porsche is just utterly insane when it comes to endurance racing they have taken 18 rolex 24 overall wins and 19 overall 24h of le mans wins, not even mentioning the wins they got as an engine supplier or the class victories in various endurance gt classes
I think they looked interesting. Sure, they were silhouette cars, akin to Nascar or the current Rally1 Cars in WRC, but they offered variety in the endurance racing landscape and, most importantly, produced good racing.
Prototypes will never not be cool (aside from the early DP cars) but seeing GT cars fight for overall wins against them is something thats always a sight to behold.
Really loves these videos always wanted to know the history of endurance racing in North America. Could you do a complication of all the 24 hours of Daytona since the start. A Daytona 24 through the years
3:54: One of the favorite cars for many fans of that era, the Momo Ferrari."Gentleman" driver, Giampero Moretti, founder of Momo, an auto excessories company in Italy, tried for almost 30 years to win the LeMans or Rolex 24 Hours. In 1996, his car finished 2nd less than a minute behind the Riley and Scott co driven by Wayne Taylor. In 1998, he, Arie Luyendyk, Mauro Baldi, and Didier Theys won the Rolex 24. Moretti got in the car and drove it to the finish in the last 45 minutes with not a dry eye in the house.
I Love the era when it was possible for GT cars to take overall victories. Nowadays it would take a massive hypercar pileup for a fast GT3 car to triumph.
Great video. I’m really looking forward to 24 hours of Daytona and this whole season! I just wanted to point out Chevrolet/GM had another overall victory in 2014 with Chevrolet Corvette DP. The chassis was a Coyote I think but they were running a GM LS6 V8 engine in the Daytona prototype class. Thanks
My sources said that the labeled manufacturer was actually Coyote. I choose to say Coyote was the manufacturer that won in 2014, even though it was technically Chevy, as that was what my research indicated.
Technically yes they did with Action Express Racing. But for this video I labeled it as Coyote winning Daytona as the sources I gathered labeled it as Coyote winning overall in 2014

#19th for Porsche 🥳
Make it 19 wins for Porsche now
Those old Riley GTP cars looked like pregnant guppies..
So bad

@@wendigockelProbably one of the reasons NASCAR drivers were so successful in them.
@@wendigockel I really believe it depended on the angle of observation...
I remember overhearing a kid say to his dad, “Those cars look like they’re driving backwards!” Lol

Awesome video. Great history lesson as well as we drive into Daytona for the roar 😎
Thank you! I’m glad you found it informative!
Jaja and they did today 😁 and Le mans are the kings as well good video my friend. 👍👍
I was at the roar last weekend, I am insanely hyped for this weekend!

Nice Video 🎉
Thank you!!

cadillac dpi VR👑🔥
As much as I love prototypes, I love seeing GT cars win overall.
Could you do similar video about 24 Le Mans @Formula Jonah

porsche has 22 if you count engine customers

And Chevrolet also had the Corvette GTP in the mid-nineties, so...
Indeed Chevrolet does have a past in prototype racing
I grew up watching the Daytona prototypes end of 2000s start of 2010s. I really like where the sport is going with the Gtp
1:46 They won in 2014 with the Daytona Prototype Corvette
From my understanding, while it was Chevy Corvette, the labeled manufacturer was Coyote. I could be mistaken though, is this not correct?
Porsche... nobody even comes close...the most successful brand in racing
Very true. I’m hoping they add win number 19, in 2024!
@@FormulaJonah so do I... Been a Porsche fanatic since I was a young kid way back in the early 70s
There is No Subsitiute. If you add on Porsche power in 1984, 1995, 2009, and 2010 they have 22!!!
for Chevy, did you forget about the Corvette DP cars?

I can believe dodge viper gtsr won at Rolex 24 hours of Daytona
I >think< it also took overall victory at Le Mans. The golden age of GT cars. I don’t think it’s possible now.
Didn't Corvette win in the DP era i think in like 2014?
Technically yes they did with Action Express Racing. But for this video I labeled it as Coyote winning Daytona as the sources I gathered labeled it as Coyote winning overall in 2014
I do wish the 60 Acura got disqualified for cheating although it would not have really mattered for Acura because they still would’ve won 3 in a row
Goo Leafs eh?
