This was great. Just had a deadbeat mechanic replace my fuel pump, but the check engine light stayed on. It was a fuel vent problem. I couldn't get him to fix the problem, so I followed your video and found a connection not hooked up to the cannister. I connected it and check engine light is now off.
Thanks for the video. It was a great help. I just did my '06 TB and it was the same. You're not kidding about those plastic connectors. My advice to everyone is break all the small ones and buy new. I couldn't find replacements for the big white ones. I was able to get 1 or the 3 out without breaking it. For those ones that I broke I put the pieces back in and then put a zip tie around them (my chevy Mechanic suggested that). It works great!
Arrrrgh. Just put mine together this afternoon. Took, like, 3 weeks and I learned three important things. 1. Provide VIN code when ordering parts. 2. Get new fuel line clips shen ordering parts. 3. Do NOT cut the fuel pipe hose thinking, "Hoses? What part store doesn't sell hoses?" Oh yeah, there's a number 4. Hook up the rear tank strap before attaching the eletrical plugs and fuel lines.
Not bad at all. One thing please DO NOT USE A HAMMER ON A HAMMER TO TAKE THE RING OFF. By hitting the hammer head with a hammer will also spark. Brass is best by far but I have also used Iron wood or other very hard wood. This also is the same procedure for an Isuzu Ascender.
I am attempting this tomorrow, in my yard, with ramps and a small floor jack. I've worked on many cars/ truck in my lifetime, but not for a few years. Sent my son to Wyotech and haven't had to. But now he's 900 miles away and has given me some tips by phone. He had mentioned using hot water on those clips and they pull right off. I'm a little skeptical on that aspect, but will see how easy they are to even see while trying. I will try and come back here with an update.
Did it. Was not fun, but I did it on uneven ground, on cardboard, with no help. I had to drill out the broken pieces of the old pump, that snapped in the line. WARNING: Tho you pull the pump relay and crank it a few times after it stalls, you may find a line that still has fuel and pressure. That's how my day started. Want to pull it down again and replace some pieces. The side plate, near the driveshaft, fell out in two pieces and, tho they don't leak, I want to replace a few grommets.
Actually, you DO NOT take those clips out of the fuel line connectors. I mean, you can, but as seen in the video you can break them very easily. The side he is prying them out of, you push that side in and then pull the fuel lines apart. You do not have to remove the clips and risk breaking them and having to run back out to the store and buy replacements. Just push that side in and it spreads out the middle part of it to allow you to separate the lines. I just did this on a 2005 Envoy and only replaced the level sender since that is all that was bad.
The sensor is attached to the fuel pump. You have to take the pump out no matter what. You probably can buy the sensor/sending unit but it is a hell of a lot of work to do. I would change the whole pump. Either way you have to still do all this work.
These fuel line clips are released by pressing the closed side of the clip and pulling the connector. The clips can break even doing it this correct way but you are almost guaranteed to break them trying to pick them out. Nice video though!
Thanks man. I did this job several years ago and had no clue about how those clips worked. I do now and I know to have some on hand before I even start.
i just did my sending unit because i was having the same problem. One second it shows the right level the next goes straight to E. Ordered a new sending unit on ebay and everything works great
Good video, I suggest telling the novice mechanic to clean tank also. Always remember static electricity is easily removed by touching everything bare handed first. Finally, don't make the same mistake I did by forgetting the tank brackets order during disassembly, they are not interchangeable!!!
well thanx after I drove it around for a while it seems to be working again, don't really know what happened bu after ll the tedious work saw that it wasn't working I freaked but all is good for now thanx again to you for the video and info
Thanks for the video! I have a question. I have a 2006 Trailblazer that the fuel gauge shows 3/4 tank, then it will ding the tank in empty (but has $25 of gas in it) then back to 1/3 tank. I'm pretty sure its the fuel level sending unit as I can't imagine the gauge triggering a fuel low light and chime. What do you think?
To the peeps who have mid 2000's gm vehicle. If any of the gauges are acting flaky, ie fuel, speedometer... It could be the stepper motor that drives each needle. Only X25.168 and X27.168 stepper motors are approved by GM. x15 168 and x c5 168 stepper motors all fail over time. You can take the instrument cluster out and disassemble to the main board yourself, but it does require desoldering the old ones and soldering in the new ones. Just buy enough to do them all. If you don't know how to solder get someone who can do it, or take it to a tv repair shop. A new instrument cluster or a used one is high $ and getting the dealer to program it is $100 or so. Search you tube for "gm stepper motor replacement". You will need to adjust the needles to your mark on the tape you made per the videos instructions. I reinstalled mine and left the cover off so I could calibrate the speedometer to my gps while driving.
very good video, I congratulate you, I made the replacement of the pump to see your video, I saved a few dollars, thank you very much, I have a question: how many psi should the pump have for the engine to work properly? My trailblazer is the 2004 model 6l.
So this vehicle doesn't have a fuel filter ? Mines have been sitting up for about a year and i recently changed all the fluids and put a Gas treatment and filled up and once i cranked it 🙃 it started acting crazy wont stay running. I need help
I have to change my fuel tank pressure sensor on my 2008 envoy do I have to disconnect the fuel lines to just lower the tank to get to the sensor? THANKS
You could do it in 3 to 8 hours depending on your skill. The clips are the pain in the ass part. If you have a a buddy it might make dropping and raining the tank easier.
Oh no Luis! I dont think that would make it go bad. I am not an expert. When I made that video it was the only time I ever changed a fuel pump. I will do some research and see if I can help you out
To anyone watching this I believe 05-08 envoys and trailblazers have a special policy about the fuel sensor through your Chevrolet dealer. Basically the contacts wear out to quickly in the sensor. If your vehicle is still covered due to miles I think it's 150000 they would have to replace it for a free. 1000 dollars for this job seems outrageous its 2-3 hour job tops if you have done one before. One quick tip if you have compressed air and gun just put the compressed air to the back of the clip . If you blow the dirt out they remove a lot easier. And all you have to do is squeeze you shouldn't have to take the clip out of the connector.
Hi everyone. I need to get this job done on my 06 Trailblazer. However, I have a question for you. If my tank was almost empty, and once you're done with all the process. Do I have to put more gas before start the vehicle?
Just curious.... If you had done this from start to finish, no interruptions, how long would you estimate it took you? I need to have this done, but you made it look doable by your average-joe, however I don't want to spend two days working on it.
Just curious to see if anyone has cut through the floor board to change the pump? I did it once on a Ford Taurus and it was much easier than dropping the tank. Under the back seat of the trailblazer though its not flat and i dont know where to spot where the cut. Any suggestions?

I know this response is late but I am happy it helped.
The remove and replace of the #24 fuse worked perfectly fixing the gas gauge problem. Thanks for that tip.
Sorry for the late response. I am glad it helped.

You did a super job on the video. Thank you. Off to the rest stop were the truck lies waiting ever so patiently.
Good job, dude. You did it yourself.

I replaced a fuel pump in a 1999 Honda it was so easy because there is a floor plate with a gasket over top of the tank under the seat. Very EASY

It does have a fuel filter. It is next to the tank. If your vehicle was sitting for a long time the gas may have gone bad.
I have to change my fuel tank pressure sensor on my 2008 envoy do I have to disconnect the fuel lines to just lower the tank to get to the sensor? THANKS
Depends on where the sensor is located. But more than likely you will have to.
You could do it in 3 to 8 hours depending on your skill. The clips are the pain in the ass part. If you have a a buddy it might make dropping and raining the tank easier.

I'm not the only one to say fuel lever "level"😂😂😂
Great job, I learned a lot from this video. Thank you.
Hi everyone. I need to get this job done on my 06 Trailblazer. However, I have a question for you. If my tank was almost empty, and once you're done with all the process. Do I have to put more gas before start the vehicle?
Marcela Herrera If there is enough gas for the pump to suck up then it should be okay.
how many packages of those 800-023 clips should i get in preparation?
Ha, not sure man. You can look up videos on how to properly remove them amd hopefully you won't break to many
Neatus Garage Studios ended up doing it an hour ago I bought one package but I ended up magically breaking no clips.
Dude, awesome!
Just curious.... If you had done this from start to finish, no interruptions, how long would you estimate it took you? I need to have this done, but you made it look doable by your average-joe, however I don't want to spend two days working on it.

I cut the floor on a Saturn and one of the evap lines was close to the sheet metal and I ended up accidentally cutting it. It was no fun.
is it good to use a universl fuel pump in a 2003 chevy trailblazer
Does.this have a fuel filter??
Awesome video. Looks like a huge pain.. ugh.... I heard the fuel filter was also in the fuel tank. Why not replace those also while you're at it.
Omit 2 jacks by using a motorcycle jack, and is a lot more steady
Good idea!
Is that a same fuel pump for a 2005 trailblazer?
Have a question if u can help me plz
Good Vid man! It looks like I need to do this project on my wifes 06 Trailblazer, what brand of pump did you use?
I think the sending unit which is part of the pump is bad. Should most likely fix it if you replace the pump.
Oh good. I am glad it is working. That would have sucked.
Hey, that's a good video. Thanks a lot!
No problem buddy!

I hope it helps you get your rig off the side of the road!
Thank for the video lot of help
Helpful video!
You're the man. Thanks!
Wheres the video of you putting it back in lol
It is just the reverse of taking it out. Figured that was all that was needed to show.
Great video!!
how do you replace just the sensor? my fuel gauge always reads E and dont want to replace fuel pump
I believe it is.
Not sure man, I think you need to use the proper one that fits in the tank.
Great video. Thx.
You are welcome amigo.
Thanks a lot man.....
Thanks!
thanks man
my sending unit sends no gas
My pleasure.
Yeah they really suck. If I had any good advice to give it would be to just buy new ones and break all the old ones off.
My labor guide shows this is a 3 hour job. Def not a 1k job. That would be over 330.00 an hour.
ughhh... i hate those stupid plastic connectors....
