My dad got a 2012 XF-S saloon (all black and nice cream leather) and he is very happy with it. The car has run over 223000 km (over 138000 miles) and still going strong - no reliability issues yet. He previously had many BMW 3 and 5 series, but now he preferes the Jaag! I'm always pretty excited when I'm allowed to drive it. It is a really special car.
Partly because of this video, I bought myself an XF Sportbrake. Its a 64 plate , 3l V6 XF S, Portfolio spec and Black Edition. Pretty much identical to the car you have here but in black. The only concession to the black are the chrome Jaguar side details and the rear logo. Its an absolute beast, so thanks for the video.
Great review! As a past owner of the 3.0D saloon, I can agree the costs to maintain are not any higher than anything comparable and they are very reliable and a great drive. Only additional expense you didn't mention that potential purchasers should be aware of is the tendency for the rear discs and pads to need changing around every 25k miles, or sooner if you live in Milton Keynes with all the roundabouts! Go to a specialist rather than a main dealer and save a bundle, still using good quality manufacturer equivalent parts.
I’m military serving overseas but when I’m back I’m buying from this guy. Top videos, please keep them coming. FYI BMW 640 Gran Coupe is what I’ll be looking for😉
We had 2009 XF Portfolio . Loved it . On first road journey to Spain it packed up in France , had it done on warranty. I would not buy an old one with no warranty ,Mobutu loved it and still miss it despite having an excellent Lexus which is super reliable
Re: lack of seat travel. When it reaches it's forward limit, try holding the adjuster knob forward for more than 2 seconds. If it continues it's travel there may be a sensor fault. If it moves for half a second, it's in it's inch-by-inch mode. It's a function to prevent the driver being crushed against the steering wheel. Maybe it's a response to the demo graph of the typical Jag owner? (60+ and portly)
I have this car in this colour in the 2.2 R Sport sport break in Italian racing red. Everthing you just said was true and backed up all the reasons why I told the Mrs I'm not getting rid of it! 45mpg on the motorway, 27 round town. Looking back for a 2nd look is a daily thing when it's clean, everyone comments on it! It's really got under my skin and I love it! Even looked after me when the tyre blowout on a cold icey Morning! Top video!
Beautiful car. I have an XFR and the X250 XF is definitely the one to go for. Jaguar kept them in production for over 7 years and perfected it like a fine wine.
Owned the same model shown now for a few years and have loved it. No major issues, great form long and short trips etc. Did change the wheels down to the 19" ones to smooth out the ride as the 20" wheels are just too thin and easy to damage. Found all the old wheels were already slightly buckled due to potholes. One massive thing I was surprised you missed was the rear self levelling air suspension. This why it took so long to come out after the saloon as it was redesigned to be a dedicated estate rather than a saloon with a big bum. Did bring me some joy when speaking to guy who just brought a brand new £80k+ BMW 7 series, who was bragging about how it was one of the only cars with air suspension and how he would never go back now. So just lifted the boot cover and told him "yeah its nice, only paid 20k for mine though" ha ha.
Love Jags and I think the older XF looks much better. The New Jags could carry any badge they're getting so anonymous looking. And for the money I'd rather buy a Jag than pay more for a new Ford Fiesta. . Nice car that one you have . 😎
Had mine for five years to the day today, love it as much now as when I collected it. Choice of tyres makes a huge difference to feel and driving experience, it does tend to eat them.
I currently have an XF, and love it, having had BMW's in the past, which scared the life out of me with it binging and bonging for the least little thing. And I have only spent on servicing and brakes. The BMW's had sensors replaced and other parts replaced. Much prefer the Jag to drive
Good review. I had one of these for four years and 100,000 miles. Loved it and would agree with your comments about reliability. Mine never let me down and was every bit as reliable as the two Audi A6 I had before it
I owned two XF's the old 3.0V6 and the 2018 2.0 - I loved the 3.0 and sold the 2.0 within 6 months. I loved the mid range overtaking power of the V6 it was effortless and pulled like a train. Tech was the only thing that let it down as a bit dated.
It’s a truly beautiful car Matt. I had seen it on your website and was drooling over it 🤤. Even though I’m 57 I really liked the red and black leather seats, which look both sporty and rich. Thanks for another great review.
Beautiful cars, rather have this over any German car. Looks stunning, sporty while classy. I remember going in a workmates xf sv8 when he first bought it few years back, truly awesome cars.
I have a late 2013 3.0 litre XF Sportbrake Premium Luxury, which I have owned for over 4 years. Apart from regular servicing, replacement parts - tyres, brake pads etc., it has never given me any major problems. It's comfortable, handles well for a big car, fast when you need it and spacious enough to carry 2 large dogs in the boot. And, as you say, a good looking car that stands out in the crowd...what's not to like!
These are great cars, I had a 2013 2.2 litre model I bought in 2016 and sold last year. Nothing significant went wrong with it, although it did want to be serviced regularly. An unexpected bonus was that most parts were pretty cheap to replace (at least when compared to it's German rivals). Great review!
Beautiful looking car and on my list. I’m hanging on for twelve months and hopefully pick up one of the new 2021 sport brakes used with the tech upgrade...even more beautiful, especially in grey or electric blue with the black pack and panoramic roof. I also like the fact that although it’s not rare, the Jag just stands out as being a little more exclusive than your Audis and BMWs which are seemingly everywhere.
I have one of these. Exactly the same, model, colour, year, engine and trim. I think it is the best car I have ever owned and agree with everything he says. It is all you would expect from a Jaguar. I didn't but it because I needed the space, I bought it because I think it looks absolutely stunning. I still do and I still look back and admire it as I walk away and have had it well over a year! That says it all.
I bought my first XF S in 2017 and it was written off for me by a driver at a cross junction (I only owned it for 6 months!). Since then, I've gone on to own an A8, IS250, S80, A5...but nothing ever came as close to the XFS. Happy to say I now have an XF S again :D
Two and half yr ownership has been a pleasure. Two oil and filter services, changed all belts at 80k,one alternator and one water sensor in fuel filter. Recently took it 500 mile and averaged 54mpg,38mpg local. Leak in tailgate is easily cured by removing bumper, lights and putting bead of silicone around louvre rubber seals. Would love a f type but difficult to get rid of a car so reliable and pleasurable to own! Totally agree with Matt's honest review of this model.
Comprehensive road test. I bought one a year ago and it really is a lovely car, luxurious, sporty, refined, economical and well built. Give me a Jag over a Big Money Waster any day!
We have a 2014 2.2d saloon XF and it’s been ultra reliable. We have had it for 4 years, and like you said there were a couple of warning lights appearing. We replaced the battery and all the warning lights disappeared. We had an issue with the wiring loom of the rear view camera, but it was an easy £30 fix for a new loom kit. Love the reviews, love your honesty!
Enjoyed watching. I bought same car over 2 years ago. Love it. I noticed you didn’t have the heated steering wheel option that I thought was a gimmick but when cold I use all the time. Only annoying thing is the 20” wheels don’t like pot holes and buckle. I have a tyre that keeps gradually deflating due to a flat spot, that also causes a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I get about 34mpg generally and up to 40 on a decent run.
I own a Saab 9-3 2.2 TiD which I bought from new in 2002. I adore it, literally everything about it. I tried to replace it a bunch of times over the years, even buying other cars, but I never let it go and always ended up missing it and going back to driving it, selling off the newer car. I had basically given up on being able to replace it with anything that I could actually afford, but watching your "Should you buy a Jaguar XF" video made me stop and think about it. I went and saw a few, test drove a couple and fell absolutely in love with a 5.0 normally aspirated Premium Luxury from 2011. It has really low mileage, is as clean as a whistle and comes with most of the upgrades (except USB, which was weird!). Luckily, my wife fell in love with it, too and we have been enjoying owning it for the past three months now! I still have the Saab, in fact I sent it to my mechanic for a month's holiday to get it back to "as new" condition and while I still genuinely adore it, I am not driving it often at all. Getting to the point, thank you for your videos and the advice that you give. I am not in the market for a car now, at least not for a while, but I continue to watch them to support the channel as I really appreciate the help that you gave me in uncovering this absolute gem of a car, a car that I would never have even thought of had you not made that video. To anybody else considering an XF, go and get one. If you can find a reasonably low mileage, good history, clean, high spec one with, if possible, the 5.0 under the bonnet. A simply stunning engine and not quite as expensive to run as you might think, as long as you drive it with a little love and respect (most of the time!)
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this review. Indeed the last two minutes could of been aimed directly at me. I’m in the market for a sport brake around the 12-13k mark. Thanks for putting my mind at ease regarding reliability issues being helped with preventative maintenance. Subscribed 👍🏼
Beautiful car, gorgeous interior. Has to be one off the best looking estate cars around. Sadly if the seat doesn't go right forward it wouldn't suit me at 5'6". Thanks for another great review, all the best from Scotland.
My Wife is 5'5" and drives mine no problem. If it was I'd definitely have heard about it from her. Her major complaint is that "The brakes work too well, they are dangerous" Hahahaha!
I have the exact car sitting in saloon form, Took a deposit on it six weeks ago and still waiting on it being collected. Sold my 335d a few weeks ago and decided to use the Jag till it gets picked up. Absolutely awesome car, super comfortable, amazing on fuel and a nice bit of punch. That Italian racing red is a beautiful colour too.
I have got one, the same color 3.0 black trim. Bought it after your review of Jaguar XF and it is a truly amazing car. Long rides through Europe become an enjoyable part of your holiday.
Great review and I couldnt agree more with you! 6month owner of a '14 saloon S myself. After having had mustangs and other coupes all my life I needed a more sensible dad-taxi, the XF-S is special enough and still a great allrounder to warm my enthousiast heart, even a diesel.
I reckon this is the best looking car in its class. My neighbour has one and I hope to buy it from him. I love the soft and supple leather seats and dashboard. The performance on tap is ample. It feels special inside which can't be said with the German rivals in its class.
I think you've just persuaded me! Looking for a fast but practical estate car and have been torn between a Skoda Octavia VRs and this. The Skoda is probably the sensible choice with lower tax and cheaper insurance but this just looks so much more special.
Jaguar knocked it out of the park with the design of this. The proportions are just about perfect from every angle. Been looking for a nice fast practical car up to 20k. 330d's up to 535d's and now the Jag is starting to nag at me. Bloody cars...
I have a Jaguar XE top spec petrol. It drives beautifully and is my 4th Jaguar. having watched this i may well change her for the Sportbrake as i need a bigger boot - the one big downside of an XE is its 'mini' boot!. Watch all your videos as i feel you give a very balanced view. Sadly i live in Dorset so a bit far to come (when i am allowed to of course!) PS i have never has issues with any of my Jags, new or brought second hand.
Iv got this exact car but the saloon. the same colour/wheels black trim/year I love it think it looks beautiful to this day it’s done 150k ever missed a beat. One bad point the door handles are terrible when it freezes. Great review as always Matt ✌️
Just bought a 2015 XFS in Black with the Black pack on it. Can’t freaking wait to have it delivered. Your reviews have been so helpful. Ive always loved the looks but your reassurances about the reliability and it’s ‘special’ factor have reiterated that this is the perfect car for me. Can’t wait to get behind the wheel!
They did! Bought a 2018 almost a year ago. Absolutely love it! Only sold about 250 in US from 2018-2020. Needless to say I have not seen another one on the road yet.
Very satisfying review, I have one in this exact colour and everytime I think of changing to something newer I find a reason not to. Still a very good looking car and a joy to drive.
I have one of these in black with the cream interior and every optional extra bar the tv tuner. You're right about the interior theatre, later models seem to have gone a bit more German. I also prefer this model for the way the bonnet goes all the way to the grill...
When it first came out I was lent one to go to a Jaguar event in France . Not a huge fan of estates but was super impressed and the personnel running the event were very interested in my review of it .
Great video Matt thanks. Just bought this very car in this colour. Fantastic car, pulls well and its a great driving experience. You are correct I've had an alarm fault on it which is related to a faulty door latch. Cost me £700 at dealers. If you are buying one of these leave some money aside for expenses as you will need it should anything go wrong. All in all a great used car 🚘
Cracking review of a cracking car Matt. It always annoys me when some people knock certain cars that they have never actually owned or driven. It's true e what you said 'service them regularly and they will be fine'.👍
MY 2.2 doesn't clatter and remapped to 230 it's relatively peppy, with loads of low down Torque. And my 5'3" GF can reach the pedals no worries, just need to adjust the steering wheel position.
Just ordered my Sportbrake! After "discovering" them, so to speak, I just couldn't even consider the alternatives. Park that up next to the rivals and I'm not sure why you'd ever choose one of the others
Think I saw this car for sale towards back end of last year and fell in love it is a beautiful car and at the mo saving to upgrade my insignia for one of these in this spec. Love it. Great video.
Once again, a great review. You have managed to review all the cars I am looking at replace my currently VW cc. The A7, XJ or one of these, hopefully at some point this year I will take the plunge and actually purchase one. Thanks a lot for the reviews, keep up the good work.
Very common issue other than failing door locks (two of which were repaired on mine) is a leaking windscreen washer pump which causes major electrical issues by allowing washer fluid to travel by capillary action into the body control module located in the driver's footwell. Always check the multi-plug connectors that plug into this module for signs of corrosion if you're buying a facelifted Mark I XF (late 2011-2015) as it is a common fault and Jaguar has issued a tech bulletin on same. If caught in time, a new washer pump should sort it. Otherwise, it's a replacement module + wiring + re-progamming costs. Jonathan
That really is a good looking car and looks fun to drive. Reliability wise - my X-Type estate has 130K+ miles, is 12 years old and (touch wood) drives like a dream. No 'big issues' so far, just as reliable, if not more so, than any other car I've ever had. Sails through MOTs. Looks great. Drives great. Solid brand. It just works and I look forward to getting in it every time I do - like a little kid. But older and fatter. Me, not the car. I never found a Werther's Original in it, but I did find a golf course pin badge. Close enough.
You are correct about the newer model interiors. I've had a 2010 and 2014 XF-S and both were streets ahead of the equivalent newer versions inside. The new design is also less attractive. Seems to me that Jag went mass market with it to attract 5 series owners and it therefore suffered.
I originally bought a new XF Saloon in 2013 and two years later bought a 2014 Sportbrake. It's a fabulous car and completely reliable. Mine has full service history and is phenomenal. I have just ordered a new one and whomever buys my existing car will not be disappointed. The only issue I have, is that I have no idea when my new car will arrive. Great review of a great car.
Hi Mat , love your videos . All the information people are interested in , dry sense of humour, easy on the eye , what more can we ask for ? . Cannot find a video review of the Jaguar E Pace ?? . Have you done one , preferably petrol .
I’ve mentioned before on these threads that I love traditional wagons. This car is on my bucket list, of vehicles. Speaking of wagons...I bought a ‘19 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen S two weeks ago. So far, I’m enjoying it. We’ll see how well it holds up, over time. Cheers
Didn't expect the red leather interior but still a great car. Love it although I am biased. My in law had a 5 series and an e class and he is adamant this is the best of the three as is had the sportiness of the bmw but has comfort similar to the merc. It was the best of both.
Just about to buy the exact same year and spec as the one in your video, in fact its the very one in Petrol Ped's channel from 5 years ago I can tolerate the slightly tarty seats 😅
I've got an XFS sportbrake. Same colour as the one in the review. I love it. It's fabulous to drive and pretty economical. Fast enough and is really dynamic to drive.
That turning around for a second look at your own car is such a great feeling for us car enthusiasts
Its a must
Especially when you notice others looking at it to
It’s just a stunning looking car
I turn around to look at my 06 Megane too... to check if I left any windows opened.
I once heard someone say "if you don't take a second look back at your car as you walk away, you bought the wrong car"
As a learner of your language, I am grateful for your frequent inclusions of English idioms, which I find really valuable and entertaining. Thanks.
Thanks for watching

That red & black interior with the red exterior goes so well IMO.

Lovely car that , I’m a Jag fan and that’s a particularly nice one , shame about the Garish leather though .
The repressed pornstar in me likes them 😂
It looks like the leather is like a tarts bedroom on a photo but in real life it’s gorgeous, like mine. Not at all garish
Great review! As a past owner of the 3.0D saloon, I can agree the costs to maintain are not any higher than anything comparable and they are very reliable and a great drive. Totally agreed, one of the best looking estates in recent time. Looks great with the black trim. Great review as always...keep it up!

We had 2009 XF Portfolio . Loved it . On first road journey to Spain it packed up in France , had it done on warranty. I would not buy an old one with no warranty ,Mobutu loved it and still miss it despite having an excellent Lexus which is super reliable

A simply stunning engine and not quite as expensive to run as you might think, as long as you drive it with a little love and respect (most of the time!)
other than the red seats, it's awesome looking.
That Jag sure as hell
Looks classy...I like the review you've done 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this review. Indeed the last two minutes could of been aimed directly at me. I’m in the market for a sport brake around the 12-13k mark. Thanks for putting my mind at ease regarding reliability issues being helped with preventative maintenance. Subscribed 👍🏼
Beautiful car, gorgeous interior. Has to be one off the best looking estate cars around. Sadly if the seat doesn't go right forward it wouldn't suit me at 5'6". Thanks for another great review, all the best from Scotland.
Thanks for watching!
My Wife is 5'5" and drives mine no problem. If it was I'd definitely have heard about it from her. Her major complaint is that "The brakes work too well, they are dangerous" Hahahaha!
I've got one of these and wow what a motor, love it
I have the exact car sitting in saloon form, Took a deposit on it six weeks ago and still waiting on it being collected. Sold my 335d a few weeks ago and decided to use the Jag till it gets picked up. Absolutely awesome car, super comfortable, amazing on fuel and a nice bit of punch. That Italian racing red is a beautiful colour too.
Great review, it could make a nice change from my current Mercedes E220.
That Spec is the perfect one, no question
I have got one, the same color 3.0 black trim. Bought it after your review of Jaguar XF and it is a truly amazing car.
Long rides through Europe become an enjoyable part of your holiday.
Pleased to hear it

Great review and I couldnt agree more with you! 6month owner of a '14 saloon S myself. After having had mustangs and other coupes all my life I needed a more sensible dad-taxi, the XF-S is special enough and still a great allrounder to warm my enthousiast heart, even a diesel.
I reckon this is the best looking car in its class. My neighbour has one and I hope to buy it from him. I love the soft and supple leather seats and dashboard. The performance on tap is ample. It feels special inside which can't be said with the German rivals in its class.
I turn round for a seconed glance every time I lock my old Volvo, just to check that I have actually locked it. One of the perils of old age.
You can tell if it's locked by looking at it?
@@markfox1545 Yes. I check to see if the door lock pins are down. My eyesight is not deteriorating at the same rate as my memory.
"Irish Jockey" just brilliant
Maybe they have electric pedals ?
They would like the horsepower.
Lol 🙂
I think you've just persuaded me! Looking for a fast but practical estate car and have been torn between a Skoda Octavia VRs and this. The Skoda is probably the sensible choice with lower tax and cheaper insurance but this just looks so much more special.
What is special about HPA in my opinion is that Matt gives his personal straightforward opinion and doesn’t worry about offending any fanboys
Jaguar knocked it out of the park with the design of this. The proportions are just about perfect from every angle. Been looking for a nice fast practical car up to 20k. 330d's up to 535d's and now the Jag is starting to nag at me. Bloody cars...
Had the black edition, the only car I've owned that I wasn't biting at the bit to get rid of.
Love your stuff man. I feel like you don't do as many videos as I'd like. You're clearly a natural. We love the Jaguar content keep it coming!
Absolutely love the sportbrake. Great looking alternative to a 5 series
Matt, wish I watched this before I bought my XF 2012. 2.2 🤦♂️... amazing interior 👌 I am happy.
Iv got this exact car but the saloon. the same colour/wheels black trim/year I love it think it looks beautiful to this day it’s done 150k ever missed a beat. One bad point the door handles are terrible when it freezes. Great review as always Matt ✌️
That’s good going. Cheers
Congrats! Enjoy it
How has it been?
they didn't sell this in the US and I wished they did... I love it!
They did tough! I think 2020 was the last year. I’m shopping them now actually
I do love an estate car and the XF is certainly one I'd own. Nice review.
Thanks
Cracking review of a cracking car Matt.
It always annoys me when some people knock certain cars that they have never actually owned or driven. It's true e what you said 'service them regularly and they will be fine'.👍
Totally agree. Its all you can do
MY 2.2 doesn't clatter and remapped to 230 it's relatively peppy, with loads of low down Torque.
Great review. Didn't realise this model was available. Very informative ... with personality as usual.
Thanks for watching
If I had the money, I’d have one of these. As you said, the best looking estate car on the market........ 😃👍🏻
damn, you're almost at 100K subs. Am I wrong, or was most of this growth in the last 6 mos or so? Well done (and well deserved)
It’s been fairly steady for the last 12 months
I like the X Type estate
That is stunning! Much more special than its German rivals, I love it.
Thanks for the upload. Your videos help a lot with anxiety and lightening my mood. Enjoy them a lot and have been subbed since around 4k!
Thanks! Glad they help
You are correct about the newer model interiors. I've had a 2010 and 2014 XF-S and both were streets ahead of the equivalent newer versions inside. The new design is also less attractive. Seems to me that Jag went mass market with it to attract 5 series owners and it therefore suffered.
I own a MY13 200hp version. Truely love it and not more expensive than my predecessor car, a Saab 9-5 Aero.
Please let me know when your car comes up for sale
Should be in January, fingers crossed.
@@geoffhann4109 Please keep me informed on your XF sportbrake sale
@@timwallinger6008 Still awaiting a delivery date.
I have had a delivery date of the 28th July to the dealer, so the car will go on sale at the end of July if you are still interested.
Cheers
Oooh what a stunning car, love the xf, shame they discontinued the supercharged xf!!
I know!! That is a shame
Didn't expect the red leather interior but still a great car. Love it although I am biased. My in law had a 5 series and an e class and he is adamant this is the best of the three as is had the sportiness of the bmw but has comfort similar to the merc. It was the best of both.
Great Video. I had the saloon with the same colour and specification. Absolutely loved it!
My dad owns a sportbrake in Portofino blue. Stunning cars. Turns heads on the odd occasion.
Just about to buy the exact same year and spec as the one in your video, in fact its the very one in Petrol Ped's channel from 5 years ago
I can tolerate the slightly tarty seats 😅
Excellent review as always Matt. I do believe within a couple of weeks you will reach that very coveted, and richly deserved 100,000 milestone mate. 👌
Fingers crossed! Thanks for the support over the years
@@HighPeakAutos You are more than welcome Matt 🙌
I've got an XFS sportbrake. Same colour as the one in the review. I love it. It's fabulous to drive and pretty economical. Fast enough and is really dynamic to drive.
