepless nights due to his teachings and status quo shattering behavior. We frequently forget that Jesus Christ called on people to repent, not just to love one another. "Go and sin no more" was a common refrain from His lips.

I was sealed to my parents in the Manti Temple in 1981 after my dad was reactivated and my mom was baptized (she is who reactivated my dad oddly, before she was baptized as a convert). My first time back was on March 15, 2024 for its open house. We got there early, waited maybe 20 minutes to go through. It was only a refurbish and restore, the foundation was already strong so no crazy lifting and refitting was needed, what those early saints did and endured those 11 years made to build it is insane! Those people were strong, faithful, willing to endure actual hardships, they inspire me. On our way out, the wait was over 3.5 hours! It was windy, cold, but beautiful! I love these pioneer era temples so much. I can’t tell you how strong the presence of the spirit is when walking through them during the last few open houses. I absolutely CANNOT wait until 2026 when the Salt Lake City Temple reopens.

The craftsmanship of the Manti temple has touched me as well. It's like the testimony of those pioneers is still living through their creation-- the mill work, the murals, the loving and careful attention to detail. So glad it's being preserved and that those who aren't members had a chance to catch a glimpse, even if it's just for 3 weeks.

My name is Cathi Call. I am so glad that you had a good experience in Manti. A piece of Trivia that you might be interested in. The early pioneers in Manti were mostly Scandinavian. Can you imagine how different the desert of Utah was for them. When they were building the Temple they didn't know how to build a temple but they did know how to build a boat. So, if you look into the journals of the early builders and then check out the architecture you will see that they built it like a upside down ship.
As a newly wed I moved from Los Angeles to Manti. My first job here was as the secretary and researcher for the Utah State Historical Society on the Manti History project. I read all of the newspapers from from the area since the first paper was published in Sanpete County. It was hand written as they had no printing press at the time. The Sanpete Messenger is the second longest continuously published newspaper in Utah. I spent a whole summer in the dusty vault in the basement of the old county building cataloging records, deeds and legal documents. I read every personal journal I could get my hands on and interviewed the oldest towns folk. When you immerse yourself that much into the lives of those who settled here you become even more amazed in the faith and the skills needed to build the temple. Minerva was just a farm wife living here and her talents are appreciated all over the world. The artisans' were new immigrants from Scandinavia. While building they had families to care for and farms to run. Many traveled long distances to share their talents.
This is my favorite temple. My Husband and I were married and sealed in this temple 47 years ago on March 19,1977. I understand your desire to have a closer relationship with the Savior. I believe that your channel is pointing many to Christ no matter which denominations they belong to or choose to join. I am glad that you are giving the LDS church a look. It is so misunderstood. Only you and your Father in Heaven can decide if this is the church for you. I personally have a strong belief and testimony. Not because I was raised in the Church but because I got that confirmation for myself. The Savior loves each of us individually and knows us personally. You will always be welcomed in any LDS congregation no matter which way you choose to go.
Manti has had lots of practice with crowds. For 52 years we put on the Mormon Miracle Pageant for two weeks in July and in later years June. We hosted 100's of thousands of visitors every year. Manti has some amazing volunteers. When we had the floods of 1984 and 1985 the town got together and kept each other safe. When we had our famous tornado, the town had cleaned up everything before FEMA had time to inspect it. They got here with nothing to do. During the COVID lock down neighbors went door to door making sure that all of our residents had food and necessities. Neighbors would shop for their whole block. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
And Yes, the red bird in the garden room is indeed a cardinal.

I love the Manti temple as well. This was the "temple" for my husband's family who were amongst the early settlers of Manti and surrounding areas. Although there was a great contingent of Scandinavian settlers in the Sanpete county, they didn't come until the 2nd wave in the early 1850's. The original settlers in 1849 were of British stock, mostly Americans from New England and the Ohio Valley. Some arrived directly from Great Britain. My hubby's g-g-g-grandfather was the first bishop of Manti; he was known has "Father Lowry".

@@sarahpeacock9686 My family immigrated to Utah from Nauvoo, Illinois, then England and Denmark, via the Martin Handcart Company, to settle in the Sanpete valley. Their faith and determination that helped build the Manti temple serves to remind me that I can, and must do hard things. But I don't have to do it alone. We are never left alone.
God bless you David. May you find the peace you are looking for.

Its the most colorful temple. It has such a rich history. I was in tears listening to your thoughts on the protection and peace. You have touched so many with this video. I pray the doors that are opening for you lead to the peace that is being given to you. You are beginning to glow as you ponder this journey. You may want to look back a year ago when i started following your journey. Its noticeable!! Now it's time for general conference in 2 weeks. Listen carefully. One of those speakers will be talking just to you. Count on it! Happens every time for me. God bless you!! Your video touched my heart and made my day!

This was my favorite video you've done so far. I spent many days, many hours in a single day in the Manti Temple when I was at a very low point in my life. I was very sick, my husband left me for a (former) close friend of mine, and my children were traumatized. Time in this temple was the solace and peace I needed. I wish you all the best on your spiritual journey. I too, am a convert and felt the Spirit so strong with little "conicidences" along the way. One for me was a certain very pleasant smell when I was around very spiritual people and particular families. I wish you well, brother and keep the videos coming, I always look forward to yours showing up on my recommendation page.

As a follow-up to the above story, I nearly passed out in the sealing room one day and had to go to the infirmary there in the temple. A kindly Bishop and his wife visiting the temple that day from the other side of the mountain, took me under their wing, and bought me a meal in the cafeteria and slipped a $100 bill in my coat pocket when they dropped me off at home. Divine intervention and spiritual blessings from true "Saints". Precious memories serving in the Manti Temple.

David, thanks for sharing this and your experience. My family lived in Manti for 10 years and the area, people, and Temple are all so very special to our family. I was able to be cast as Moroni for the pageant one year which allowed me to stand atop the west tower in a white robe and place a trumpet to my lips. Neat experience.
We moved away two years ago, but were able to come back and bring our family through the temple on the second day of the open house. What a powerful and peaceful experience for us. I was reminded about how Elder Bednar came to Manti years ago and spoke about Elder Packer’s parable of the pearl and the box. As wonderful as the temple is, it is only the box made to hold what is the priceless pearl inside which is Christ and his atonement.
Your comment about feeling peace reminded me of a time while serving a mission. I had a horrible pneumonia while in the ghettos of west Philly. It got very bad and felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I had a special experience while praying and asking for help and making promises and afterwards felt the most perfect and penetrating peace I ever have before and since. My pain was 100% gone and I was able to sleep and soon improve.
There are no coincidences. Your tender mercies are gifts and signs from a loving savior. 1 Nephi 1:20 Good luck and God bless you!

I am so glad you were able to make it. The Sanpete Valley where the Temple is located holds Scandinavian Days celebrations in summer due to the immigration of Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish pioneers that helped with the construction of this sacred structure. Also, the Angel Moroni (as a mortal man) is purported to have dedicated this spot for a Temple in the latter days.

There are a couple of things you mentioned in this video that just started pouring into my mind from an experience I had more than twenty years ago...I thought I should share.
I was in my first area on my spanish-speaking mission in the Dominican Republic, my training companion was amazing with the language while I could barely understand more than a few words out of every two-minute conversation.
We were tracting, which is walking around the village looking for and approaching people to discuss the church with. We passed a house with a group of teenagers talking at the doorway. I had the impression ( not my own -- I was content to walk around and not talk to people. I don't like sales, I don't like awkward conversation--I can be a bit of an introvert) that we needed to talk to this group of kids. I think we got about fifty yards past the house before I said anything to my companion. My companion said we should go back, but that we'd go back when their parents were there so we could speak with the whole family.
We kept walking and I felt awful....like I was Jonah turning from Ninevah. A block or two down the road, I told my companion, "Sorry, I feel awful. We really need to go back there."
He listened so we returned to that house. We approached the group that was still outside introducing ourselves and said we had a message we wanted to share with their family. The kids laughed a bit, but were kind and told us to come back later that evening.
So we did. The girl who lived there, I'll call her Glory, was in her mid-teens, she was pretty engaged/interested but her parents never did care all that much about our message. So we had a young sister in our branch come along to befriend and help her come to church and go to activities and such if she wanted to. Glory began coming to church and to the youth activities. A few weeks later we were walking Glory home from one of the activities where she shared with my companion that she had not been living well, she was making bad choices and was stuck in relationships running around with the wrong crowd and felt completely trapped. She said she'd been praying for help, asking for a way out. She said, "the day we approached her I was told you represented the door."
She wanted to be baptized. The week of her baptism arrived, and so did the transfer call for my companion. He would be leaving days before Glory's baptism.
I was shell-shocked. My spanish sucked. My knowledge of the area was not that great. My relationships with the branch were not that great because my communication was so limited...and I had to take care of getting this baptism sorted out. To me the weight was immense, and logically, outside of the situation, I didn't need to be so stressed, but I was stressed. I didn't like my new companion's spanish. I didn't trust him. I felt the weight of organizing and carrying out the ordinance for Glory was all on me.
The night before the baptism the stress I had brought on myeslf induced the biggest headache of life. As I layed in bed for restless hours I prayed and told God how I just wanted to do what He wanted me to do, but that my spanish wasn't enough, my knowledge wasn't enough, and I thought I needed to be well-rested and sharp in order to be of any use but I had this monster headache. And couldn't sleep. I asked for him to take it away.
I felt an overwhelming warmth and peace descend over my entire body starting from my head, immediately ending the throbbing in my skull, and undulating down to my toes. It was as the most pleasant blanket had been laid upon me and quickly ushered in sleep. It was the greatest sleep I have ever had. It was peace.
I know the Lord is calling you. At some point you may be made to make a leap of faith before you 'know' but I'm confident you will know. I am enjoying watching your journey.

Our family enjoyed the Manti temple open house as well. It was a magnificent experience. We had previously attended the Manti temple before the renovation as we participated in proxy ordinances for ancestors. The open house allows the opportunity to see some rooms not accessible during the temple ordinances. It truly is the House of The Lord!

Best video yet David. My favorite temple is the San Diego temple where I grew up and was sealed to my wife. I remember in the 80’s the members in Southern California saving up money and doing fundraisers in order to pay for that temple. And what a blessing when it was dedicated. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. Would love to watch a video someday of you sharing your experience going through an operating temple as a Latter-Day Saint.

David, you are on a journey my friend. Carry on, you are on the path! My wife and I were married in the Manti Temple and five of our nine children have also. Your recap of the tour and the miraculous nature of its construction art and history has rekindled my love for that glorious building and how it captures our Savior's love. "Protection and Peace" is a beautiful summation; those words are nothing less than inspired language emerging from the Spirit in answer to your ongoing quest!

I find it so interesting that there were themes you noticed at each open house. Family, Growth, Foundation, Peace and Protection. All of those themes are everything and especially come together so strikingly beautiful by the image of the Savior dressed in cardinal red. Wow. I felt the spirit with that a ha moment. He is the ultimate cardinal who you are seeking to follow. And He is the heart and life of it all. It is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you for sharing so genuinely your experiences, thoughts and feelings. I greatly value genuine kind and honest people and feel so happy that you are doing this work because I see you doing this with with all of these qualities. It is a good thing to be engaged in and is adding real value to this journey for all of us.

I also want to add that when I visited this temple I was asked, with my husband, to be the witness couple during an endowment session. At the time the curtains in the temple were a very Cinderella blue color. I felt like I was so special to Heavenly Father that day. I felt like His little princess. Daughter of the King of Kings. And I knew He loved me and was making a very special day for me. I never felt like I wanted to bow so low in all my life to show how much I loved and respected Him in return. This is a very special and beautiful place to me.
And you are right, the attention to detail is amazing. The love and workmanship the pioneers put into this place is stunning. Right down to the hand carved hinges on the doors

David, I have been following your channel for a couple of years. I am a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and currently serving as a Senior Missionary in the Layton Utah Mission. Felt the Spirit today as I listened to you talking about your spiritual experience. I truly believe that the only thing holding you back from going forward is the faith to do what the Spirit is testifying for you to do. If you follow the promptings of the Spirit, which is the Spirit of Jesus Christ communicating to you all will be well.

I enjoyed your experience when praying about the Book of Mormon. I grew up in an LDS household and was determined to find my own way. Later, after reading the Book of Mormon I prayed and also received no answer. I repeated this for many nights. Finally, in desperation, I said to God: “I need to know one way or another. If I can have a clear answer, I will commit myself follow that answer no matter what.” That is when I had that immense flood of peace and joy. God was waiting for me to be willing to commit. Since then I have had so many reconfirmations of that answer, that the Book of Mormon is scripture as is the Bible. That Jesus Christ is the Savior. That we are saved by Grace. That our work in this life is to learn to follow Him.

Amazing video my friend. There is a connection between heaven and earth and I think you are finding it. I look forward to following your journey wherever it may lead you. My daughter was married in the Manti temple back in 2019. We are from Alabama and her husband is from Canada. But what a beautiful place it is. Protection and Peace. I love it!
