    Yet another magnificent video IDGuy. As a child of the sixties and growing up watching the space race unfold and watching the moon landing as it happened, the Speedmaster Professional has always held a special place in my heart. It was the first true luxury watch that I purchased and will forever hold a special place in my collection. While there are many different versions and iterations, the Speedmaster Professional Man on the Moon with the hesalite crystal will always be a true icon.

      There's always going to be something special when an enthusiast picks up an Omega as their first watch ;) - The best part of all is that Speedmaster owners all share the same passion that we all do. Thank you for always sharing Blueshirt. I look forward to discussing your new Doxa on Saturday!

    I have never seen anything like this before IDGuy, this was amazing! Yes there are SOOOOOOO many variations and limited editions that I thought it was ridiculous. But actually after your vid I realize it is really an amazing range. Wow loved watching the vid and seeing all these. No surprises, but seeing them together was a treat. I’ll be wearing my hesalite pro for the next few days to commemorate. Thanks brother!

    I must admit, of all chronographs, I have fallen for the Zenith A384 revival and that would be my chrono of choice.
    If however, I were to opt for a Speedmaster it would have to be the Trilogy ‘57 reissue, the Alaska Project II, the Ed White 321 reissue or more than likely the same as yourself, the CK2998 reissue with the blue highlights and the tachymetre bezel. A beautiful take on the second version of the Speedmaster with its dauphine hands and lollipop second hand. Simply gorgeous.
    A very comprehensive roundup of Speedmasters shown here IDGuy. Well researched and analysed my friend. Top stuff as always. ✊

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very nicely said, brother. It's so hard to clear up one which ONE model speaks to us the most. I guess we could safely settle for a Professional hesalite, but where's the fun in that? ;) Honestly, money no option, I'd be going after the Ed White or "Moonshine" All-gold model from the family. But hey, those Zeniths are looking incredible... Maybe we can both save up and get one in the future? Both on a Gay Freres bracelt? Enjoy the rest of your week, my friend. Saturday is going to be fire (Tom Austin picked up a gem that's become the cover photo)

    My new Speedmaster Professional Hesalyte MOTM has made me an instant enthusiast. The variety of variants only increases the desirability of the historic moonwatch. The balanced understated utility of the dial even apart from its matchless story would make it a classic anyway. A thousand years hence for reasons both historic and aesthetic it will still be a museum highlight. Our generation knew we could do anything. Our parents had saved the world, we grew up with the space program and were teenagers when the footprints were left on the moon. That optimism took me from the poverty of the rural south to a career in medicine. This watch is both of that time and timeless.

    I bought my X-33 about 15 years ago. Still an awesome watch that always starts a conversation. In fact, it was just worn aboard the Space X Falcon 9 launch. Just goes to show that these were made for an actual purpose and not just to look cool on someone's wrist. Well done Omega!

    For me Speedmasters break into two variants: manual wind and automatic. I have favourites in both.
    My personal favourite manual piece is the standard Speedy Pro sapphire sandwich. While I'm glad the Hesalite model is still included in the line, and I hope it always is, however I feel the sapphire crystal and display casebook (showing a better finished movement) are worthwhile upgrades over the Hesalite model (so long as you're someone who doesn't need to worry about floating sapphire crystal shards). The new Ed White 321 is also amazing, albeit expensive, and I like that the movement in the 60th Moon Landing edition is METAS certified (I'm hoping the standard line upgrades to this movement soon).
    My favourite automatic Speedmasters are in the new Racing line, specifically the black dial/orange hand model on calf racing strap and the white dial/black hands on the bracelet. I also love the Dark/Grey Side of Moon for their awesome ceramic technical achievements.

  • @WatchMeEDC
    @WatchMeEDC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m biased but to me #1 has to be the classic Professional hesalite with 1861; it’s the OG classic black dial with a great movement. #2 is the Alaska Project because it’s a model actually made for NASA to their specs to go to the dark side of the moon and it’s just so unique compared to all other versions. #3 is the reverse panda Speedy Tuesday, such a great presence and look. #4 is the blue Snoopy Anniversary, what a stunner and such a cool case back with Snoopy in the capsule. Everything else is a tie for #5 😝 I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this until now. Great video!

    Great content well done,
    I wish I had them all . That could be a statement for a collection.
    I have 2 classic tritium dials from early 70’s one on a black strap and one on the bracelet, they are a different look, they would eventually be the ones I would get again, if I had to add one- I’d go for the Ed white. It just keep me staring and looking for the differences.

    Great design review. I know you didn’t include the mark II though you did give it an honorable mention of sorts. But wanted to say that I recently acquired that Mark II with the gray dial and orange accents after two years of putting it off. I love everything about it and now I can’t stop wearing it. But from your list I’d go with the moonshine. For its well-balanced vintage aesthetics, uniqueness and strong horological and even moon DNA.

    Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary in stainless steel. When the regular moon watch is updated with the cal.3861 and the price increased, the Apollo 11 50th will be seen as excellent value (at RRP). That said, the limited edition is sold out everywhere and is now going for a 35% premium on the used market

    Great video - Would have liked to see original DSOTM make the cut but still a great selection of watches. The impact of the subtle contrast polishing on the standard Speedmaster / many Speedmasters should not be forgotten. A badly polished case totally ruins the aesthetic. If you ever want photos etc let me know - especially the Marine Chronometer mega quartz - I know if you made a video on that topic it would really do that design / its history true justice.

    For me the ideal design should be the same colour for the seconds/minutes/hours hands and another colour for the chronograph second and totalisers (minutes, hours). E.g. like the snoopy Apollo 13, and the dark side of the moon Apollo 8 versions. Why didn’t they make them like that for all from the start? It makes reading the time or the chronograph result so much easier.

      Contrasting colours that correspond with their function, I hope that's what I'm reading? (It's late here) - I completely agree. Being able to divide your attention between the colour of hands is such a great practice and makes the experience so much better. The Apollo 8 is my top 3 because of just how well those colours work together. It's such fun looking into these pieces deeper and thank you Lucas!

    Omega can drive you crazy with so many variations of Speedmaster Pro. For me the quintessential Speedy Pro is the hesalite crystal with cal. 1861 MOTM. If you want a Speedmaster, it's one and done.

      I have one. It’s pretty but it has too much characteristics on it that make it overwhelming for many collectors. Also it does not appear good on certain light condition as the subdial is printed instead of recess. Makes it more 2D than 3D. Nevertheless it is very special as the last man on the moon.

    I would be curious to hear your opinion of the 3523.80. It’s an odd duck among Speedmasters and is the most affordable of the bunch. It’s not often spoken of.

    Nice overview but I feel the title needs to specify that only looks are being considered in the search for the "Greatest Speedmaster". One cannot completely ignore wearability when discussing how "great" a watch is. Case in point being the DSOTM, the case width and thickness both are too large for a majority of wrists to handle. This point also holds true for the CK 2998 renditions, when I tried one on I discovered that the thickness to size ratio was so off it felt like a Big Mac was strapped to my wrist.

    I don't think you meant that the yellow reminded you of a "Zenith Daytona" but of a "Patrizzi dial Daytona". Lots of Zenith Daytona's do not have yellow tained subdials. Good video though!
