What a gentleman Dickie was!😊 You always make an effort to use/learn the language of the country you are visiting and engage with the locals and everyone responds well to you. Again, beautiful scenery. I am astonished that you only take a wee rucksack with you, amazing!
Both the taxi drivers were gentlemen but of course Dickie was more comfortable conversing because he could speak English better. So yes I bonded well with him! I was grateful for the brief language lesson and the free soft drink :) This really is a special part of the world Sheila. Lots of politics but beautiful scenery and interesting destinations as you picked up. Travelling light is the way to go, keeps me mobile! Cheers for watching :)
I enjoyed your bus ride. I made a similar trip several years ago. I took a taxi from Skopje out to Pogradec, Albania (on lake Ohrid) and then back to Skopje. I started very early in the morning and made it back late evening. You mentioned the bunker. In Albania it seemed there was an old bunker about every 400 meters or so. On my 2nd travel trip, I was traveling on a ferry from Patras, Greece to Brindisi, Italy. This was in the late 1980s and Albania was a place you absolutely couldn't visit. On the ferry we were just off the coast of Albania. I imagined if I fell off the ferry I would have to swim to Albania. The thought of it brought a smile to my face. I had no idea that years later not only could I go there but I did.
Fabulous service from the first hotel and it looks a lovely place. Dickie was a character and bless him for giving you a drink. The view from the hotel in Skopje is awesome and what a fantastic price !!!
Absolutely Lynne & Paul! It is a hugely underrated part of the world in my opinion. Maybe you can take a cheeky cruise in the region and stop off at some of the Balkans' ports (if you haven't already!)
@@willieexplore its on the list - we did Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia in 2019 and hsd no idea what to expect - cant wait to go back for land holidays.
Back again Willie, really enjoyed the bus trip and the amazing scenery. And what a view from the balcony where you are staying in Skopje !!! Sensational. Do I understand you actually live in England? Or is that the center point for your travels? Interesting. Thank you once again. Kiwi from Virginia.
I’m just watching and love the video , would you be able to tell me the name of this hotel in Tirana as it looked lovely . Thankyou, a really lovely vide watched it in full , now on to your skopje video loving your channel
Absolutely Ashlynn! Some of the scenery is just breathtaking. I'd say the Balkans in general is a very underrated travel destination. More people should explore there!
Hi! There was a bathroom break at the restaurant we visit and I think at the border crossing too (though I cannot be certain, it was some time ago!). But a wonderful journey nonetheless. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your kind words! I only used about a quarter of all my footage in putting together this video, which I know is a real shame. What a beautiful part of the world!
@@melonsdad7498 I know my friend :) It was a fantastic trip! Need to go back at some point and visit some of the smaller towns and cities. Such a lot of world to see!
Hi Willie, I am traveling to Skopje from Tirana on the same route you took. How much was the coach ticket? And what was it like going through Macedonian customs and where abouts in Tirana is the bus station ? Thanks
Hi James, hope you are looking forward to a wonderful adventure! It is an incredible part of the world and the scenery is next level in parts. Re the price - I paid 20 Euros for my ticket from Tirana to Skopje. I'd imagine the price to be similar for the Skopje-Tirana leg. Re the customs - it is extremely straightforward but there can be long queues if you're unlucky. All luggage got offloaded and you also may need to unzip / unlock yours, but there are no forms to fill in. Re the Tirana bus station - the international one you will arrive at (or should arrive at) is Rruga Ali Kolonja. Hope this helps! Let me know if you require any further information :)
It was good! Won't say it was the most luxurious ride but it did get me from A to B. The bus itself was only half full, so I had a choice of backpack on the seat next to me or by my feet. Either way there is enough legroom for a decent size backpack, which was great! I took my backpack with me during the 2 x stops we had for coffee / toilet, but most people just left theirs on the bus. No issues :)
@@willieexplore i scheduled it for next week with Hak bus through flix bus, the lady seemed nice (i met the woman at the desk this morning) so i went ahead and booked it for next week. looking to move up through eastern and northern europe on my trip, next. see you soon.
