We've had such an epic time exploring Albania, but sadly we had to cut our road trip short to get to Macedonia to fix Staceys laptop. In this vlog we take a bus from Tirana to Skopje with a lot of randomness and the odd unexpected stop over haha. That's travel days for ya.

Now is probably a good time to address something controversial around the correct name for the country of Macedonia. While Google Maps shows the country is called North Macedonia, there's still huge debate about what's 'correct'. It seems to vary depending on nationality, geography, political stance and personal opinions - in the conversations we've had in Serbia, Greece, Macedonia and Albania the opinions are strong and the tension between these 4 in different combinations is still alive (based on our perception from the intense comments on our videos anyway). As tourists we try to be as respectful as possible but there's absolutely no way we can please everyone. All we know now is the people living here want to be known as Macedonia, so it seems respectful to call them as they wish in their country.
Regardless, Albania we loved you and hope to be back to travel around more next time and get up north also!

I would advise using "North Macedonia" when refering to it to avoid..."complications" in the comments
Macedonians don’t want to be called that though, and it’s their country, we’d only be saying that to please others.

You simply cannot leave Kosovo without taking some speca with you. It is impossible.
We can relate to this travel day... crossing 4 borders going from one city to the next is a uniquely Balkan experience... so is confusion regarding what bus you're supposed to be on, where to get picked up, etc. Part of the adventure for sure, but the Balkan countries are amazing! We were surprised to find so much English as well!
People know english, I don't know what's surprising about that.
Mass confusion... for us only haha. Thats the weird thing sometimes when everyone else is so comfortable and you're just standing around completely unsure about everything. All fun and part of travel!

That looked a pretty arduous day! It's good that you show the rough with the smooth in your videos, keeping it real. Dane's knack for finding excellent accommodation must really count when you face a travel day like this one - if you can chill and recover somewhere appealing, it must help with the recovery! :)

The company where I work as an engineer built the building you are actually staying in Skopje...All the rooms are so nice designed though, hope you enjoy staying in Skopje, its a nice city with diverse cultures inside.

You are correct, Astrit Useini, the population of Skopje is made up of diverse cultures - just like every city in Europe is diverse, dating back to ancient times and more recently, just like every city in the world. The world is indeed a fascinating place.
I love this video so much because I can relate 100% to how you guys were feeling... just 50% awake from the travel haze. low tax in Skopje and residency with 40k real estate investment. Wouldn't personally want to live there though. Pollution is a huge issue.

8 hour flights are tough for sure, at least the bus stops a few times. Trains really seem to be the winner - you can walk around!

Haha, we did exactly the same journey last week! We also had no idea that we would be going via Kosovo, so that was exciting, eh? The bus journey is a bit of a killer, but worth it for the views. We were particularly impressed with the road through Kosovo, and that amazing bridge with the pillars. Skopje was great - we walked around looking for Spomenik and Brutalist architecture :-). Hope Stacey got her laptop fixed!
Glad you guys also did it - random mission wasn't it haha. That road and bridge is apparently part of a massive 10 year plan to build an enormous road up through Albania and Macedonia and more, like a super highway
The road is much better and quicker probably thats why, you literally jump from one highway to the other. In this case 3 of them

Hey guys, you definitely should've stopped in Kosovo, it's amazing! My partner and I visited from London for a week in June this year.
I recognized your first coach stop as where we stopped en route from Skopje, just outside Prizren, which is a beautiful old city with a river flowing through and famous stone bridge and castle overlooking town. And Pristina the capital has a great vibe, food and nightlife scene. You also would've broken your long journey significantly. 😉

We didn't have one, but we were also told we were on a direct bus and had absolutely no idea what was going on. So make sure you check a credible source.
I would like to welcome you to are small but beautiful country Macedonia. May you have a nice stay here. You must visit the matka wally, the old train station and the church of st. spas It has amazing wood carvings that were made by the best wood carvers in the country and has the grave of a macedonian hero.

Also I think you probably had a misunderstanding with the bus cause there definitely are buses going straight from tirana to skopje (without the prishtina stop) and also for a little less travel time :/

We could have - but repair times are like 3 weeks and we'd already been in Albania for 6 weeks, was time to move on either way.

It could be amazing if you guys could watch an albanian wedding... they're something great, a lot of fun, traditional music and dance! Also try the food in Skopje, it's great! You need to eat some "QEBAB" cause my boyfriend is deeply in love with that food!

Hello, I really like your channel and I wish I could have a similar lifestyle with my girlfriend. We both love traveling! I honestly don't want to bring politics to your channel's discussion, but the country you are about to visit is now called North Macedonia, not Macedonia. Not to be misunderstood with the northern province of Greece, also called Macedonia.

Macedonia is an origin in northern Greece (it is a part of Greece, as thessaly is, as peloponnese is, as thtace is, as eperus is e.t.c). The politicians have named this statement of Skopje, as "Northern Macedonia". Please, correct the tittle.

I don't do Airbnbs so the video was not useful for accommodation for me. Looks like you were on a motorcoach formerly used by Trafalgar Tours. I've taken enough of their tours and recognize the color scheme on the exterior. Not a great travel video I have to say. This is more about the two of you rather than the destination with plenty of camera time focused on your faces. All ancient areas are in Ellas, Pella and Vergina. Makedonia is one of many country states like Thessalia, Ipiros or Thraki and it belonged long time ago before the fake state of Vardaska exist!
Even the so called greeks today are nothing like ancient greeks so I don't understand what their deal is. Today's greeks are part Albanian, part Asia Minor greeks, part Egyptian, part slavogreeks.
