This guy is great. In all the videos I watched on how to repair your GE dishwasher, no one ever mentioned error codes and the ability to access them on your machine. This could have saved me hours and substantial expense if I had know this information before I started. Thank you so much. Great video! This is information I am sure the repair people wouldn't want you to know!
Thank you for posting this video. I bought a GE GDT655SSJ0SS in 2017. It had the pump replaced under warranty because it was squealing. It has always had an issue with not recognizing that the door is closed (beeps three times and flashes the lamp on the front). The touch panel died Nov 2021, so I tore the door apart, replaced the touch panel, replaced the door latch switch, cleaned it all up and reinstalled it. 12/29/2021, the door latch is at it again, and now I'm understanding that the issue might be the main board under the kick plate. Sometimes it does work again if I turn off the breaker for a few minutes. After this, if I have to replace anything, it will be a non-GE dishwasher. I've had it with this POS. Never had these issues with a dishwasher with a timer knob in 40 years. Took the chance on this dishwasher, won't ever make that mistake again.
Thank you so much for sharing this information! Living in a rural area it’s hard to find a repairman. I followed this video and was able to pin point my issue and get a new drain pump on the way!
The step to get into the diagnosis screen worked for me on a newer GE dishwasher. The dishwasher was displayed H20 error message, completed options 1,2, and 3. Once done started washing cycle without any issues, thank you.
So happy to find this video!!!! Looking for hours. Dishes not drying, but with this video able to prove the element is working. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I bought Model GDF630PSM4SS in September. It stopped draining after two weeks. The technician who was sent told me that the problem was that I bought GE Dishwasher in the first place. Not kidding! He told me he would buy a Bosch as all GE dishwashers are junk. It broke a week later and for the next 3 weeks I had to bail it out by hand, let it sit a day, and then it would work again for about 4-6 times. The 2nd technician ordered a part that did not need to be replaced, got it to work and then it failed again and would not drain. I had to buy a new dishwasher and the GE sits in my garage. GE told me they will not refund the money and would only replace it if the technician states in cannot be fixed. Stay away from GE.
Thank you for your video. It was very helpful. It guided me in the right direction. Awesome explanation with the error codes big help with that. I like the way you elaborate the error codes.
Thanks so much for this video! I was able to confirm my suspicions that my drain pump had died. With this video, and your video on replacing the pump, I was able to do it myself and save a lot of $$$. :)

Thank you for posting this series on GE dishwashers. It's very helpful - especially showing how to remove and repair/replace the drain and circulation pumps. I searched and searched for this hard to find info. The spec sheet you refer to in this Video is missing from my dishwasher (GDT680SSHSS). Does the document have a title or part number? Also, does anyone know how to remove the top rack in my model of dishwasher as it appears that one needs to remove screws from the adjustment bracket to do so?
I intended on scanning that paper, but lost it. :-/ The top rack should come out by releasing the tabs on the ends. I think I show that process in one of my videos.
Hello. thank you for this video. In test mode my fully integrated Monogram GE dishwasher ,ZDT870SPF7SS, does flash all the lights as it should but I don't think anything is working. It certainly doesn't drain. The technician placed a new controller board but couldn't get it to start. In the test modes the codes showing are F3 and F128. I was told by another repairman that I should replace the inverter as per the code. Apparently the inverter is not being recognized. The cost here is 600$ and Im wondering if I can replace the inverter myself as the inverter is 250$ in the US. I cannot find any repair/installation videos on the inverter and also cannot seem to find the inverter board in Ontario. Its appears to be sold as a package with jumper cables. Thanks for this very excellent video.
Thank you for the video. My dishes were soaking wet and never dried. I immediately thought, OK, heating element, but some other videos said the flood switch could also be the cause. I ran the codes as you described and sure as sh*t the heating element did not come on. Is there a way to see if the flood switch is bad? Not only are the dishes not dry, they are cruddy. I've purchased a floor model bosch to replace this POS GE that came with the house (Ieft with a non-functioning heating element) but would like to repair it and sell it to get a little $ to go towards the floor model Bosch I just bought. Thank you.
You can test it with a multi meter. Put meter on ohms and measure between the two contacts, then activate the switch and check again. It should switch back and forth between close to 0 ohms and infinite ohms. I don't recall if it is normally open or normally closed, but if good it will toggle between infinite and close to 0.
@@TwoKeysStudio Thank you - I also found your other video about the flood switch. I'm going to take a look. Based on the fact that the prior owners never cleaned anything, I would be willing to bet that it's completely gross and all gunked up. I'll give it a good clean and see if that rectifies it first. It's a 2016 model, so the flood switch may need to be replaced anyway. It seems to be an underlying issue with these GE dishwashers based on what I read. Thank you again for posting the videos. They're really helpful. I hate to call someone, and then wait for them to come out, and then pay them for the repair, when I can just do it myself.
All of your GE dishwasher videos have been extremely helpful. One question - by "thermister failure" do you mean the one in the flood switch? Also, where is the turbidity sensor located?
Thank you so much. I ran the diagnostic and was able to get the stinky water to drain. Everything shows as “ok” but the damn thing still won’t turn on. It blinks and give me an error “6” Which means the water isn’t hot enough but we just turned up the water heater. I’m puzzled!
I have a model gdf620hsj2ss and none of the lights on the front panel would light up. It's hardwired in, so I turned off the power at the breaker, pulled out the dishwasher and disconnected a small wire in the back and reconnected it. Turned the power back on and it's working! I turned off the breaker by itself without disconnecting any wires and it didn't work, oddly enough. Hope this helps 👍🏾
This was very helpful. The Heating Element test is showing that the heating coil isn't getting hot. I have already replaced the flood switch as recommended by many users and technicians. Can I assume that the heating element is dead? And needs replacing? Considering the Diagnostic Test #4 (4 LED blinks) isn't heating the coil at all? Thanks in advance.
Check the resistance (ohms) of the element with with one side disconnected. It should read very low, probably 100 ohms or less. If it reads infinite or very high resistance it is a bad heating element.
@@TwoKeysStudio I went ahead and replaced the heating element. Tested in diagnostic mode and no heat. :(. I had replaced the flood switch before I went down this path. I guess I have a large brick at this point...
On the last part after the tests of pump heater detergent door ect. Does it stay flashing or how do you get to that mode at the end on codes your reading after the testing?

Model #GDF510PSJOSS in the apartment I rent, the cycle light didn't go to Wash. If you have this problem, clean the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher. All of the parts should come off easily . Soak the filter unit, plastic screws, and plastic U shaped filtering piece that fits under the unit at the bottom. This should reactivate the cycle panel to engage & work. I don't know how to check the draining hose to clean it out of soap or food residue. If you clean under the rubber gaskets it should help to stop bad odors.

@@TwoKeysStudio Thanks. I will call a repair guy for this as I don't wish to wait for the part. Thanks for getting back to me. Your video is priceless. Happy 2021!
Update. Repair guy came in February. Did not put the DW through these paces. Simply turned it on and checked the temp of the water inside and said, "You have a Tankless Water Heater and these machines don't work with that system........blah, blah,.....get an extra heater system for under the sink.....blah, blah,...run it on Sani after turning on the hot faucet first......blah, blah, or buy a Bosch. That will be be $60." It's still not working. I'm going to put it through the paces today. What say you?
We attempted this and after reading “loading drain pump” it shuts off. No F Codes, just turns off after a couple clicks. Does this mean a failed drain pump? We recently replaced the drain pump and main board so at a loss of what to do now.
I have my loaded and everything all the buttons work and everything but when I push start it won’t working like I don’t hear anything flowing.? I have it 2hour delay so
Hi need help! My stainless dishwasher Model GDT655SSJ0SS quit. It gave a code that it was the main board. Bought replacement and installed it. Dishwasher ran one cycle and went dead again. No codes or anything now. Really need your help!
I pressed and held both the cycle select and start button for 5 seconds while the door was open. The lights began to flash. I immediately closed the door and the lights continued to flash. What does that mean?
I’m having a similar issue I think!? My dishwasher will be closed and not running. Then suddenly all the lights will turn on and it will make the sound like someone pushed a button. It does this multiple times a day! Any idea how to fix this?
How do you turn it off? It says autosense. I've been in my condo for three years and have never used it. I must have bumped something. I have pressed everything.... It comes on randomly. Driving me nuts.
So I went through these steps and all worked fine. When I run the dishwasher normally, it performs all actions with random stops and starts through, I can hear it clicking on the bottom right, trying to start, but nothing happens, and at certain times, it will stop the cycle with lights on, never to resume. It won’t shut off, but it gets stuck. AAny ideas?
Found your video after trying to troubleshoot my GDP610 model GE dishwasher. I have no power on mine. Other videos shows how to replace the UI Controller Board but some videos shows to replace the Main Board (behind the kick panel on the bottom of dishwasher). Is there a way to find out which Board is bad by doing these Service test?
With no power, you can't do these tests. I have heard that the door interlock can cause a no power issue on these. Those are cheap, I would try swapping the switch first or if you have a meter a simple ohms meter test can be used to verify if the switch is bad.
hi could you help me?? The lights on my GE dishwasher are not coming on and there is nothing coming on!? please tell me if there is a reset button please and thank you
That can be the interlock switch or, of course, the breaker. Assuming it isn't the breaker try opening and closing the door firmly several times to see it that helps. If it does, replace the interlock switch.
How long should the same dishwasher last. Ours is on 6 years and a few months. I just replaced the latch switch. The machine indicated open door. No fix I am not sure what to do next
@RErnie-gv1hv There's good news and not so good news. I found test instructions right where you said, behind the toe kick. Not so good, after pressing Stare and Select Cycle as directed, 5 or so seconds, all the lights came on. Then after 3 or 4 seconds all went off. Except for the Heavy & Sani lights. Each stayed on steady for several minutes before finally shutting off. So far we can't find anything explaining that occurrence. And if that weren't exciting enough, we can't find anything explaining what to look for when something is wrong, broken, etc.
I could have explained that a bit better in this video. When you press and hold Start and Cycle Start like I did in the beginning of the video you are in the error codes mode. If there are any codes they will flash upon entering this mode and then you can proceed into the test codes that I mentioned.
Thank you for the video! Didn't know it had a diagnostics mode. So mine periodically is not taking in water, but diagnostics mode doesn't show any faults. The water cycle didn't work though. The hose is not cloged, checked that. I took out the inlet valve, it's clean, it has resistance so not entirely fried, tried applying power to it with a battery and it clicks. I ordered a replacement anyway to see if that fixes it, next is the switch Flood Asm. If anyone has any idea why it might not be taking in water let me know :)
What if no lights come on on the top panel? I checked the motherboard at the bottom of the dishwasher and the LED LIGHT is solid green. So I don't think it is the mother board. I also replaced the door latch switch. Nothing. Any ideas?
I'm having the same issue. I discovered that if I disconnect the main power cable to the main circuit board and plug it back in the dishwasher returns to fully functional. Turning off the breaker for x amount of time and turning it back on does not seem to fix it which I'm confused by. This lasts for about 5 washes or so and then I have to repeat the cycle. I have not found anything that resolves this even replacing the main circuit board which cost ~$100. I'm absolutely perplexed and posting info on various forums has not helped. I have also reached out to the only appliance repairman in my area and he has no additional ideas so he won't even come and take a look at it. I have 'fixed' my dishwasher about 6 times now after the last few months by unplugging and plugging back in the main power cable to the circuit board. Spending money on a new dishwasher when this one 'works' is so wasteful. I wish I could figure out why I have to keep resetting it.
Hello I just worked on a GE dishwasher today with the same problem. The display would not light up and the control board light was a steady green. I disconnected all the connectors to the control board and put back together and then it ran fine. No error codes. I found this thread that mentions it may be the UI board, user interface. Check it out, hopefully it helps you www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/threads/gdt545psj2ss-ge-dishwasher-the-ui-panel-lights-goes-out.71883/
@@jamwatchman Thank you! After a lot of looking I ran across that same thread, I haven't been able to get my hands on the board yet though to replace. If that does fix it I'll be sure to share with others. The sad part is GE's own manual says to replace the main control board, nothing about the UI control board. Fingers crossed that it does fix it as throwing away a good 'working' dishwasher is just wasteful.
I’ve had the same issue with my dishwasher. I have replaced the power supply board and it still doesn’t seem to help. It worked fine for a few days then it just didn’t work again. I did unplug the power to the board and left it unplugged for a few days. Plug it back up and it came back alive again. I hate this brand… I even replaced the wiring in it going to the door switch. And buttons board. Still doing the same thing.
@@dericktrx7573 After a lot of wasted time, I threw it away and bought a dishwasher from Costco with a good warrantee. They even installed it for me. No problems since then. It was not a GE
I go thru all the cycle lights and nothing turns on. It blinks 1/2/3/4/5/6 times after pressing cycle and nothing will run. Every now and then the dishwasher turns on and then it won’t and it will just flash orange and green on the start button. I’m at a loss.
Any advice on where to find a replacement heating element for a GDF570SSF8SS? It says it's an NLA part online and I can't find one on eBay either... Is it time for a new dishwasher or are there equivalent heating elements from other models that would work?
I ran the rest and the heating element didn't get hot at all, maybe I need to continue with the video, I think I figured out the heating element wasn't working and then figured I'd gotten the answer. I had seen that the flood switch could be it. I'll check.
Question: All lights come up when I put in the test mode, but when I select the options by clicking the Select Cycle, nothing starts. I got a 815 code as soon as I put in test mode. Is that the door latch issue?
@@TwoKeysStudio I had to do some more digging and it turns out, it was the board control under the dishwasher. But your video helped a lot. Thanks again.
First, I wiped clean with vinegar: the door and cabinet. 3 beeps means door is open (machine won't start). Got it work (yeah!) by pressing the start button and then allowing door to slam. It worked.... Got it to work, so what I wrote, following, is no longer relevant........I have this exact dishwasher. I keep getting the 3 beeps of death (push start, 3 beeps, won't start). Can anyone tell me how to rectify this? Will pay if you can get unit to work. (I went through protocols in this video without success. I got the full flashing LEDs, but did not get the test mode lights: 1, 2, 3, etc., which would not help me anyway.) I need the 3 beeps to stop. Previously I had a new computer board installed to this machine, which got it to work. But same problem, now, and it hasn't even been a year. (Yes, I know this dishwasher is crap; it came with the house.)
@@TwoKeysStudio If the first test with the pump doesn't do anything then you need a new pump? If so, it that worth replacing or just buy a new dishwasher? This dishwasher is only 4 years old. Thanks for helping me out.
@@debhaas2573 most likely it is the pump, but it could be the board as well. I would probably go ahead and replace the pump, it is cheaper than a new dishwasher. Having said that, I replaced my GE at about 4 years old with a new Bosch.

Mine too..these appliances are garbage!
Once you put it in code cycle how do you get it out of code cycle
I pressed and held both the cycle select and start button for 5 seconds while the door was open. The lights began to flash. I immediately closed the door and the lights continued to flash. What does that mean?
I am having problems with my Start flashing and beeping. Can’t figure it out
Me too
Its probably the door latch switch. If the door is closed and the start button flashes and beeps the switch is probably your issue.
I’m having a similar issue I think!? My dishwasher will be closed and not running. Then suddenly all the lights will turn on and it will make the sound like someone pushed a button. It does this multiple times a day! Any idea how to fix this?
understood nothing. If I opened the door and the light blinks, what should I do? Can I repeat it again?
How do you turn it off? It says autosense. I've been in my condo for three years and have never used it. I must have bumped something. I have pressed everything.... It comes on randomly. Driving me nuts.
I follow your instructions and my washer only turns on green where it says light ... than all others are off .. ? Any Idea what it means ?
i was just given this dishwasher, does yours run for andeally long time? like hours?
Yes, for a full cycle it takes 2 1/2 hours. Most dishwashers take about that long to help save water (by soaking the dishes between cycles).
AAny ideas?
Did you ever get this figured out? Mine is doing the same
Did you ever figure this out? Mine is doing the same
Found your video after trying to troubleshoot my GDP610 model GE dishwasher.
Wait how do you get it to check error codes after in diagnosis mode?
How do you get it out of service mode
What does it mean if the dishwasher didn't do anything when selecting the different tests?
Maybe an interlock issue.
How long should the same dishwasher last. Ours is on 6 years and a few months. I just replaced the latch switch. The machine indicated open door. No fix I am not sure what to do next
I got rid of the GE after only three years, which, in my opinion, was way too early to have that many issues. Usually I get 10+ years out of them.
What dishwasher did you end up getting, and would you recommend it?
@RErnie-gv1hv
There's good news and not so good news.
How do you see the error codes? What do you press to get into that?
@Tom Jenkins That's one way. Replacing the water inlet valve fixed my issue though.
Mine has six blinks what is number six?
When I put it in test mode and hit start, I hear a clicking sound like a small relay or something. Then nothing
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Any idea why my “wash temp” button starts the washer and the actual “start” button does absolutely nothing?
Sorry, I do not. Perhaps a subscriber can assist with that.
Does this apply to our GE dishwasher Model GDR570SGF0WW?
Probably, but I am not familiar enough with that model to say for certain.
@@TwoKeysStudio Does that mean your video will or will not help us?
I do not know the answer to that question. If you have that model, try it and see.
Check it out, hopefully it helps you

I went through all the modes and nothing. There is standing water in the bottom.
I go thru all the cycle lights and nothing turns on. It blinks 1/2/3/4/5/6 times after pressing cycle and nothing will run. Every now and then the dishwasher turns on and then it won’t and it will just flash orange and green on the start button. I’m at a loss.
Did you ever solve this? ... am having the same issues
Any advice on where to find a replacement heating element for a GDF570SSF8SS? It says it's an NLA part online and I can't find one on eBay either... Is it time for a new dishwasher or are there equivalent heating elements from other models that would work?
Are you certain it is the heating element? It may be the flood switch.
th-cam.com/video/K5DenFR8Fn0/w-d-xo.html
I ran the rest and the heating element didn't get hot at all, maybe I need to continue with the video, I think I figured out the heating element wasn't working and then figured I'd gotten the answer. I had seen that the flood switch could be it. I'll check.
How can I get the left over water to drain
I scooped out what I could with a glass and used a towel for what was left.
Question: All lights come up when I put in the test mode, but when I select the options by clicking the Select Cycle, nothing starts. I got a 815 code as soon as I put in test mode. Is that the door latch issue?
Sounds like it.
@@TwoKeysStudio I had to do some more digging and it turns out, it was the board control under the dishwasher. But your video helped a lot. Thanks again.
I'm getting 815 code too but replaced the door latch last month. Could it be bad again? Or what else could it be?
@@kathyellingson4707 in my case, I had to replace the board control under the dishwasher, about $110 from Amazon
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
heres a stupid question. how do you turn it on? i tried pushing every button and it wont come on lol it just beeps.
That symptom is usually created by a bad interlock switch. You might try replacing it and see if that resolves it.
It sounds like the interlock switch is bad. You might try replacing it.
FYI the link to technical service guide leads to a malware site.
I have checked it and the site shows as no malware found and it is safe. Is it possible that the malware is on your device?
My ge doesn't have test mode? M/N #PDW7380N20SS
Anyone know how to "unlock" if you accidently push the lock feature? I have unplugged the dishwasher and that did not reset it. Thank you!
As I remember, to clear the lock you long press the Start button and that will clear it.
My dishwasher looks identical to the one in this video, but after I get all the LED's to light up and press select cycle for 5 seconds, nothing happens. I think mine must just be toast. Only had this one for a little over 2 years. What a POS.
Do we really need dishwaster anyways ??? hmmmmm... All the technology in the world and still crashes.
Very true.
